I like most have had the trouble with the non sleeping Ts101. However Following the suggestion from simonjedrake to change the power off screen saver to None, it still would not sleep even after a re-booting the Ts101? [slim] Re: Is this normal??
@Mark You're right. One of life's mysteries. Nah this is pure science.. :) The question is what scentific ground this behaviour is based on. Maybe Shawn can share some thoughts on this , regarding how the SB uses the signal received on its antennas and how it prioritizes its results.. No but I do accept donations. ;-) Wait in line pal I'm looking for sponsors too ;) 'Course the practical question would be, how does one of those super-duper high-gain 3rd party antennas work on the SB1/SB2? They work wonders on routers, much better than increasing transmit strength by all accounts, so they should work on the SB1/SB2. I'm sure they will and you wouldn't even need to install them on the SB, just on AP/router would be sufficient.. But: 1) I dont want to spend the $$ 2) dont want an 18dBi emitting possible harmful waves through my tiny head 24/7 ,since the couch where I'm sitting most of the time is directly in the line of path between the SB and the AP..I prefer to use less aggressive ways if possible 3) dont want to make my office room (where the PC and AP currently reside) even more ugly than it is now by installing a high gain yagi :) @Jim Not sure if this antennae fits this description, but I use two SMC omni's..one at the router and the other at the SB2. They didn't cost much. The separation is 1 floor plus several walls on opposite sides of the house. I average 85-90%. I tried disconnecting the SB antennae and it dropped to 45-50%. I think this is about what I saw when I used the original antennae. Hm, an 85-90 seems pretty impressive to me considering the location you mention. Are we talking about brick walls in between or just wood separation (sorry dont know the exact word) Could you plz tell me the model numbers of these SMCs antennas? Cost? Are you talking about simple, small omni antennas similar to the one the SB and most APs are equipped with? I currently use just 2 self made antenna dishes on the 2 antennas of my AP and that's it. Has helped really good since before that I could not use the SB where I wanted without stuttering and loss of connection to the SS. I now have a 35% with 4 rooms in between (brick walls and a brick bathroom with tiles all over)...although there is also a corridor between the 2 endpoints which sure helps a lot (although its NOT line of sight) Eventually I believe, figuring out how the SB implements the wireless section (2 antennas..diversity antennas maybe..prioritization..different cable quality between internal antenna and external antenna?..and so on..) , I'mpretty confident that one could squeeze the squeezebox to get more wireless juice.. :) Also what abt tuning the wireless card inside to transmit more dBi like they do for some Linksys APs? Can this be done programming-wise? [slim] Re: Wireless won't connect ethernet works
When you say that your wireless won't connect, can the SB see the network and just fails to connect, or does it not see the network at all ? I'm guessing the latter from your post ? If the former, is there any hide SSID option on the router which you can switch off ? If the latter, is there any possiblity of an IP conflict, i.e. for some reason, the SB is trying to claim the same IP as your laptop and can't connect because the laptop already has it. Are you using static IPs or DCHP ? If the router thinks that the laptop has a certain IP address allocated and the SB tries to connect using the same IP, that could stop it from connecting the network. One way to check this would be to disconnect the laptop from the network, reboot the router (which should reset the IP allocation) and then try to connect the SB. Also, does the router have any security log setting (my Belkin does) that will show you when something tries to connect to the network ? May give a clue what is going on. -- Siduhe Siduhe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=723 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25648 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Wireless won't connect ethernet works
The fact that your laptop works fine points IMHO to something amiss with the Squeeze Box itself. What that, exactly, is is impossible to guess. The fact that there are multiple threads in the forum about wireless connections that just don't work makes me beleive there is something either inherently wrong with the hardware or it is just the same old wireless illusion that we (I) always fall for. That illusion is that it will actually work. A couple of years ago I tried a wireless setup in my office and the network was continually dropping off and it was impossible to get any work done. In that case it was critical the netwok function properly so I hard wired the whole office. Beleive me when I say that is the short version of that nightmare. I swore I would never do wireless ANYTHING again. My wireless (which I thought I would at least try since a couple of years had gone by since my last misadventure) Squeeze Box worked perfectly out of box, which now that I think about it, was probably too good to be true. I know there are many and perhaps most wireless users without any problems but when they occur it is such a nightmare to try and resolve. So I'll try to hard wire this weekend and really feel your pain if that's not an option. And anyone who hasn't had these problems with your SB knock on wood,. Not because it's the end of the world or really that big a deal it's just that the Squeeze Box is SO DAM COOL I can't imagine living without it. -- LHawes LHawes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6244 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25648 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I think your router log would be the best thing to look. It may show connection attempts by the SB and, if so, why it is failing. I see that brand of router has a built in firewall, not my area of expertise, but perhaps the router is rejecting the incoming request from the SB for some reason ? From the manual: The router will log security-related events such as denied incoming service requests, hacker probes, and administrator logins. If you enabled content filtering in the Block Sites menu, the Logs page can show you when someone on your network tries to access a blocked site. I had a similar problem with Rhapsody. I could browse my library but I get an error when I try to connect. I have two NICs installed on my computer (one for my internal personal network and one for my external business network) and I thought that may be causing the problem. I was able to correct this on my computer by first disabling my 'external' NIC and then starting Rhapsody and then re-enabling my 'external' NIC. I think that part of Rhapsody may be binding to the wrong NIC for some reason (actaully I don't think there is a way to control where it binds). This is kind of clumbsy for me but it works, maybe someone out there has a better solution or more knowledge of what is going on. