I know its may be personal preference and I even considered getting rid of Albumplayer if the software was OK but there really is no contest. Out of curiousity I downloaded the demo version of AlbumPlayer - here are my initial impressions (which are obviously skewed by the fact I am not familiar with the software!) 1) took 45 minutes+ to scan in my 32k Track database + about 15 more minutes to finish off gathering the artwork from my cover.jpg files - so about half the speed of 7.5Embedded on the same machine. CPU was pretty 50% pegged during this time (single core machine). 2) No handling of multi-disc sets 3) search/filter function works on songs or artist or album titles - but not across all 3 at once. However, it does use progresive keystroke matching (like MusicIP). Partially because of the progressive matching, the searching is extremely quick - a few milliseconds after your last keystroke, compared to about a second on SBS 4) No integration with MIP that I could yet find (?) 5) the browse lists are horrible - well, the lists are OK but the scrolling gives me a headache as it jerks around - it's hard to explain in words what it does but I don't like it. 6) The app has a slightly Windows Media Player ish feel to it 7) the inbuilt tag editing is... dangerous 8) The artist browse supports artist artwork, which is nice, although I don't want to be reminded what a lot of 60's rock bands actually looked like :-) All in all, it looks like a nice app if you like the Windows highly graphical approach. It is quick (but does anyone really need that speed? - I like to relax when listening to music...) SB players are about not needing direct computer interaction for music playback combined with excellent audio output. Id bet the vast majority of SB users access the web UI control mostly for management, settings, and maintenance purposes. For enjoying their music collection (or the extensive list of offered Music Services) they just use the hardware remotes (IR, Controller, iPhone, iTouch, Nokia, etc ). I do understand your desire for web UI usage for all playback control, many would agree with you and do so themselves. Its just not what I and the typical SB user desire for playback usage. SBS will never win any UI design competitions as this is not the focus of this server platform. Yes, I was thinking of switching to PyQt once it gets more stable. But now that MeeGo has announced official support to GTK I'll perhaps just stick with it for the time being. I'm coding with the Scratchbox in Ubuntu VirtualBox. I got it up and running pretty smoothly with the instructions given at maemo.org. I'm too very fond of Python. This is my first project in Python and GTK too, so I'm learning all the time. I did also find pysqueezecenter but found it lacking some functionality so I've pretty modified it quite a bit. Also replaced telnet with bare TCP sockets. -- hmaki hmaki's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56601 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] anyone using 7.5 embedded?
Wow, I'm not seeing that at all. I just compared loading album pages (large artwork sorted Artist/year/album) between 7.4.2 and 7.5.0-embedded and the load times are almost identical. Say around 9-10 seconds for 50-70 albums. I installed the latest nightly (r30366), did a clear and rescan, and then hit different parts of the alpha index on the albums page, and get the same results. The 7.5e is running in a VM on the same box as 7.4.2, so it's not a perfectly fair comparison. Two differences that come to mind are (1) the VM only has 400MB RAM vs. 1.6GB for the host, though the VM doesn't appear to be swapping at all (2) the VM mounts the music library via CIFS, whereas the host (7.4.2) accesses the library directly. But if it's caching in the db that's improved, I wouldn't think that the CIFS delay would matter. Are these platform differences likely explanations, or is there some other reason anyone can think of why I'm not seeing the speed increase. The album art is mostly cover.jpg, usually betwenn 300x300 and 500x500. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76099 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

For the iPad launch there will definitely only the iPhone version be available. I might try to stretch it out a bit to make better use of screen space for iPad but that would be it. iPad only launches in Europe end of April (no date announced yet) and I definitely want real HW to play around with before I finalize any designs. I don't believe you can design this for usability on a simulator. I'll keep an eye out for it. I have one suggestion, that you may want to consider for the iPhone and iPad. (If you already have this feature, my apologies.) It would be cool to use GPS information to find upcoming gigs in the local area of whatever band you're listening to or similar-sounding bands (perhaps, using MusicIP). -- ezkcdude There are 10 kind of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't. [slim] Squeezeplay and Squeezeslave
I touched on this on another thread, no answers, so figured I'd post it here. I would like to run both Squeezeplay and Squeezeslave on the same box, as it has a touch screen which I think would support Squeezeplay well, but I want to use the asio drivers of my soundcard, hence the inclusion of Squeezeslave (squeezeslave-asio). Re: [slim] Synced Players
I often sync my two Recievers and Radio. I have one spot where I can hear all three players. I cannot hear any delay or echo, ever. During the last year or so I have an issue once. The radio what ~ ½ second out of sync. It was so from the beginning and two presses on pause solved it. However they way you set up the sync from either an IR remote or a Controller is Less than optimal. If you have more than two players and want to switch sync on and off at a regular basis you simply *must* look at third party plugins or even thirdparty hardware (iPhone or other smartphone). Which is fair enough given the Slim-design-philosophy. Logitech provides the core functionality and if you want something more fancy, look for 3rd party software.
