Re: A Problem Regarding GNOME Software Maintenance

2016-05-09 Thread Michael Catanzaro
Hey Richard,

It looks like this one is definitely not related to MATE as it
reportedly occurs in GNOME. I can't imagine gnome-software is the right
place for the bug to live, though. Could you try guessing a component
to move the issue to? udev, kernel, or fwupd, perhaps?

RE: A Problem Regarding GNOME Software Maintenance

2016-05-09 Thread M . Hanny Sabbagh
Well I have no problem with that at all, but at least you could just leave a
comment about that it's on low propriety right now or maybe you are busy with
something else, or that I should debug it myself instead of maybe waiting it to
get fixed, that's what it's all about.

Thanks.

Plus, I've been on annual PTO for the last 10 days. Its fair to say I basically
ignore MATE bugs (typically the bugs were fixed upstream in the last two years,
or the obsolete framework parts contribute to the misbehavior...) so unless
there's a stacktrace that looks interesting or a lot of dupes it's going to be
at the bottom of my to-do. If I can't reproduce the crash it's up to the
reporter to debug things. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Although it can be painful for you, there is pretty high chance that it is not
priority for developer. Especially if it

cannot be reproduced on his own hardware.

Being pushy to maintainer is very often contra-productive.

You still have lots of options:

1) Stop using Gnome Software (There is Apper, DNF...).

2) Try to reproduce it on other hardware. Ideally in VM, which you can pack and
send to developer.

3) Provide the patch.

4) Pay somebody to find reproducer and/or fix it.

I use a lot of SW which has lots of bugs and yes, some of them were reason why
I started using some other alternatives.

comps and spin-kickstarts migration this friday (2016-05-13)

2016-05-09 Thread Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.

This friday (2016-05-13) at 16UTC we will be migrating:

https://fedorahosted.org/comps/
https://fedorahosted.org/spin-kickstarts/

to

https://pagure.io/fedora-comps/
https://pagure.io/fedora-kickstarts/

With this migration we will be changing the workflow for
changes to these repositories from a simple commit model
to a pull request model. This means in order to make some
change you should submit a pull request, which will be reviewed
by at least one other person and then pushed live into the
repo. Initially commit on these new repos will be set to
the pagure releng group, but more people will be added as needed.

This model will allow us to run CI tests on Pull Requests and
confirm that they are not going to cause syntax errors
or other simple breakage. Additionally, this will allow us
to properly handle changes to these repos during milestone
Freezes (getting approval for a freeze break before pushing
changes, etc).

With the migration of the fedora-kickstarts project we will
also be trying to identify owner(s) for each kickstart file.
This will allow us to properly assign issues to the
folks that can address them.

Thanks,

kevin

I'd be happy to go through these for you Jerry.

In return could you please take a gander at the letsencrypt->certbot
re-review I submitted today.

Upstream plans their public rename towards the end of the week so it'd be
good to have our rename in the testing repos by then.

Cheers

Creating updates for Fedora 24

2016-05-09 Thread Florian Weimer
I'd like to push a glibc update to Fedora 24. It does not matter if it
goes into the release, it is just a collection of minor security fixes
and corrections to user-reported bugs. We are currently preparing an
update for Fedora 23 with similar content, and we want to avoid that an
update to Fedora 24 introduces regressions.

Is it safe to create the update in Bodhi, request a push to stable, and
release engineering will pick it up as they see fit?

Thanks,
Florian

Is there any interest in supporting SILC? It's an old encryption chat
protcol that I never used or never heard of someone using.

Do the pidgin maintainers want to take the package on, or recompile
pidgin without silc support so we can get pidgin of the death list?

I've disabled silc support.

Awesome, thanks!

Hi,

It seems that this boost build:
* Tue May 03 2016 Jonathan Wakely  - 1.60.0-6
- Rebuilt for GCC 6.1 (#1331983)

  broke ”rbd” from ceph-common-10.2.0-2.fc25.x86_64:

$ /usr/bin/rbd
/usr/bin/rbd: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/rbd: undefined symbol:
_ZNK5boost16re_detail_10600031cpp_regex_traits_implementationIcE17transform_primaryEPKcS4_

Downgrading Boost packages to 1.60.0-5 fixes it.

Actually this was caused by a bug in gcc that got fixed between
6.0.0 snapshots and 6.1.1 release, but the fix broke linking against
boost for anything compiled with gcc-6.1.1 until boost was rebuilt
with the new gcc. Please rebuild ceph with the new gcc and this
should go away.

Indeed.

Strictly speaking the GCC bug fix did result in an ABI change for
Boost, but it went from an incorrect ABI to a correct one.

Unfortunately everything built against Boost 1.60 using GCC 6.0.0 also
uses the incorrect ABI, and so depends on symbols which were part of
Boost when it was built with gcc-6.0.0, but which are no longer
present in the latest Boost packages built with gcc-6.1.1.

I'm making a list of all affected packages and will ensure they are
rebuilt with gcc-6.1.1.