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this info along just in case you are running more than one NIC. -- fred7 fred7's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6523 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25171 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Playlists in slimserver, including the current playlist, are stored in the database. If you wipe the database, the current playlist goes away. I can't say if this was intended, but it's not really unexpected. I also can't be sure it isn't already fixed in 6.5 builds. whether or not to file...I've gotten the impression that there is not one single rule that anyone follows for filing, so might as well go ahead. Well, it took a while but i think I got there. The best resource I found (UK based) is at http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=137, where there are whole FAQs on getting Harmonys to work with Panasonic TVs! Sadly, on European Panasonics, it isn't just a question of cycling through the inputs - the TV keeps state in several different layers which is far too complex for the Harmony to keep up with. There's the TV/AV state; within TV there is Analogue or Digital; within AV there are all of the different AV inputs; and within several of those there are yet more substates. The only way to make it work is to find a sequence of buttons which will take the TV to a known base state and then work from there to the desired outcome. Amongst the threads on this forum there are several bemoaning the fact that this simple piece of consumer kit is too hard to use... sound familiar?? So... its a good idea, but be warned that if you have some kit it doesn't like you could be in for a long journey before it works! At the time, I had a long run from the computer to the stereo (in another room perhaps 30 feet), and the signal from the PC audio-out had significant distortion and hum. The Stereo-Link claimed to handle runs up to 80' and it seemed worth a try. It did the job very well and I also used it as a handy driver for headphones (just click the on button and the PC sound goes out while the headphones are activated). Sound was very good, at least for my ears, and it eliminated all the issues I had at the time. When the CPU is high press Ctrl-Break in the command prompt, two or three times with a few seconds apart. Then if you could post the stack traces I'll see if I can work out what has gone wrong. Thanks, Richard Richard, Usually, the CPU pegs 20 seconds before the end of the first track I play. I noticed the message frames decoded at this point in the command window during the test. I don't know if that's a clue to the problem, or not. I ran the command as you instructed. I pressed ctrl-break three times. The first time, I collected the output just after the CPU pegged, 20 seconds from the end of the second track. I pressed ctrl-break again about 10 seconds later. I pressed it a third time after SoftSqueeze playback froze, 22 seconds from the end of track 3. The file you requested was too large to be displayed here and I have not had good luck up loading zips, so here's a link to the file: http://www.theheals.org/misc/java_output.txt -- jonheal Jon Heal says: Have a nice day! http://www.theheals.org/ jonheal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25438 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: rhapsody - problem : can't connect to server message
I can now get my SB3 to play Rhapsody songs. Yes! I just shut down the firewall on my Windows XP desktop, where SlimServer is running. I use a Trend Micro firewall. However, I don't want to leave the firewall down. Anybody know what information I need to give the firewall to open up the holes for Rhapsody? -- gmarks gmarks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6257 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25171 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Rhapsody uses a different random high port number every time you launch it. If you really need the firewall, you will probably need to open up full access for your SB3's IP address. -- andyg andyg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3292 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25171 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

_NK_ Wrote: @Mark Hm, an 85-90 seems pretty impressive to me considering the location you mention. I now have a 35% with 4 rooms in between (brick walls and a brick bathroom with tiles all over)...although there is also a corridor between the 2 endpoints which sure helps a lot (although its NOT line of sight) Cheers Nikos Nikos, I'm referring to wood floor and walls. The server is on the main floor and the SB2 is in the basement.about 15m distance.Concrete will likely be more difficult. These SMC's are actually directional, not omni as I said earlier. The model is SMCHMANT-6..they are like a square disc shape, about 8cm. I think they cost about $25 each. [slim] Re: harmony 880 and squeeze 3
Amongst the threads on this forum there are several bemoaning the fact that this simple piece of consumer kit is too hard to use... sound familiar?? So... its a good idea, but be warned that if you have some kit it doesn't like you could be in for a long journey before it works! Ceejay I guess this is all relative to your personal experience. Compared to a sony that I spent hours programming with various codes, the 880 was fairly simple. I have to add that I'm a SB and Tact user, which both can at times require patience and comfort with technical challenges! I was up and running quickly with 8 components, all of which were in the database except for an old VCR. I called the tech support on two occasions to help with this and a small problem with the Tact RCS, and they resolved the issues and changed the programming while I was on the phone..excellent service.
