Release Step 011 Succeeded

2019-03-04 Thread Apache Royale CI Server
1. Run ant -f releasesteps.xml Release_Step_011 -Drelease.version=0.9.6
This will download the artifacts then unzip and compile the source artifact.
2. Validate that the compiled artifacts match the downloaded artifacts.
3. If they do, then run ant -f releasesteps.xml Release_Step_011_Sign
-Drelease.version=0.9.6
This will PGP sign the source ZIP and compiled JARs
4. Then run ant -f releasesteps.xml Release_Step_011_Upload
-Drelease.version=0.9.6
This will upload the signed artifacts to Maven Release Staging. Verify that
the compiler and typedefs artifacts are there along with the asjs artifacts,
then hit the close to close the staging repo.

Need to see the console output...

On 3/4/19, 1:50 AM, "Harbs" wrote:

I’m trying to build Royale on a Windows machine and I’m getting some odd
errors.

The error happens in ASDateTests and I’m getting “unexpected compilation
problems” as well as day and dayUTF being read-only.

I’ve tried cleaning things out including deleting the complete contents of
the repos. I’ve tried ignoring the ASDateTests which just causes an error
somewhere else.

I’m kind of stumped. Anyone have ideas?

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi Josh,

thanks for pointing about how to do answers. As I signed in SO site, I saw
some indications about be very explicit and avoid questions that could be
"interpreted", So questions like you proposed seems perfect.

About availability for all people here: IMHO we should all try to setup and
account there and help as we can. That doesn't mean necessarily to move
from this list to SO. Just to be aware and in the same way we help here,
try to help there. And if any of you here spend 20' here spend only that
time (and only that) here or there. I think we all here want Royale to
succeed. I think this is a key point since people is in SO, and I'm sure
this is an opportunity to make Apache Royale better known to people that in
other circumstances could never know about it.

As all vote for "apacheroyale", it's ok for me too.

Thanks! :)

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Alex Harui
Those who want to help create a presence for Royale on SO are certainly welcome
and have my thanks for doing so.

I think an "apacheroyale" tag is best.

I would not recommend making SO our main user support channel at this time.
Some ASF projects do, but we already have users@ and also I think myself and
others are unable to help on SO. I've had trouble getting established on SO in
the past. In fact, I just tried logging in there again and I think they erased
my account so I had to sign up again.

I'll keep trying if I have a few moments here and there, but for now I'll
mainly help on the mailing lists.

But all of this remains in the success of Royale. Since if we don't attract
talent to make lots of this happen, maybe will not be better than other
options, and even more risky.

Making Royale moving forward and evolving with all the things we all now is
very difficult. We need people interested in make this happen and investing
time in tasks that are not easy to get.

Yep, getting more folks to contribute code is key. One thing I wish we could
get more folks to realize is that the Apache model has a very low bar for
contribution. If you want to write a bead that tweaks one small thing, we'll
accept it. Some of the other more corporate-driven projects may not. That's
one of the reasons for beads. It allows small contributions that should have
little impact on the rest of the framework.

My 2 cents,

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Josh Tynjala
Recently, I edited an answer to an old question about AS3 IDEs recently (to add
VSCode and Moonshine), and the original question (which had been up for years)
was almost instantly closed by moderators. StackOverflow has become very strict
about open-ended questions that are more appropriate to discussion forums.
Choose your questions wisely.

More specific questions that can be solved with a small code example are
probably the best choice.

Look for issues that come up frequently. For instance, there are often problems
if someone forgets to add a data binding bead to a component. In the question,
you'll want a component that is broken because it's missing the bead. In the
answer, show them which bead to add and where it should be added.

In fact, more questions involving beads are probably great candidates!

Question: How do I use some feature in component X.
Answer: This feature isn't enabled by default, but you can add Y bead to the
component.

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Andrew Wetmore
"apacheroyale" is fine with me.

SO's tutorial suggests that open-ended discussion-type questions fare worse
on the site than specific, solution-focused questions. I wonder if it would
be considered spam to "recreate" some of the conversations on tricky
Flex-to-Royale issues that we have already talked through in this channel.
Feels a bit like reality-show tv to me... An alternative would be to post
some of the current, not-yet-resolved questions. We might even attract
interesting response from outside the existing Royale community.

