Re: [slim] Hail Mary time for Logitech with its Google TV?
well, its all new so i think there is but i don't know all the details yet. i'll report back when i know more. its not just a safety/neighborhood watch app, but its hard to describe what it is beyond that. its local civic awareness too, like report a leaky fire hydrant or pothole, but more than just that... hard to describe, and still new, so it will expand. i think it could really be useful inside a big city, in a crime riddled area, b/c you could have info in real time, about drug deals, shootings, etc... and even make reports anonymous so people could upload pics/vids, which would make it so that the police couldn't deny such and such was happening. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 sbc (my home) / sbrec ipeng (parents' home) - sbs 7.5.2b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - p4(ht) 3.2ghz, 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 - 45k+ mp3 ::VOTE FOR 'BUG 15604' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15604)!!!:: MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82366 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Anyway, I looked at the slimdevices wiki. I'm sorry but this is a no go. I'm an IT consultant and music lover. But when I read the wiki I think this is for the tech-savvy only. We need two plug-ins, repositories and are faced with multiple downloads. How should I install this stuff on my Synology NAS (with flipflip's SSODS)? Shall I just put the files in a folder with SSH (putty)? The same goes for my former request about 'MusicIP' (or if you like the 'Genius' mixes on any iPod, which is less Genius than MusicIP, but okay, we can't have it all :-)). You almost have to be a programmer to have the MusicIP service run on a Windows PC / server, let alone on a unix device (and for my Synology NAS I have no clue). So, I hope both the people behind SqueezeCenter, as well as developers like you can help to make features like this available for the vast majority of music lovers. Re: [slim] squeezebox keeps randomly re-booting
I have two Squeezeboxes which I believe are SB3s. One of these acts as a wired to wireless bridge between the wired LAN that has the NAS running Squeezebox Server on it and the wireless LAN with the other squeezeboxes. As noted in another post I am having some trouble with the wireless access point getting into a funny state, often triggered by using the squeezeboxes, particularly several squeezeboxes at once, synchronised. When the squeezebox acting as a bridge has lost contact with the wireless access point, cycling the power on the squeezebox can cause it to go into a kind of loop where it tries to associate with the wireless access point, fails, and then seems to reset itself (the Logitech logo reappears) then the whole thing repeats. There have been other odd occasions when this squeezebox has randomly reset though this is rare. As I have two of these I have tried swapping the squeezebox itself and the power supply independently and the one that resets is always the one acting as a bridge. I wonder if the random resets are actually due to firmware bugs with either a software exception mechanism or a hardware watchdog timer performing the reset. -- Fozzy Fozzy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83507 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, I have indeed been a victim of crime. Luckily not a home break in. But no app would have helped me. I do get the whole civil awareness idea, sounds neat. But, quite honestly, I would never want to be bothered with it. I would no sooner be interested in being informed of someone getting their garbage can stolen two blocks away than I care to be informed of a coming thunderstorm plastered all over my TV. If I have a picnic planned or a motorcycle ride that day I'll do my own due diligence and check the weather myself, rather than bother others who have no such weather concerns. For the same reasons I am not on Twitter nor FaceBook, it all seems a bit silly to me. After so many alerts on everyone's connected devices they will simply be ignored. When was the last time you investigated why a car alarm was going off in a parking lot? For *me* it just seems like information overload. In great part, not talking to ones neighbors has a lot to do with the very technology you are promoting. Funny, I don't buy into such technology yet I know all of my neighbors, and they know me. ;) There was no argument offered for my not wearing seat belts anything like who needs them, nor am I attempting to sway opinions about their use. It is simply a personal choice, my choice, nothing more. And I don't need a Twitter message, nor a seat belt alarm, nor my mother, nor an app to inform me of the increased risk I am taking by not wearing it. I still love ya Mr. Sinatra, and your music. :) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82366 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Well, I guess it could have come across that way, if so, my bad. It was meant more as a commentary on me not needing nanny to tell me to buckle up as I know and accept the risks. Just as I don't need nanny to tell me it is going to snow in January, or that jumping out of airplanes is inherently dangerous, etc.. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82366 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

pippin;591456 Wrote: I think there will not be a lot of differences on Pandora. iPeng will show bigger images of artist and stations and it does have shortcut buttons on the home screen and the screen saver for like and ban. I believe these are the only differences. I'm not sure right now but there might be a Pandora screen shot on penguinlovesmusic.de So both have like and ban or just iPeng as I would like to have that feature and does it have it for Slacker Radio as well? Also can they both stream them from mysqueeze.com or does the server have to be running on the PC/MAC at all times? -- digitalknight digitalknight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21523 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83112 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPeng vs. SqueezePad
Both have the love and ban feature but only iPeng has dedicated buttons for it, in SqueezePad you have to go through the context menu. Both work with MySB. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83112 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] controlling squeezebox/slimserver from my own app
Hi, seems to me we are working on very similar projects... I've builded up a PERL/JAVA application to grab info and tags from music files, musicbrainz and other services on the web, store it on a DB , then organize and browse the entire collection and feed SBS (I'm using WAV and CUE files, but is the same for other file format). As you Know, this could be a very time consuming job with classical music, and the applications I've tried did not help much (and a lot of them don't support wave and cue properly), so I've builded mine that is focused on this matter, provviding some 'smart' functionality. I don't want to build a new server nor a player, but I would like to add just some 'basic' functionality like 'play', but I've no idea in how to do it. If You want we could share what we did and 'merge' the projects. Let me know your mind, please.
