Oh my!!! :-)

I might have had a heart attack if my kids did that. I guess I should

Or...maybe he just has a poor wireless connection and that's causing the

you mean softsqueeze. squeezeplay one must still download from the
"nightlies" section. (unless this has changed for 7.6. In 7.5, it is
community softsqueeze that you can download.)

In newer version of SBS, SqueezePlay is available as a plug-in called
"Community Squeezeplay." You have have to first enable "view all 3rd
party plug-ins."

It is handy because if you have your server set-up for remote access,
you can install this player from the WebUI...

I had a similar problem develop over time, with a database of 26,000

Clearing the cache and rescanning actually fixed the timeout issue, but

Re: [slim] Remote dead on my Classic

2010-07-13 Thread toby10

The most common reason for an SB3 IR remote to stop functioning is the
solder connections at the emitter “eye” can get loose or
broken.
This can usually be easily fixed if you want to open up the remote
(void warranty, if applicable) and you know how to solder.

You can check if the IR is actually working on any IR remote by
pointing the remote towards any digital camera (even a cell phone
camera) press a button and see if you see the emitter “eye”
light up.
This works better in darker rooms.

If the SB3 remote is not fixable you do have options:
- use the web UI interface to control playback (on both SBS and MySB)
- use a SB Controller or Touch or Radio to control playback
- use any universal IR remote with JVC_DVD codes (must check the box to
use this code in SBS > Settings > Player > SB3 > Remote)
- use a JVC_DVD remote you may have laying around
- use / buy a SB replacement IR remote (ex: Touch / Radio / Boom
remotes will all work with SB3)
The Touch remote is the closest to the original SB3 remote with
alpha/numeric buttons.

If you have soldering skills, you can check the connection between the
IR LED on the remote and the circuit board - this is known to crack.
Supposedly re-flowing the solder can fix this (assuming this is the
issue).

[slim] Remote dead on my Classic

2010-07-13 Thread Schizophonic

Hello

I brought a Squeezebox Classic of a friend and its been well and good
till recently the remote has shown no or little life. What I mean is
that the remote does not function correctly and that I may have to push
some of the buttons quite firmly or push them over and over again till I
get a response.

I have changed the batteries and checked to see any interference and
nothing comes to mind. There were days when the remote responded
perfectly and some that need it a good working.

Is there indication that it could be something wrong with my Squeezebox
server or is it just hardware related?

I did something similar to pski but made them as wall units out of MDF.
I'll have to post a picture.

Sadly, I've filled the 3 of them that I built 7 years ago. With 3 kids

I'm not sure, but I would guess so. Again, it's easy to test. You
could load up a giant playlist, such as your entire Rock genre, from
directly on the Boom and see how long it takes, then try it from a
Squeezeplay client. I think the performance problem stems from the SP
client needing to be sent data for every single track in the playlist
whenever the playlist is queued. With the older players the playlist
only exists on the server.

+1 for rebooting router and network hardware. Looks like your SB is
talking to the router ok if it pulls up an address. On your PC you
could ping your Gateway address to see if you are talking to your

Microsoft updates turn it back on for you...

[slim] iPhone App to use Classic/Transporter IR blasting capabilities as home theater remote

2010-07-13 Thread Worried Cat

I'd like to announce an iPhone App, Mote, that allows you to control any
ethernet-enabled device using your iPhone or iPod touch. It was written
specifically to use the IR blasting capabilities of the Squeezebox
Classic and Squeezebox Transporter to control all of the devices in a
home theater setup. Commands are sent via Wi-Fi from your iPhone/iPod
to your Squeezebox Server, which uses the IRBlaster plugin to blast IR
commands through the Classic/Transporter's headphone jack to control
TVs, DVD players, etc. Mote offers all the features of an expensive
home theater remote and more, including organization by devices and
activities, multiple panels of buttons for each activity/device in both
portrait and landscape orientation, full macro functionality, and
gestures. Its programmable directly on your iPhone/iPod, with no
external software required. I've long used the IR blaster plugin to
automatically control my amplifier when using iPeng to listen to my
music. I wanted the same functionality for my home theater setup, and
Mote provides that.

For details, check out Mote at the iTunes App store, or at its web site
(worriedcat.com). The web site contains a full description of how to
use Mote with the Squeezebox Classic or Transporter, as well as a demo
video and full user manual.

To the best of my knowledge, only the Squeezebox Classic and
Transporter have IR blasting capabilities, thus you cannot use the
newer Squeezebox products as IR blasters. While Mote was written with
the Classic in mind, it can control any ethernet-enabled device which
uses the TCP, UDP, HTTP, or HTTPS protocols (Squeezebox Center uses TCP
for its Command Line Interface, HTTP for URL commands, and UDP for its
xPL interface).

