Yes, and I already have a reviewed package - spiped,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2265862 - and AFAIU the next
step should be creating a dist-git repository, hence the packager group
application :)

Thank you! From what I've seen in the mailing lists in the past several
years when I've been mostly lurking, it is mostly a nice place :)

Right... good catch. Of course, the FreeBSD webserver had an automatic
redirect, but it was kind of high time I moved that over to my own
website. Thanks!

G'luck,
Peter

question about packaging, I'm not a sponsor, but I can do a review of

Great. Then I guess I don't have to consider a "review swap" anymore as
mentioned at

No rush though. I might get this aw-server-rust concurrently on my COPR

leisurely fashion.

No problem and thanks. The process was a little bit bumpy (fedpkg not
detecting me correctly) at the last straight but somehow it went
forward.

No, it's waiting for *you* to actually import the package. :)
Just getting the package review ticket approved does nothing on its own.

Dear Fedora Developers,

Thanks for your work in developing and maintaining such a useful Linux
distribution!

I'm relatively new to open source development and am trying to make my
first

contributions. Basically, I'm hoping to package some dependencies
for the `nix and `guix package managers in fedora.

To give a bit of backstory, in the past both package managers have
depended on
nscd[1], which has been recently removed from glibc. Since it had been
marked for
deprecation in glibc, distributions have been removing their reliance on
it's

functionality [2].

There has been some discussion on the guix mailing list about possible
replacements for nscd. A popular suggestion is to transition to nsncd,
a program written in rust that provides similar functionality. Following
this
dicussion I volunteered to package nsncd for fedora. I've started the
process by

packaging some upstream dependencies.

This is my first attempt at contributing packages to fedora (or any
distro for
that matter!). Fabio Valentini has been very helpful in providing some
guidance

and reviewing my initial bug report[3].

I'm a little bit unsure of the next steps are for having the package
accepted.

I would welcome any further advice or guidance that you could provide.

With kind regards,
Adam

Welcome Adam! We are glad you are here. I look forward to seeing your

Hi Neftalí,

welcome!

I tried to follow the links, but they either return 404 or lead to a
page index where the subfolders return 403 (permission denied).
Also, it's not great to use a link obfuscator/tracker. Please just
show the real links to the destination pages. It's also easier to
spot typos in such links ;)

Maintaining packages is a little more involved than just being able to
build them, but I'm sure you'll get there. See:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Package_maintainer_responsibilities/

Since you posted this introduction, I assume you've reached
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/#introduce_yourself

If you want to maintain sagemath, which has been retired, you need to
prepare an unretirement review:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Package_Retirement_Process/#claiming

And you need to get sponsored:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/#_understand_the_sponsorship_model

We have quite a few people interested in scientific software at Fedora:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:SciTech_SIG and man other SIGs
at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Fedora_special-interest_groups

Feel free to reach out for help.

Nice! I also started with Slackware around that time.

I really hope that was a typo and you meant 38.

I have been working on PRs without being a maintainer, I just can't upload

everytime I needed someone else did it for me.

To delete your fork, go to the Settings tab and click on delete project.

That sounds great, welcome to Fedora! On bit of advice from me would
be to pick packages that you actually use or depend on instead of just
any random orphaned package.

Welcome!

I hope we can bring stgit back (narrator: it was rewritten in Rust and
the version that was in Fedora prior to retirement was an old one
pre-Rust-rewrite).
Let me know once you have any package review requests. I can do some
reviews, and assuming everything goes well, I can handle the packager
group sponsorship as well :)

Dale, for now you could start with submitting PRs [1]. I will review

Hi

I'd like to mentor Hussein (FAS: blinxen) in learning to become a
packager. He is a work colleague of mine. In particular, he's helping me
getting libimagequant updated, which some time ago was ported to rust.
As such, I'd like to add him as a co-maintainer of libimagequant and
help him getting the new dependencies reviewed. Is anyone willing to
sponsor Hussein?

Thanks

Cool! Welcome! What kind of things are you interested in? If you'd like to
exercise your sysadmin skills, Fedora Infrastructure
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/infra/ is probably the place. Or, if
you're more interested in something else... there's a lot!

It's in the "Scratch Builds" section of this document (they're quickly
piling up, I know…):

Essentially, you do a scratch build of your package in Rawhide and if
it is successful, you post the link to your review request.

Hello Sébastien, and welcome to Fedora!
If you can point to some particular problems in the join documentation,

I would like to fix any issues there,

Even a general perception of the current docs is welcome,

I already create a pull request that adds Koji scratch builds to the GNU

Welcome Pavel!

numpy has just been adopted by Jonathan, who already mentioned that
co-maintainers are welcome. Since you are already in the packagers
group, you can ask him to make you a co-maintainer.

Drop him a line: numpy-maintain...@fedoraproject.org

Disregard that. I'm in dire need of the weekend. It was python-pandas
that was adopted by Jonathan.

Welcome, nonetheless. I'm sure your skills will be helpful.

Just noticed you posted an SRPM and a SPEC file in bugzilla.

One thing, though, the SRPM doesn't build because the SPEC file is different. I
had to:

spectool -Rag SPEC/atomes-fedora.spec
rpmbuild -bs SPEC/atomes-fedora.spec
mock --rebuild SRPMS/atomes-1.1.5-1.src.rpm

... in order for it to successfully build.

You should update the SRPM in github. ;D
