Re: [slim] best remote?
I am very happy with my iPhone and iPeng as a remote, though I often use the normal IR SB3 remote and Boom remote (the latter because I can stick it to the cooker hood, so it's handy). What I'd like is something along the lines of a 15 touchscreen which is not a remote, but which sits at the stereo and can be used to compile playlists and select music more easily than using a remote. Yes, the GL models have more memory as they run Linux under the hood as opposed to proprietary embedded systems that don't require as much memory. This may make a difference as the early stripped-down versions were apparently not as stable. Also more memory means more active connections and generally more stable operation. See http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47124 Note the GL is the same as the v4. This is old info though - last I heard the router was in v8, and this was quite some time ago. [slim] Squeezebox vs. AirTunes Setup
I am looking at setting up a home audio network and wondering what the advantages / disadvantages of an AirTunes based network (Airport Express, iTunes, iPod Touch with Remote, Airfoil to stream Pandora) vs. Squeezebox. The AirTunes network seems to be lower cost overall and has the advantage of the iPod Touch apps, portability and wifi for internet access (E-mail, etc). But it seems a bit cumbersome since you need a workaround for Pandora, you can't stream different songs to different airport expresses, you can't listen to tunes without having your PC on and I'm worried about the clunkyness of using the remote app on the iPod touch to go back to my PC to change tunes. Re: [slim] Album Art Aggregator - gone bye bye?
The Album Art Downloader mentioned above is indeed very good - it kind of hides its functionality though. At first it looks like you have to do it one by one, but if you look in the menu it has a file browser section. You point this at your music folder and it scans everything you have in one go and shows which albums are missing artworkand then can send of mass searches for them. It does everything AAA does, and better, and is being actively developed, so I've switched. I found tonnes more with it than with AAA, some of the awkwardly named things it had no trouble with at all.
