Please check the scanner.log. It should tell you the filename it's choking on.
Then file a bug and attach that file to the bug report.

Re: [slim] Change for change's sake is bad

2009-09-29 Thread SilverRS8

In general the new controller interface looks nice but at first
impression overwhelming.
- Which line is selected can not easily be seen while not moving the
scroll wheel.
- The font used for the played and remaining time on the controller
well, I wonder how that got to the release stage (readability is
very low)
- It is a lot faster that before
- I too second that 'My Apps' are not apps and hence unintuitive
- Why is the center button functionality while viewing the now playing
list replaced by the + button on the controller?

Ok, music library is now called 'My music' on all interfaces who
decided to not do that on the SB3? Here it is still called Music
library.

But, in general the new GUI is an improvement making it look a bit like
apples as have been mentioned before on this thread but the user
experience is a lot better. Plugin management by the way is superb!

Is this like Facebook ads, if the site thinks you're female, is there a
male avatar making a sales pitch? This is really cheesy. My favorite
part has to be the avatar saying "If you're like me..." -- um, what?

Good news, the NoScript plugin for Firefox blocks it pretty well if you
haven't allowed codebaby.com. But my friends don't tend to use NoScript,
so I'll have to be careful who I talk to about Squeezebox for a while.
:-/ My condolences to the folks at Logitech SMBU -- Radio is a nice

shipping.

The animation looks daft, but of more concern is that who or whatever
hosts Logitech's site doesn't seem up to the task. Over here in the UK,
the performance of the site is now so poor that I give up most evenings
because it takes so long to load a page. I had wondered whether it was
the internet backbone UK / US links that were coincidently out of
capacity, but other clearly US hosted sites (Audiogon for example) loads
just fine.

It is not much of an advert for a company trying to sell streaming
media product when their own web page performance is so poor as to make
it unusable.

I'm not having nightmares, but I wish it was ONLY on a link that had to
be followed before it starts or can be seen. Might defeat the purpose,
but sure would be better in my opinion. It makes me think of MicroSuck

Speaking of Mac, the thing is mainly broken in Safari anyway with white

[slim] 7.4: Custom.map for Digital Inputs

2009-09-29 Thread dagordon

The inability in 7.4 to set digital inputs as presets effectively breaks
my home theater setup. So I'm trying to figure out how to set up a
custom IR command to select the Toslink input of my Transporter.

Adding this:

command = modefunction_Plugins::DigitalInput::Plugin->toslink

doesn't work (of course I'm replacing "command" with the IR command I'm
trying to assign). If I put, say, "power_toggle" on the right hand side
of the equals it will toggle the power, so the custom.map is working
just fine. Apparently this isn't the right code to select the Toslink
input.

Any ideas?

Hear, hear!

Yes, I'll get used to these UI changes. Yes, I'll get used to the
decreased amount of information shown on my Controller's screen due to
the cute little useless icons that now take up 20%+ of each line. Yes,
I'll get used to the whole "Apps" thing, although I don't like it.

Perhaps we users could be allowed to choose these "pretty" changes or
not via an interface configuration option? Or at least let us change
font sizes (smaller to get more information, larger to read easier)
and/or get rid of the icons?

You can't. They are "apps" now, so they are in "My Apps" or in the home
(ie, top-level) menu. You can control what goes in the top-level menu
via Settings. The specific settings depend on whether you are talking
about the SBC menu, or one of the player menus (eg, SB3, Boom).

If it's too hard to type squeezeboxserver then just use tab-completion
and you'll probably be fine with sq[tab], or define an alias.

Personally I'm not fond of the SbS name or the "apps" concept, but is
it really that hard to adapt to these minor changes?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox + Spotify + PS3 = ???

2009-09-29 Thread Declan Moriarty

Yes it does work with the free version. You have to use the address in
the brouser of:-

http://serverip:5800

where serverip is the ip address of the server you are using. You can
also use the name of the server if it has a name. The VNC server will
download a Java applet to the browser that has to be installed. After
this happens it does an authentication check if you have set it up.
After that it puts up another window with the desktop.

This presupposes that the PS3 will allow you to run java applets!

1) Why is radioio now under MyApps instead of Internet Radio? How do I
move it back?
2) XM Radio which finally was working is now broken again.
3) Changing the name os the server for the third time to something
really long is bad. What was wrong with SqueezeServer? Now I must type
rcsqueezeboxserver start
on my linux machine. Too hard to type! And too hard to remember.

Why don't you have a page that explains the logic for these updates,
what has changed, and how to use this again?

[slim] 7.4 Can't Make Digital Input a Preset?

2009-09-29 Thread dagordon

I'm trying to assign the 1 key on the remote to the Optical Input on my
Transporter. When I hold down 1 when the Optical Input is playing it
says "Preset #1 (Hold To Save)"; I continue holding the 1 key, and
"Preset #1 (Hold To Save)" switches to "Digital Inputs", and the input
has not been saved. Am I missing something?

Until you try another router (preferably the one that was working

Hi Jim,

The reason I ripped the files to wav rather than flac is because I was
having trouble with the flac encoder.I think the version of flac that I
was using was struggling with the long files. The rest of my music
files are in flac format. And yes, the rebuffering only occurs with the
hi-res tracks. The server has 2GB RAM.

We have broken a couple of the new style remotes - they are very fragile
and do not survive much of a drop onto a wooden floor.
I too need to buy another one. I found it for £30 at
www.ripcaster.co.uk, this seams alot for a pretty cheap remote that is
not strong enough to stand up to the normal use / abuse that remotes
get.
Anyone know where to get one cheaper?

