Re: [slim] Remote dead on my Classic
The most common reason for an SB3 IR remote to stop functioning is the solder connections at the emitter “eye” can get loose or broken. This can usually be easily fixed if you want to open up the remote (void warranty, if applicable) and you know how to solder. You can check if the IR is actually working on any IR remote by pointing the remote towards any digital camera (even a cell phone camera) press a button and see if you see the emitter “eye” light up. This works better in darker rooms. If the SB3 remote is not fixable you do have options: - use the web UI interface to control playback (on both SBS and MySB) - use a SB Controller or Touch or Radio to control playback - use any universal IR remote with JVC_DVD codes (must check the box to use this code in SBS > Settings > Player > SB3 > Remote) - use a JVC_DVD remote you may have laying around - use / buy a SB replacement IR remote (ex: Touch / Radio / Boom remotes will all work with SB3) The Touch remote is the closest to the original SB3 remote with alpha/numeric buttons. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80418 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Remote dead on my Classic
Hello I brought a Squeezebox Classic of a friend and its been well and good till recently the remote has shown no or little life. What I mean is that the remote does not function correctly and that I may have to push some of the buttons quite firmly or push them over and over again till I get a response. I have changed the batteries and checked to see any interference and nothing comes to mind. There were days when the remote responded perfectly and some that need it a good working. Is there indication that it could be something wrong with my Squeezebox server or is it just hardware related? -- Schizophonic Schizophonic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39225 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80418 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm not sure, but I would guess so. Again, it's easy to test. You could load up a giant playlist, such as your entire Rock genre, from directly on the Boom and see how long it takes, then try it from a Squeezeplay client. I think the performance problem stems from the SP client needing to be sent data for every single track in the playlist whenever the playlist is queued. [slim] iPhone App to use Classic/Transporter IR blasting capabilities as home theater remote
I'd like to announce an iPhone App, Mote, that allows you to control any ethernet-enabled device using your iPhone or iPod touch. It was written specifically to use the IR blasting capabilities of the Squeezebox Classic and Squeezebox Transporter to control all of the devices in a home theater setup. Commands are sent via Wi-Fi from your iPhone/iPod to your Squeezebox Server, which uses the IRBlaster plugin to blast IR commands through the Classic/Transporter's headphone jack to control TVs, DVD players, etc. Mote offers all the features of an expensive home theater remote and more, including organization by devices and activities, multiple panels of buttons for each activity/device in both portrait and landscape orientation, full macro functionality, and gestures. Its programmable directly on your iPhone/iPod, with no external software required. I've long used the IR blaster plugin to automatically control my amplifier when using iPeng to listen to my music. I wanted the same functionality for my home theater setup, and Mote provides that. For details, check out Mote at the iTunes App store, or at its web site (worriedcat.com). The web site contains a full description of how to use Mote with the Squeezebox Classic or Transporter, as well as a demo video and full user manual. To the best of my knowledge, only the Squeezebox Classic and Transporter have IR blasting capabilities, thus you cannot use the newer Squeezebox products as IR blasters. While Mote was written with the Classic in mind, it can control any ethernet-enabled device which uses the TCP, UDP, HTTP, or HTTPS protocols (Squeezebox Center uses TCP for its Command Line Interface, HTTP for URL commands, and UDP for its xPL interface). -- Worried Cat Worried Cat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39224 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80414 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] How do I now add Radio Stations to Favourites?
Hi All, I have a Squeezbox 3 (classic?. I updated squeezebox server a few weeks ago and have discovered that in the update that they have implemented a change to the the menus in Internet Radio. Before it was great, I use to search radio stations using an app on my Android phone and if I liked them I could then add them to my favourites by hitting the right key on my remote and 'add to favourites'. It was the same if I wanted to post what radio station I was listening to on Facebook, just hit the right key and scroll to the Facebook option. For some reason which I cant fathom the new 'Radiotime' menu has removed these options and added options which, for me are useless. Even worse I cant now figure out how to add radio stations to my favourites. Is it possible to get rid of this awful Radiotime menu or perhaps someone can inform me how to add Radio Stations to favourites with the remote (while they are playing). cheers -- hp1 hp1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33878 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80407 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's a big job if you want to do it right and there are a licensing issues standing in the way of doing the simple solutions (porting SqueezeSlave or SoftSqueeze). However, there are two players out there for iPhone and I hope that with iOS4 and Multitasking it will be possible to use them in the background with iPeng (they lack a bit on the UI side). I use SqueezeCast right now and it works quite well. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80405 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Android / Apple devices as a player
Without wishing to detract in the slightest from the great work achieved already by, amongst others, flattermann on Android and pippin on Apple devices, top of the list of requests is always (understandably) to introduce functionality to allow the device to act as a player. This post certainly isn't intended to niggle again and demand instant releases to turn our phones into Squeezeboxes overnight. These guys are already under enough pressure from a justly grateful customer base. I do genuinely wonder though why it's not been done yet by any of the Apple or Android developers (not just pippin or flattermann), given that it must be the number one feature being requested and would without doubt make an offering stand above its competitors. Is there something specific which makes it difficult to implement, or is it simply (and quite understandably if so) a big job and therefore not undertaken lightly? -- hunta hunta's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=333 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80405 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