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Andrew Wetmore
Carlos and I were pondering possible tags for such an adventure. Options
seem to include "apacheroyale", "apache-royale", or just plain "royale". It
is telling that none of these tags currently exist.

I am happy to lob softball questions to get conversations started, maybe:

- What's the best migration path away from Flash for an enterprise-level
Flex app?
- What are the options for IDEs for developing in JS? [I note that
"moonshine" is not a recognized tag on SO at the moment]
- How can I reuse my AS3 and MXML code if Flash is not an option?
Other leading questions?

I am happy to be the naive question-asker, but of course getting juice into
these conversations (and maybe drawing conversation-browsers toward Royale)
depends on those who have already found Royale providing answers.

Re: Failing build on Windows

2019-03-04 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi Harbs,

I just rebuild all repos and build SDK with ANT about 1 hour ago with no
problem. I'm on Mac and in Spain.
Latest time I had problems with dates and test was when changed the hour.
Yishay had the same problem at that time.
Maybe you're in some global zone that has some hour change this days?

Re: Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi,

I as you used Stackoverflow just for consulting. Just create my account
now, so I'm learning too.

What does mean for Apache Royale? Nowadays, a way to measure tech impact
and how others could choose to go with Royale is see how easy is to find
answers to questions. So you know, we want to know how something is done
and people instead to go to normal docs, he google it, and normally for
development problems stack overflow use to have responses.

So, how we could "start"? I think we'll need to enter some common questions
and maybe respond ourselves ? I really don't know, but there should be some
way to start and have a "apacheroyale" tag for all the question related to
us.

For example, I think Andrew could be a good active to starting this if he
thing is interesting, both investigating the way to do it and starting some
questions so we can answer and easing the rest of us entering SO world..

Failing build on Windows

2019-03-04 Thread Harbs
I’m trying to build Royale on a Windows machine and I’m getting some odd errors.

The error happens in ASDateTests and I’m getting “unexpected compilation
problems” as well as day and dayUTF being read-only.

I’ve tried cleaning things out including deleting the complete contents of the
repos. I’ve tried ignoring the ASDateTests which just causes an error somewhere
else.

I’m kind of stumped. Anyone have ideas?

Same here with time for answering. By presence - what do you mean ? I'm
rather read-only user for Stackoverflow - How does presence of Royale can
be printed there ?

Apache Royale on Stackoverflow

2019-03-04 Thread Carlos Rovira
Hi,

I think one of our pending subjects is to be present on Stackoverflow.
Starting to have questions and answers there and increasing presence over
time should be a key goal for us.
What do you think?

Thanks

I think that's the great point. You can go with Royale, React, Angula,
Vue,... and all options has its pros and cons
so there's no perfect solution. React has many people behind, Facebook,
docs, you can find people that knows all libs that you need to work with
but has many other problems.

Royale seems to me more like an option for the future, as a technology and
a foundation that you could use for years and years, so you can target JS
now, but WEBASM in the future.

But when that happen is really amazing. If I think in how far we reach
since end of 2017 to these days, I think all is possible. Think all the
work done through this pass year... think how far we could go
in one more year I think possibilities are endless. We just need people
coming and joining, and Apache Royale could be an amazing tech to use.

One latest thought. For me React is a cool tech, but I think is just a
library and some other companion libs and is only in the JS realm. So for
me it seems the scope of React is almost done, and what about 5 years in
the future?
Will be React still be the king? And people that are investing now in
React? Should they migrate to the new trend (maybe Webasm?) when world says
that's the new tech to go?

I expect Royale would allow us to add other target, that we'll be difficult
and time consuming, but its all about Royale, and we must to see how to
adapt libs (Jewel,...) to output that new targets, and then adapt our apps
to target that new targets too. But other folks using JS libs...will need
to rewrite *all* from scratch...again...

In the other hand, going with those JS libs for a new app, is the most easy
and less risk solution today without no doubt.
