Re: [slim] Need help - handheld device conection refused used to work...

2009-01-21 Thread dwc

My security settings: (Not sure if 7.3 has advanced as there is just
one page of settings for security I could find.)

Password Protection - No password Protection
Block Incoming Connections - Do Not Block
CSRF Protection Level - None

I still have not heard back from tech support, so I could really use
some more help.

The only errors I see in the general log are as follows. I don't know
what player is being referred to, as my bedroom player seems to be
working fine.

Player Model: squeezebox3
Firmware: 121
Player IP Address: 192.168.0.106

Slim::Networking::SqueezeNetwork::PrefSync::_syncDown_error (359) Sync
Down failed: No such player: 00:04:20:06:03:12, will retry in 14220

Is there no access logging that might show my handheld being refused
and why?
Does the slimcenter refuse certain brwoser types? I've tried IE
emulation as well as the default blackberry browser. What's
frustrating is that this used to work great...

Thanks,
Dan

2009-01-21 Thread SJobson

I am very happy with my iPhone and iPeng as a remote, though I often use
the normal IR SB3 remote and Boom remote (the latter because I can stick
it to the cooker hood, so it's handy).

What I'd like is something along the lines of a 15 touchscreen which
is not a remote, but which sits at the stereo and can be used to
compile playlists and select music more easily than using a remote.
Most of the time I just use the Squeezecentre web interface on my
laptop over any of real remotes/iPhone for just this reason.

Is it really displaying them in reverse order of disc number (4-1, 3-1,

Re: [slim] Multi disc sets not in order

2009-01-21 Thread snarlydwarf

Just to take care of the obvious...

Go to Settings - Music Library and check the status of multidisc
albums.

It should be set to 'Treat Multi-disc sets as a single album'

This will (assuming all Albumname's are set the same of course), group
all the discs, well, into a single album. It should work fine on the
two tracks you listed.

Of course, if you're talking about Browse Music Folder, that ignores
tags completely (by design).

It would be more helpful to see two tracks from the same album but

GL is a bit more money. For people who intend to keep the stock

Yes, the GL models have more memory as they run Linux under the hood as
opposed to proprietary embedded systems that don't require as much
memory.

This may make a difference as the early stripped-down versions were
apparently not as stable. Also more memory means more active
connections and generally more stable operation.

See http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47124 Note the
GL is the same as the v4.

This is old info though - last I heard the router was in v8, and this
was quite some time ago. The newer versions may be stable, but they
still do not have as much memory as the GL versions and likely never
will.

I think GL has more memory, to support DD-WRT , Tomato and similar the
L is for linux.
Linksys have acknowledged the many open source linux based router
firmwares around and and released hardware fit for purpose.

the older G only models will support open source, but the never ones
won't easily do that . DD-WRT and Tomato sites has long list of
compatibility with the many incarnations of the WRT54G* there's a
bunch of different versions also, not only G GL difference :)

GL is a bit more money.

The first four generations of the G has 4MB of flash. Then Linksys
decided to save some money, reduce cost, etc and changed it to 2MB.
This made it hard for the third party firmware folks, so they brought
back the GL (L for linux) model for folks who want different firmware.

Its about $10 more expensive, retail, and well worth it IMHO

There is a small DD-WRT that fits in the new, just G models. But you

In designing an application it's often a trade-off between memory use
and speed. More memory allows you to keep more things in fast RAM. Of
course, in modern OS'es it also pays to leave more RAM free, because it
can be used for caching.

So $30 for the remote plus (potentially) $30 for the programming cable?
Plus time effort? I'm not sure what the point is given you can get a
low end Harmony for $40. I'm all for hacking stuff because it's there
- but this doesn't really seem cost effective.

Maybe I've missed this but using either one of these remotes is it
possible to do a firmware upgrade on a receiver? Typically with a SB
you hold the brightness button for a firmware upgrade. If I just got
the receiver and decided to use one of these remotes through the iPod

It's not so hard as it might seem. You can hit 'Play' on the artist name to
do it.

If it were a setting in the random mix stuff, you'd just have to go and
select the artist afterwards anyway, so it's not like it'd save you much.

Kind of.
With your IR remote, you can set an option to automatically download
firmware updates.
I'm not sure (maybe somebody else can tell) but I believe the SBR will
always do FW updates automatically (no IR).

I buy from Monoprice regularly. Their Cat 5 cable prices are far lower
than anywhere else (and the cables are decent quality), and their
shipping is reasonably priced and fast.

Sample price: 100-foot Cat 5 cable $8.15. All the lengths up to five
feet are under a dollar each.

