Funny fact: I have two machines with Windows 11 (22H2 and 23H2 Insider Preview) and both do not have the option for "Suggested Actions". I only have "Clipboard History" and see no problems with AOO 4.1.15, when enabled. Re: Fwd: Problem with Open Office before and after installing new update
I have made some thought on file security. I think that the backup strategy is not good at all. I rather propose to copy the original to a temp folder. Then we work on the file and at save time we save first the temp file and then copy it back. Before we copy back we check the health of the copy making sure it's in good state. With this strategy we should always have a working copy available. Haven't check the necessary changes yet. It is just an idea. Am 23. The # issue seems caused usually by overhasty close down of the computer, after space has been allocated in the zip archive but before the data has been written to that space, which on inspection is usually 00 (zeroes). The spellchecker problem seems highly user related. In almost all cases it is cured by deletion or renaming of the OO user profile. Why it sometimes occurs after installation or upgrade of OO I do not know - I would guess that this may be caused by "finger trouble" - the user using some non-standard method of installation. Instances of faulty spellchecking on a previously good installation seem to arise from partial corruption of registrymodiifications.xcu, which may be attributed to over hasty close down of the computer before the software/hardware write buffers have flushed to disk (remember that modern hard disk drives also have internal data buffering). Most of these instances of file corruption/faulty spellcheck occur on Windows. Long time computer users, who honour the correct power off procedures, do not seem to have these problems. A major requirement is that the original file should be backed up at the start of an editing session, so that in the event of a file corruption, only the current edit changes are lost. A problem with Open Office 4.0.1
Hello, I have been using Open Office since about 12/13, and have been very pleased with it. Today I started to edit a spread sheet document, and after saving an extensive edit, I could not open it again. For some reason it is now saved as an Excel document, and Open Office will not open it. I thought that I might resolve this by updating the software, and tried to update the program with open office 4.1.2, but am not being successful. When I get to the installation I get a message that says, "Please exit OpenOffice 4.1.2 and the OpenOffice 4.1.2 Quickstarter before you continue" As far as I know, I am not using Quickstarter, and I really don't know what to do to open the spreadsheet I was working on or to update the OpenOffice from 4.0.1 to 4.1.2. I hope you can help me get going again. Thanks, Jim Wilkerson

RE: Problem with open office data
Your attached file consists of 16,346 nul (00) bytes. There is no recoverable data in it. It is not a valid ODF Text (OpenOffice Writer) document. It was apparently saved in a corrupted form. This can happen when OpenOffice is closed improperly or there was a problem with interruption of file saving. Was there a situation that had you force quitting from OpenOffice? You will need to go back to a backup copy that you had saved before. You *might* be able to find an AutoRecovery version of the file that was the one being worked from. To minimize this happening in the future, review the OpenOffice Tools | Options | Load/Save | General options for creating backup copies and also saving AutoRecovery information. - Dennis From: Florian Schwarzenbacher [mailto:f.schwarzenbac...@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, January 9, 2015 07:29 To: dev@openoffice.apache.org Subject: Problem with open office data Importance: High Dear open-office Team, unfortunately a data got damaged (don´t know how) which is very important for me! do you know, what the matter is?
