[slim] Strange behaviour

2009-12-29 Thread itm

I had some strange glitches with my Squeezecenter environment yesterday
- I was wondering if anyone could hazard a guess at what the problem
is?

I'm running Squeezecenter 7.4 on Windows Server 2003. I have the
following clients:
- 1 Squeezebox Duet, connected via ethernet/HomePlug
- 2 x Squeezebox booms connected via wifi
- 2 Softsqueeze clients running on Windows XP SP2 machines, connected
via ethernet

While attempting to play a long playlist (about 500 tracks) on the
Squeezebox Duet receiver it would frequently stop playing, then resume a
few minutes later. Eventually I checked the Squeezecenter server machine
and it was saying that the Squeezecenter server had been stopped. I
restarted it, then tried playing tracks on one of the Softsqueeze
clients (XP SP2). It would play a minute or so of the track, then the
machine would spontaneously reboot itself.

These two incidents may be coincidence, but I have a feeling that they
are related.

Can anyone suggest any likely causes of the problem.

[slim] Napster problems

2009-12-29 Thread havoc1

Napster has worked fine for me for a couple of months, but recently has
been going wrong. In my browser I am getting the error failed to parse
when clicking around looking for music in Napster. The player is
skipping tracks with an unknown Napster error and another error
message I haven't managed to decipher yet. Any ideas?

Do you know how to open the SqueezeCenter web interface?
If yes: if you go to Settings (there's a link at the bottom of the
page) and click on the Information tab you will get a page that shows
(among other things) the Server IP Address. That's what you need. It's
probably the only thing you need to set.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v1.5 (ACC)

2009-12-29 Thread Richard Scales
Having used this in its early days I am now failing miserably!

I have downloaded ACC V1.6 and am on Server V 7.41

From SB Server Control panel

Hostname: W2K8

Server IP Address: 192.168.100.190

Operating system: Windows 2008 - EN - cp1252

Platform Architecture: 586

Perl Version: 5.10.0 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread

MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

Total Players Recognized: 4

I have installed ODBC drivers (64 bit) for 3.51 and later versions and I
still get the following message after clicking 'start' in ACC.

I have checked the hta file and the credentials used for connection to the
database are slimserver/slimserver - have these changed now that the name of
the server has changed to 'squeezebox server' ?

I have also tried this from other workstations running Vista and XP 32 bit
but get the same response.

All pointers gleefully received!

When I use the ARTISTSORT feature, the artists are listed correctly, but

in the 'Quick Reference' they show separation letters by first name.

IOW, 'Joan Armatrading' and 'Louis Armstrong' are both listed

alphabetically by their last name, before Joan Armatrading is a 'J'

separator, and while directly following her is Louis Armstrong, their is

a 'L' separator.

Make sense?

Thanks everyone.
My ReadyNas will have over 3000 albums on it, and so the ease of use is
more important than a remote with the lcd screen.
I'd probably use it more in my dining/kitchen area and not from room to

Will one classic remote run 2 receivers if they are synced(if im making

Yes, if your players are synched, when you use the regular remote to

also change.

It seems really silly to only show albums, given that the year attribute
is only held against the track.

Unfortunately the year attribute is not well defined and is used
inconsistently. Some people put the release year of the album here (this
is also what happens when you tag your files with MusicBrainz Picard),
while others use it for the year when the particular track has
originally been released (which is what I prefer). Normally both will be
the same, but it makes a difference for compilations, for example.

I don't even know where the album year is taken from. I guess it's
either from the first track the scanner happens to encounter, or the
from the year attrbute of track 1.

Btw., there's a similar problem with album artwork. While it is
possible to attach different images to each track (I actually did that
for some whitesleeve vinyl singles, where I tagged the tracks with a
scan of the center label from side A or side B, respectively), SBS will
just pick one of the images and apply that to the whole album.

jimwillsher;499886 Wrote:
It seem seen more silly to then show am empty year placeholder.

