Re: [dev] I want to contribute

2006-04-18 Thread Laurent Godard

Hi

thanks for your proposal

you can have a first look at ooo internals through the starter guide
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page

moreover, contributing can be done through Extensions, requiring less
knowledge about OOo internals and a good way to start with the API

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Extensions

as alreadysuggested, grab an enhancement from IZ and start to talk
about it on the dedicated project list
(eg :
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/buglist.cgi?issue_type=ENHANCEMENT&issue_status=NEW&issue_status=STARTED&issue_status=REOPENED&email1=&emailtype1=exact&emailassigned_to1=1&email2=&emailtype2=exact&emailreporter2=1&issueidtype=include&issue_id=&changedin=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&short_desc=&short_desc_type=substring&long_desc=&long_desc_type=substring&issue_file_loc=&issue_file_loc_type=substring&status_whiteboard=&status_whiteboard_type=substring&keywords=&keywords_type=anytokens&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&Submit+query=Submit+query
)

Feel free to ask for more questions

[dev] OOo and problem with UIDs...

2006-04-18 Thread marekjs
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello.
I've very weird problem:
Sometimes, my OOo locks. When I try to start soffice, swriter I
can't: some seconds mixing my HDD and silence.
Well. I change the user id (UID) to different - it's start normally.
But, when I try the previous UID - I can't start OOo again.
I've locked 2 UIDs from OOo. It's good to have lot of UIDs into the
linux, but it isn't the good way to change every time UIDs to start OOo.

Any suggestion?

[dev] live broadcast from FISL

2006-04-18 Thread Jacqueline McNally

From Sulamita Garcia, LinuxChix Brasil (www.linuxchix.org.br).
Forwarded from LinuxChix Announce list.

There are other FISL and OSS topics at http://infomediatv.terra.com.br
but I'm not sure if they all have translation into other languages.

Regards
Jacqueline

Hi

I would like to announce the Panel "Howto encourage women to CONTRIBUTE in
FOSS world", to be broadcast in live from
http://infomediatv.terra.com.br/fisl/ website. The session will happens
next 20th, at 19hs GMT-3. We made arrangements to have english translation
for the internet, and would be very nice to have your thoughts and
opinions. Here's the abstract:

There is a lot of discussion about the women involvement in IT and in FOSS
community. Actual articles and studies show new facts about this, as the
research telling about the time that computer science raise the number of
students and created this huge gap, and the consequences of it. But in
some places, as India, Malaysia and (in a minor scale) Brasil, there is
more equality in this. Brasil has become some kind of reference of women
involved in FOSS. We want to transform this involvement in actual code,
even with all situation that cause few brazilian developers and
contributors, men or women: the language barrier, lack of quality
education and access to technology, and focus in politics or philosophy
instead training and qualification. Despite of that, we believe we can
contribute more. How can we encourage more women to contribute in FOSS
world? We going to talk about actions, attitude, initiatives and what had
transformed lurkers in involvers, and how to transform involvers in
developers and contributors.

I would suggest that you read through the bug tracker and fix some bugs.
I would say that is probably the best way to learn about the code base.
The hunting through the source code to track down the bugs should give
you are really good understanding of the source code, and benefit the
community at the same time. These are also tasks that are achievable in
the time scales you have.

For example, when one compares two documents, all the changes in the
text are highlighted, except text inside tables. It is probably there by
design at the moment, but it is a little inconsistent. Having OO
highlight changes in the contents of tables would be a welcome addition.

Re: [dev] scripted multiplatform .doc to .html conversion

2006-04-18 Thread Kirk Israel
This project got backburnered but is now coming up again, the concept of
integrating OOo's doc to HTML conversion as seamlessly as possible into an
exisint J2EE application.

My understanding is that OOo must be present (copied to, but not necceaarily
installed, baed on Mathias' previous comments. At that point, it should be
fairly easy to go through with the UNO libraries...is that about the size of
it? Am I missing anything, or are there any resources that might make this
easier?

Thanks,
Kirk

[dev] Implementing Document Restrictions in Star Office and Open Office

2006-04-18 Thread Valden Longhurst
After talking with Malte Timmermann from Sun, he mentioned I might want
to bring my ideas to this group. Is this the correct group for this idea?

Attached is a PDF on how we can use both symmetric and asymmetric
encryption--WITHOUT using a Rights Management or Licensing server to
enforce business-justified document restrictions. My possible solution
involves what is called the "digital envelope" or "cryptolope."

Re: [dev] How can I load a JavaScript library in a JavaScript Macro enviroment?

Hi Luiz,

sorry for the late answer but i was "out of scope" for some weeks.
OOo of course supports Python, if you prefer Python you can use it directly.

Luiz Siqueira wrote:

I really not a JavaScript Developer, I'm looking for a way to make Macros more

With JavaScript I can use OO techniques and with StarBasic this is more
difficult (not impossible).
I'm a Python developer, but OOo don't have a Python environment and is
difficult to find a bug, that is way I'm trying the JavaScript. My idea is
produce a professional product using OOo, some parts of the system I will make
with Java and another with Macros.
If you have some idea please share with me.

Tanks for your time.

Maybe it helps to take a look to http://www.beanshell.org/ and/or

Sorry that i can't help further

I need use functions in another (js/Macro) file, how can I do that?

I only know how to do that in StarBasic, but the same function don't work with JavaScript and I can't find documentation about that.

  Thanks about some help.

one possible way is to insert a LRM (Insert - Formatting Mark -
Left-to-Right-Mark), type "(x+(z-y))" and finally insert another LRM.
This lets the Unicode Bidi Algorithm treat the opening and closing
paranthesis as Left-to-Right characters.

Hope this helps,

[dev] Right to left inserting of special characters is confusing

2006-04-18 Thread Habib Seifzadeh
Hi developers,
I have a problem with right to left mode when
inserting parenthesis. I reported an issue and put my
problem into Writer forum, but didn't get any reply.
The URL of my question in forum is:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=34970
and my issue number is : 61016
So, I ask my question from you in another way: if I'm
in right to left mode, how can I type "(x+(z-y))" ???
The problem is the beginning and ending parenthesis
are typed reverse but middle parenthesis are typed
correct.
By the way, I'm Java developer, and also know C, If I
know components of right to left writing, may be I can
cusomize it for myself,
Please help me,
Habib

The position of the cell that's being calculated isn't available to an
add-in function, sorry. You'll have to add a parameter to the function.

What kind of callback are you referring to?