Re: [slim] How do I now add Radio Stations to Favourites?

2010-07-13 Thread toby10

I'm assuming you were navigating the menu's on the SB3 to find a stream
then play it.
Ex: Internet Radio > Music > Internet Only > 181.fm > Chill 181.fm
(station) > *play*
When your SB3 displays Now Playing "Chill 181.fm" you can then arrow
BACK to the previous menu you were in prior to pressing Play.
So arrow BACK from Now Playing should place you back on the Chill
181.fm menu item, now arrow RIGHT to select as a Favorite.

This should work as long as your Screensaver setting is not Jump To Now
Playing.

Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?

2010-07-13 Thread JonWill

Attached picture explains two things - (i) why my CDs are now neatly
alphabeticised on shelves in a cupboar out of sight and (ii) why I
finally took the plunge and got a Squeezebox set up.

Haven't looked back since!

Re: [slim] Need Help

2010-07-13 Thread toby10

Part of the problem is few people (I'd guess) leave the Boom menu's as
they came from the factory.
Most users likely customize these menu's (add, delete, reorganize) to
one's liking and preferences.
So my Boom's menu structure is likely very different than the Boom you
are inquiring about. :(

Didn't know about pressing and holding the favourites button. Not sure I
understand the second option? What menu is the stream displayed in other
than now playing?

Re: [slim] Need Help

2010-07-13 Thread HeavyB

There is no single main menu as it varies according to one's preferences
and can be manipulated to suit your needs.

My main menu for instance consists of:
Now Playing
Music Folder
My squeezebox.com
Play lists
Favorites

The main menu for squeezebox.com is set to:
Now Playing
Favorites
Internet Radio
Podcast Player
My Apps
Settings
Connect to Squeezebox Server

Re: [slim] How do I now add Radio Stations to Favourites?

2010-07-13 Thread toby10

Currently using arrow RIGHT to select the Now Playing stream as a
Favorite is not working (they should bring this back).

Two ways to do so using the IR remote with an SB3:
1. press & hold the Favorites button, adds stream to Favorites
2. arrow BACK (left) to the stream title within the menu's, now arrow
RIGHT, Add to Favorites will be offered

No, on the classic the + key just adds whatever is selected to the
playlist.

I don't use my infrared remotes much any more, but try the "+" key. That
_may_ bring up a context menu, from which "add to favorites" may be an
option.

Hadn't thought of that, I'll give it a go, and hope on the meantime they
bring back the old menu.

Not very helpful I'm afraid, but just to let you know that I share your
problem. I invariably find it easier to head for the PC and do it
through the web interface. I wish you better luck - hopefully someone
can help out!

Could you please list the correct menu listing (as I do not have a
Boom) and please as fast as possible, as this is urgent.

Thank you very much,

[slim] How do I now add Radio Stations to Favourites?

2010-07-13 Thread hp1

Hi All,

I have a Squeezbox 3 (classic?. I updated squeezebox server a few
weeks ago and have discovered that in the update that they have
implemented a change to the the menus in Internet Radio. Before it was
great, I use to search radio stations using an app on my Android phone
and if I liked them I could then add them to my favourites by hitting
the right key on my remote and 'add to favourites'. It was the same if
I wanted to post what radio station I was listening to on Facebook,
just hit the right key and scroll to the Facebook option.

For some reason which I cant fathom the new 'Radiotime' menu has
removed these options and added options which, for me are useless. Even
worse I cant now figure out how to add radio stations to my favourites.
Is it possible to get rid of this awful Radiotime menu or perhaps
someone can inform me how to add Radio Stations to favourites with the
remote (while they are playing).

cheers

It's a big job if you want to do it right and there are a licensing
issues standing in the way of doing the simple solutions (porting
SqueezeSlave or SoftSqueeze).

However, there are two players out there for iPhone and I hope that
with iOS4 and Multitasking it will be possible to use them in the
background with iPeng (they lack a bit on the UI side). I use
SqueezeCast right now and it works quite well.

[slim] Android / Apple devices as a player

2010-07-13 Thread hunta

Without wishing to detract in the slightest from the great work achieved
already by, amongst others, flattermann on Android and pippin on Apple
devices, top of the list of requests is always (understandably) to
introduce functionality to allow the device to act as a player.

This post certainly isn't intended to niggle again and demand instant
releases to turn our phones into Squeezeboxes overnight. These guys are
already under enough pressure from a justly grateful customer base.

I do genuinely wonder though why it's not been done yet by any of the
Apple or Android developers (not just pippin or flattermann), given
that it must be the number one feature being requested and would
without doubt make an offering stand above its competitors. Is there
something specific which makes it difficult to implement, or is it
simply (and quite understandably if so) a big job and therefore not
undertaken lightly?