The funny thing is that if there is at least one album displayed, there
is also an All Tracks button which in fact shows all the tracks from
that year, including those not from one of the listed albums.

So the actual bug is that the All tracks button is omitted when there
are no albums shown.

Yes, having a closer look at the Custom Scan plugin is already on my to

18000 tracks for optimal results. :)

1- I currently use an ASUS Eeebox to serve 16+ zones of music. Can a

2- Could a Vortexbox serve Squeezeboxes and Sonos players at the same

No special application... I have a lot of places where I want to listen
to music. I don't like traditional multi-zone systems that require you
to wire keypads in your walls and then only allow very limited control
of your music (volume, source, and very little else).

I also never seem to throw anything away so as I moved from SliMP3s to
SB3s I never got rid of the old players - just retasked them to display
messages and stuff. I even have an old AudioTron around that I used
before I discovered Slim Devices.

I'm guessing that if you go to the Squeezebox Server Web UI - Settings

We just need to narrow down where the network is blocking the traffic.

room since I got a Squeezebox Radio for the bedroom and kitchen. I'm
looking at getting a Blu-ray player, and one of the models I'm
considering is the Sony BDP-N460. This model does not have built-in
WiFi, but Sony recommends using it with the Linksys WET610N Wireless N
Ethernet Bridge.

Would there be any problem with me using my Squeezebox Classic as a
wireless bridge with this player? The Squeezebox is a wireless-G
device, while the recommended bridge is a wireless-N device. My router
is a wireless-N Linksys model.

I want the internet connectivity primarily for use with Netflix and
Amazon Video on Demand. Would using a wireless-G bridge (instead of
wireless-N) have any negative effect on streaming video/audio? I'm not
well-versed on this topic.

Any help (as well as any thoughts on the Blu-ray player) would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [slim] Squeezepod on the iPod

2009-12-29 Thread DaveKen

Hi Pippin and Garym,
Thanks both for your help, Pippin for helping with a competitors
product and Garym for pointing it out to me who knows nothing of such
things - sincerely, much appreciated, both

Pippin: using the volume control toggle control (top left of iPod
Touch) works wonders - :-) - thanks - should have thought of that
myself, doh!

Garym: have got iTunes loaded but I think I now realise why there is no
facility on the iPod Touch to create playlists - presumably the
playlists are made on the PC and the iPod Touch just accesses those,
rather than offering the ability to create a playlist on the Touch
itself.

Thanks again for your help,
Dave.

I'm a little confused about what you are actually playing on the
iTouch. Am I correct that you are using an app called Squeezepod on the
itouch to play music through your SqueezeboxServer (SbS) (which is
installed on your local PC). If so, yes, the playlists are made on the
SbS and the iTouch is just giving you control over playback via the
squeezepod app.

Hi Garym,
Yes you are correct in everything you state in your second sentence, so
that confirms what I suspected, and what you state in your last
sentence.
Cheers,
Dave.

Yep. Makes sense and thanks for the report. It has already been solved
and I will post a new beta real soon. Just need to solve the issue

handle it without FPU.

[slim] ACC Guide for installation

2009-12-29 Thread Richard Scales
Hello.

I am struggling with ACC. I am running Server V7.41 on a Windows 2008 64 bit
platform.

I have installed Album Catalogue Creator V1.6a and installed the ODBC driver
3.51.

ACC complains that it cannot connect to the MYSQL database and suggests that
it may not be set to use the default credentials or that the required OSBC
driver is not installed (the v5.x ODBC driver is also installed)

I can see from the ACC code that it is expecting username and password to be
'slimserver'

If I use the ODBC administrator I cannot connect to the database either.

Does anyone have this combination running successfully or can anyone advise
what tests I might perform in order to resolve the situation?

When ACC was first launched I can it successfully on an old Windows 2003 SBS
box (32 bit) but that hardware has long since gone!

Regards

Richard Scales
