This is somewhat off-topic but I find it interesting... As we know, Amazon has a bad rep in some areas of the open source community, specifically for using Open Source programs, esp those under Permissive licenses, and "not giving their improvements back to the community". Lots of people are up in arms about that and complain that Amazon is a free-loader, acting in bad faith, abusing open source, etc etc. The interesting part is that so many of those who complain about Amazon doing so go out of their way to support LO's freedom to do the exact same thing. It kind of shows just how self serving their moral outrage is... I'm not saying LO must allow us to use contributions; I'm not saying that they are freeloaders; all I am saying is that if they were serious about "working together" that would be an easy way to prove it.

Specifically, yes, because I had only contacted German-language magazines. But I assume that this will not look different for magazines in others, especially since OpenOffice is traditionally more common in German-speaking countries than in non-German-speaking countries. OpenOffice.org, for example, had market shares of 12 (partly 15%) in Germany at its best times, confirmed by market research, this share is higher than any other known market share in other countries. (The question of market share was of course not my reason to ask only for German magazines, but only that I myself cannot write articles on magazine level in English). Happy birthday OpenOffice
Happy birthday OpenOffice, October 13th is the 20th anniversary of the founding of OpenOffice, with the release of the source code by SUN Microsystems. At archive.org you can still find a copy of the website of the former OpenOffice.org (as of 17.10.2000): https://web.archive.org/web/20001017210340/http://openoffice.org/ The ProOO-Box would like to congratulate: http://prooo-box.org/seiten/jubilaeum.html on this occasion we are putting a freshly updated ISO online for download: http://prooo-box.org/seiten/download.html On behalf of the ProOO-Box team best regards Jörg p.s. a deplorable detail: Despite my best efforts, I was not able to publish an article about the anniversary of OpenOffice in any well-known German IT magazine or to encourage the magazines to do so themselves. I consider our practically non-existent PR work to be the reason for this, especially since it means that we do not have reliable press contacts, as was once perfectly normal for OpenOffice.org and contributed to the overall success of the project. Unfortunately, this lack of PR work also deprives us of the opportunity to report actively and up-to-date about AOO and our project work. Michael's reports from FOSS fairs and the opinions and assumptions of AOO users there show me that we do too little for this. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

OpenOffice 4.1.2-RC2 available (and happy birthday!)
As a small gift for the 15 years of OpenOffice (OpenOffice was released as Open Source on 13 October 2000, as Louis reminded us during ApacheCon Budapest), we now have OpenOffice 4.1.2-RC2 available. OpenOffice 4.1.2-RC1 has been tested for more than a week without major bugs or regressions reported. Almost all relevant issues were tested and verified fixed, even though we still need help with some. Note that, since there is still some delay for building and uploading, RC2 is current as of revision 1707648 (last accepted commit, see https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/openoffice/tags/ for the SNAPSHOT change), so 4 days ago. A few reported bugs on RC1: - RC1 was missing Linux 64-bit DEB packages and had some incorrect scripts for source checksums; these are now fixed. - https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126305 additional patches were needed, these are in RC2 - Windows installation: a user reported "Installation aborted with the message that I lack access to registry". See http://s.apache.org/Z6v and https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126587 ; RC2 should not have any changes in this respect, but possibly Windows users can explain/check/guide. - https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=107619 is not completely solved, a fix came when RC2 was already being prepared and it is not included - Several release blockers were addressed (Bugzilla link below) RC2 can be downloaded from https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/ open "binaries", then the language code, then you will find installers. If you can't download it now, it means it is still synchronizing, try again in a few hours. For QA, the link to use for verifying "release blocker" bugfixes is this one (you will need a Bugzilla account to see it and to verify bugfixes): https://bz.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?cmdtype=dorem_id=170710=4.1.2_approved_and_fixed=run_id=7 Only the issues marked as RESOLVED FIXED are still to be checked. If you verify that everything works as expected, please mark the issue as VERIFIED FIXED (or post a comment, specifying your Operating System and language). It is fine and useful to have two independent verifications of a bug, especially on two different operating systems. Remember: testing is important since 4.1.2-RC2 can be a release we actually vote upon. We are seeing a few release blocker requests coming in but I'll wait that everything is properly tested before seeing whether this deserves a RC3. So if you didn't test RC1, please test RC2; you can actually use it for day-to-day tasks too for a few days, for more realistic testing. Replies to the QA list only, if possible, thanks. Thank you for the year 2013 at Apache, and a happy 2014
Hi all I like to say thank you for the Year 2013 at Apache. At my home Project Apache OpenOffice we released a major version, with important improvements. It was nice to work with you guys, even the work is not allways easy. For OpenOffice I like to see a better development of the commercial ecosystem. But we have allready proved that we can serve the need of this big project, and we gain back the trust of the public. This was only possible with true collaboration. I like to say thank you for this. I started at the incubator in the late 2013. two and a half years ago, I was myself fresh to Apache. I have to learn to work with the Apache Way. As you all know, the adaption to Apache was not easy for OpenOffice. OpenOffice needet the coaching from the Incubator. This year I felt ready to give back my experiance to new Apache Projects. Sometimes it goes faster then expected and in November I was voted into the IPMC. I like to thank you all for the trust. Over five year I searched for a good software solution for communication whithin NGO. Then I found Apache Wave. This Software has so much potential. I realy hope we can bring this software forward next year. The activity in the December was realy promising. Npanday will not have a easy future. I singed up as Mentor, because there is some willingness to continue the project. But we all know, we need much more fire in the project next year. The beginning will not be easy, but if we work togeter in the new year, we can build a community. We realy need a release and get new committer on board. But I'm sure we can do it!!! Thanks the whole ASF for the good collaboration in the 2013. I looking forward, to see some of you at events like ApacheCon or FOSDEM Happy New Year Raphael - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

Re: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Thank You! There was a problem that in code from Hanya this line create a null object in linux (with LibreOffice): oSounMgr = CreateUnoService(com.sun.star.media.Manager_GStreamer) For oPlayer1 I have control of stopping but for timidity I dont know how to control command line program after start. Killall is needed for stopping sound (from pus button on right side of card). I have only LibreOffice in my Mint system, AOO is on WinVista system (on same hard ware). First my idea was to create some midi controlled animation (for all kind of documents) but it was too difficult to find interface which can read a MIDI note from the media player to a animation macro. Otherwise it seems to be system depended how long it take for first sound is in the air. So there is timing problem without such an interface. So there is just merely random moves of drawing objects and non syncron sounds. Greedings Risto imacat [ima...@mail.imacat.idv.tw] kirjoitti: That is cool! The KILLALL is bad, but if you do not log in as root onto your desktop, or run timidity as yourself, then it is fine. It actually does nothing for me, since on my Debian timidity is run as the user timidity, not me. I still wonder why you need to kill timidity, since it still works if KILLALL fails, as in my case.