No, unfortunately the Duet does not have a shuffle button (and neither
does the Boom or the Boom remote). Using the Duet you have to go to
Settings, then select type of Shuffle. If you use Shuffle a lot you can
set the Home Menu so it has the Shuffle item on the top menu level.

You could look under the playlist in the web interface, but I agree that
it would be nice if the playlist name were listed above the current

say 'playlist'.

[slim] Squeezebox vs. AirTunes Setup

2009-01-21 Thread jm6

I am looking at setting up a home audio network and wondering what the
advantages / disadvantages of an AirTunes based network (Airport
Express, iTunes, iPod Touch with Remote, Airfoil to stream Pandora) vs.
Squeezebox.

The AirTunes network seems to be lower cost overall and has the
advantage of the iPod Touch apps, portability and wifi for internet
access (E-mail, etc). But it seems a bit cumbersome since you need a
workaround for Pandora, you can't stream different songs to different
airport expresses, you can't listen to tunes without having your PC on
and I'm worried about the clunkyness of using the remote app on the
iPod touch to go back to my PC to change tunes.

Appreciate any advice or key points I missed.

Re: [slim] Album Art Aggregator - gone bye bye?

2009-01-21 Thread bossanova808

The Album Art Downloader mentioned above is indeed very good - it kind
of hides its functionality though. At first it looks like you have to
do it one by one, but if you look in the menu it has a file browser
section. You point this at your music folder and it scans everything
you have in one go and shows which albums are missing artworkand
then can send of mass searches for them.

It does everything AAA does, and better, and is being actively
developed, so I've switched. I found tonnes more with it than with
AAA, some of the awkwardly named things it had no trouble with at all.

So - AAD but make sure you dig up the file browser or it looke
crappy...

255.255.255.0 across network. DND Server 208.67.222.222.
With SqueezeCenter running it occasionally, spontaneously lights up
with a now playing, stays that way for a few minutes and then goes
dark. no sound output.
I cannot ping it from the squeezecenter pc but can from another PC
where I had installed squeezecenter before (as a test) but have since
deleted it. It lights up the SlimP3 screen with the successful ping.
What am I missing here?

Squeezebox SqueezeCenter are compatible with Pandora if you live in
the US - without a workaround, you can stream different songs to
different Squeezebox Receivers/Booms/PC clients and SC has an ipod
phone/touch plugin/skin and at least three iPod apps (the one I have
tried is a joy to use).

You will still need your PC on though unless you have a NAS capable of
running SqueezeCenter.

Re: [slim] SB track progress bar remains blank

2009-01-21 Thread Diana

Mark Thanks for your very comprehensive advice. It did raise a few
questions...
Mark Lanctot;387504 Wrote:

 - make sure you're running the latest version. I see 7.3.2 was
 released today, please install that.
I have STABLE MAIN in my sources.list, but SC hasn't updated
automatically. I did check by doing -sudo aptitude update sudo
aptitude safe-upgrade- but got nothing. I've had a quick look at the
repo, and can't see the .deb; has it been packaged yet?
It would be even better if you installed the latest nightly
Can't see a .deb there yet, either. [EDIT: one there now; but I'll
wait for STABLE to update]
temporarily disable all third party plugins.
I havn't installed any myself. Are you suggesting also unselecting all
the ones included with SC, as listed on the Plugins page of 'Settings'?
make sure it's reproducible and document exactly what you need to do in
order to get this to happen.
That's what I've not been able to discern yet - what conditions it
occurs under, and how to reproduce it. It's what I was referring to
when I said it looks like I may need to get down to some systematic
solo investigation.

make sure it's not due to misconfiguration on your part.
Moi?! How could you suggest such a thing?! ;-) But, seriously,
you're right, in general, of course; but in this case, I can't imagine
there's any configuration involved here.
search for an existing bug first! Don't create a duplicate.
Yes, I did check, but couldn't see anything with 'track progress bar'.
(But is that the correct name/description to refer to the bar on the
screen saver that gets filled in as the track is playing and shows what
proportion of it has played? I don't know; and how would I find out?
Guessing the right technical names to use in searches is always a bit
of a puzzle, isn't it?)

Thanks, as always for your help. In the absence of any 'Me, too!'
replies to this thread, looks like I'll be doing some more solo
research!

Re: [slim] Which Playlist is playing?

2009-01-21 Thread teeitup

Thanks for opening that bug entry to help with this issue.

I thought I was just missing something obvious.

It is surprising that there is no indication in either the web
interface or controller as to which playlist is playing.
