With the chosen font installed ("Droid Sans", Apache 2.0 licence) the text balances well (or at least better than with the font my system was substituting) with the graphic in both weight and spacing. I think the capitalised D works well enough too. I have a personal dislike of narrow D glyphs, so I'd like to move the swoosh a small distance from the spire to add a horizontal hint to the outline. I think the text could be closer to the glyph, and higher, such that the D is in about the 2-o'clock position on the swoosh, which I think would reflect the Dlang logo more strongly.
Re: "Programming in D" ebook is available for purchase
The book was delivered today! The size is similar to the C++ Primer. But I don't like the quality of the cover. Looks like they have used a blunt blade to cut it and there are damages at the adges.

Although I have some reservations against the png font, it is way better and visually pleasing than the svg serif font (or at least the one I see). smime.p7s Description: Elektronicky podpis S/MIME

Looks like they have used a blunt blade to cut it and there are damages at the adges. That's not good. :( I have a few copies here with me, which were shipped from Ontario, California. They have pristine covers. However, of the fifty copies that I've personally seen so far, one was trimmed unacceptable crooked. (I don't know where that one was printed.) Print-on-demand books are non-returnable. However, if the product is defective I would hope that Amazon will replace it. If not, I'll give a more recent printing to you in Berlin at DConf 2016. ;) Ali

I created https://github.com/D-Programming-Language/dconf.org/pull/94 and also preemptively uploaded the logo to http://dconf.org/2016/index.html. Had to adjust svg dimensions to 200x110. Please help improve the size and placement of the logo. Thanks, Andrei Damnit, 3 is nice but its only a temporary thing. 2 has potential to be an official D logo.

Like so? https://gist.github.com/anonymous/e33f3354ff534fe7d99d I think a wider stylized D works well. I'm not a fan of moving the text closer and up, though. So I'd prefer this: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/ba5018d0091744e00f8b If I didn't quite capture what you had in mind, the SVG is handwritten and rather simple, maybe try tinkering with it yourself.
