[slim] About to add a Boom to a 7.3.3 SC network. Firmware problems with 7.4?
Already have an SB2 and an SB3. The server is always on during the day, turns itself off (S3 standby) at 3.00 AM and back on at 8.15 AM. At switch off the server sends the bedroom SB3 to SqueezeNetwork to keep the clock going (at wife request). Now I'd like to place the Boom in the bedroom but I have no intention (yet) to mess with the 7.4 can of worms. If I don't send it to Squeezenetwork I won't have problems with firmware updates ever, right? Is Boom capable of keeping the clock screensaver on even when the server goes down? Yes. I have a boom in my study connected to a 7.3.4 server which also serves an SB3 Classic in the living room. The server turns off with Server Power Control and the boom keeps displaying the time. [slim] Signal strength and Network Test
I am surprised and concerned that the wireless signal strength of my Squeezebox 2 is currently shown as 10%. It's not a figure I look at often, but I could swear it used to be around 60%. The SB doesn't do any EQ. Was your CD player also going through the AVR's DAC, or were you using the CD player's DAC? If the latter, then what you're hearing is probably the difference between the CDP's DAC and the AVR's DAC. If the former, I don't know. (Disclaimer: I'm not an audiophile either.) Re: [slim] Squeezebox V3 vs Yamaha Naturual Sound CDC-655
some times it can be that the analog ins on most recievers are digitized anyway. So one is listening to DA-AD-DA wich is not good . You seldom get the full resolution as often this input is rather unsesitive to aviod clipping . Use an spl meter and compare the volume ,before listening maybe one is louder than the other , subtle volume changes is percived as better by our brain. If one source is 2dB louder you won't hear that as loud but rather like better when you switch. So for most receivers the obvious input is the digital one. The only subtle manipulation sbs and the squeezebox may be guilty of is replay gain, ei equalization of volume between tracks . But if you turn of this or do not have replay gain tags it wont matter. So the squeezebox pass bitferfect audio on its digital out. -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70208 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Users in London
Well, I had intended this thread to be specifically just to find someone in London who runs a Squeezebox, so that I can take my Radio along and test the hardware. I'm beginning to think there may be a hardware issue with it. I had started other threads (one in Squeezebox Radio, one in Squeezebox Server, though maybe I should only have made one) for software help such as yours and Toby's. Anyway, the answer is that Ping and TCP are shown as Not Connected, which fits in with my experience that when I try to connect using My Music I just get told to make sure that Squeezebox Server is running on my computer. Which it is, and connecting without trouble to my Squeezebox 2. As I mentioned in the other thread, I had originally got a good connection to SBS, which suddenly disappeared. While trying various attempts to bring it back, I did a factory reset on the Radio. One thing that surprised me. I tried connecting via ethernet rather than wireless, and got to Connected via Ethernet. I was therefore a touch surprised that the diagnostics showed information about my wireless connection -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70293 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I didn't mention it in this thread, because its only purpose - as I specifically said in my first post - was to find someone else with an SB, so that I could take the Radio along and test if it is a failure of the Radio. I wasn't expecting any replies other than from people in London letting. In my other threads I had mentioned that I used a Mac. And yes, I don't know the reason, but the Preference Pane, which is the Mac version of what you are talking about, has most of the same settings as the Control Panel, but does not include a Diagnostics item. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70293 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

MeSue;477103 Wrote: Why not just call support? Seem like they'd be best equipped to diagnose a hardware failure. Well, yes. But (a) it's the weekend (b) I still think that physically trying it on someone else's system is at least as good a way of diagnosis as a diagnosis by phone. Might take longer to organise, but would only take a couple of minutes to test. Going through various tests by phone can be quite a chore, and one never knows if the support people are just following a script or if they know what they are talking about. Just as an example of a place where Logitech aren't up-to-date, their FAQ page on dealing with firewall issues cover Mac Tiger and Leopard, but not Snow Leopard as yet. Certainly I intend to phone support if I don't get a response here, but I would really prefer actually trying to connect to someone else's server, as that would reveal at once if the problem is with the Radio or with my system. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70293 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
... but not any more. Since last time I got DSBridge to work, I've upgraded to 7.4 (and then 7.4.1). Tonight, I've had the mother of all troubles trying to get the damn thing to work again. When I put the URL into SqueezeWhatever, the sound stops on the source PC, but nothing comes out of my Transporter (or anything else). The little DSBridge ball turns green, which I think means I'm sending, honest!; even more tantalising, the album artwork appears on the Controller; but the Transporter display just goes blank, and no sound comes out. (I can go back to Now Playing, scroll around other menu options to my heart's delight, but selecting Now Playing just shows a blank screen.) How the hell can it be that the Controller can see it, and believe that the Transporter is playing it, but the Transporter is not? There's some gibberish in the SqueezeWhatsit log about some kind of problem with TitleFormatter.pm, but I have better things to do than try to work out what the heck that's on about. To cap it all, I can't get the sodding sound back on the source PC, so now I can't listen to Spotify at all! This is still so even though I've changed the playlist on the Transporter, and told it to stop doing whatever it is that it isn't doing. In earlier attempts, it seemed just that pausing Spotify for a few seconds was enough for DSBridge to go blue, but even that no longer works. Yet another evening wasted pissing around trying to get the bloody software to work instead of listening to the damn music. I love my SqueezeWidgets when they work, but when they don't, it's intensely frustrating! -- Brian -- Brian Ritchie Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
Like in Brian's case above this was working brilliantly, but I needed to upgrade to 7.4.1 (ReadyNAS Duo). After that I cannot get SqueezboxServer to accept the http://192.168..:8124/ as input. It simply never displays the 'play' arrow on that Favourite. I have the blue dot from dsbridge. I did at some point see a meesage concerning 'missing LAME plugin'. That message linked to lame-homepage, so I did nothing. Should one reinstall the dsbridge stuff, I have not touched Spotify.