It is a bit, but you can make the drive spin down when not in use. So
it's 3 watt when idle and 2-10 (depending on drive) watt extra when
listening music.

Since you have to store the music files on another device (e.g.

I just had my Cyrus two repaired and I mostly don't regret it. It cost
160 pounds and is now working as new. My only regret is that I can now
listen to my old vinyl again and the SqueezeBox does not quite live up
to the same so I need to investigate better DACs or a transporter. Alas
my budget does not extent to either.

It went back to cyrus via a local hifi shop and took months to return
and even then they failed to fix the phono stage first time.

Had I seen one on ebay I would have bid for it myself.

Is there any reason why you are using wav instead of a compressed
lossless codec such as FLAC? The wav files take 2-3 times the bandwidth
of FLAC, and the audio quality is identical.

Also, does the rebuffering occur only with your high-res files? If
that's the case then it could be because your server is struggling to do
the downsampling needed to supply the SB3, which does not support
high-res natively.

2009-09-29 Thread radish

According to the wiki it needs 5v 1A. As for remotes, try your local
Logitech support center, if they can't help you could try ordering from
the US (they've helped out in the past) or you could use pretty much any
universal remote (some have SB codes built in, or you can use JVC DVD
player codes).

Re: [slim] SB3 - replacement PSU / remote?

2009-09-29 Thread ShadowWar

My SB3 power supply ceased functioning a couple of weeks ago: I replaced
it with a standard Maplin 5V switch-mode PSU. It was about £20 for one
with interchangeable tips, and I believe it can produce an output
current of about 4A. If you want I'll check the details when I get home
in a few hours.

[slim] Cyrus Two no worky - fix or upgrade?

2009-09-29 Thread thurstongarden

Some time back I got a free Cyrus Two and PSX off freecycle and can say
I grew to love the sound very much. I have some Mission 773 hooked upto
the Cyrus.

10 days ago, the Cyrus stopped working. Spotting a (newer version of)
Cyrus Two on ebay, with an hour to run, I jumped and bought it. It
arrived today and hooked up to the PSX, power up and I had sound for a
few seconds... Not happy. On Googling, I relised I should have removed
the two fuses from the Two, but they seem to be OK and removing them has
not made any difference.

So - do I get either/both of them repaired (Cyrus repair will no doubt
cost an arm and a leg) or do I bite the bullet and pony up for a new
replacement amp? Roksan Kandy K2 is tempting but the nearest shop is 100
miles away...

The replacement C2 was £125 - add in the cost of a repair job and the
money would go quite a way to a new amp.

What to do?? I hate dilemmas!

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-09-29 Thread jimwillsher

Go into SqueezeCenter and view the Server Status page. On there it'll
show you the wireless signal strength.

A cabled solution will be 100Mb or 1000Mb, whereas wireless will be 54
Mb at best. if your signal strnegth is poor then you'll start hitting
problems.

I've got three SB3 players, all connecting wirelessly. If the signal is
below 50% I get buffering, so I've moved them all around slightly and
now they all show around 85%-90% and no buffering, not even from FLAC.

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-09-29 Thread symi

Hi Everyone,

I don't know if this question was answered in a previous thread or
post, I did run a search on the forum and came back with 0 results.

I have a number of dvd-audio discs. I have ripped a few of them to my
server but squeezebox (classic) won't play them back without rebuffering
every few seconds. I rip them to .wav files. The squeezebox is connected
wirelessly. I also own a popcorn hour and this plays the dvd-audio
hi-res stereo flawlessly. The popcorn hour is connected to the wireless
modem/router via network cable (standard cat5). I guess I'm wondering
if this is why I can't play the same files on the classic? One being
cabled and the other being wireless? Any suggestions would be helpful
and appreciated.

Many thanks

Symi

[slim] 7.4 scan failure under Windows

2009-09-29 Thread Andy Hawkins
Hi all,

Never used Squeezecentre under Windows before, but a flaky net connection at
work has led me to install it there and copy my music over rather than
accessing my home system. I figured that as 7.4 had just been released I'd
give that a go.

Getting the following error when scanning while trying to merge Various

My results with the search-function is not fantastic either. I often
try a Google site-restricted search if results are disappointing -
something like "site:forums.slimdevices.com searchterms" or just
"site:slimdevices.com searchterms" if results from e.g. the wiki should
be included.

[slim] SB3 - replacement PSU / remote?

2009-09-29 Thread moley6knipe

Hi! One of my SB3s has a blown PSU. I can't find this in the
documentation anywhere - how much power does the SB3 draw, i.e. what
rating PSU should I buy to replace it? I've got a spare 5v supply but
it's rated less than the one that come with the product, wanted to know
if it was big enough before buying anything new.

Also! is it still the case that one can't buy a spare IR remote for an
SB3 unless in the US?

Thanks!

And I guess that 85% of statistics like that are made up. If you use
the SN services *through* SC/SbS then you don't need to upgrade to 7.4.
Right now I am listening to internet radio through SC 7.3.3.

If you're looking for a username, then you have to search by username.
>From the Search drop-down (top-center), select Advanced Search. Then put
the username you're looking for in the "Search by Username" on the right
side. I just did that with your username and it found all the threads in
which you had posted. Of course, you can combine username search with
keyword searches by also entering search terms on the left side of the
advanced search screen.

I am puzzled by the negative results I get from use of the "Search"

To test this function, I've done the following :-

For instance , in the Beginners NG when I input a User Name by choosing

Why do I get this result ?

Well as others say: in 7.3 it was usable if you applied the right
workarounds, e.g. the headphone switcher plugin. In 7.4 its mostly
useless, unless you use just the right music format, low
resource-screensaver etc. In that case the glitches tend to disappear
after a mínute or so.
