Re: [slim] Android Controller App
erland;621578 Wrote: I'm pretty sure that's always going to be the case as long as the third party offering exists, Logitech will limit themselves to the basic functionality because they aren't ready to invest enough to maintain all the extras, so third party solutions will always offer something more. We have seen exactly the same thing earlier with SlimScrobbler plugin and also with Spotify plugin. The issue, as already mentioned earlier in this thread, is that some users are going to be satisfied with the basics and won't buy the third party offering when they can get the basics for free from Logitech. The result on longer terms could be that third party developers no longer feel that it's worth to compete with Logitech since a significant part of their income probably comes from the users that deside to use the Logitech provided solution. So, even though a Logitech provided Android app might feel like a good idea, I am a bit worried about the consequences on longer terms. Hopefully I'm just unnecessary worried, but... It would feel a lot better if Logitech tried to work together with third parties instead of competing with them since they both want the same thing, more Squeezebox customers. I agree completely. The way I see it though there'll always be a distinguishing feature - Logitech are never going to introduce native playback into a free app while their meat and potatoes is selling hardware players and the server software is also free. Therefore anyone who isn't Logitech and is interested in developing a rival product MUST have that feature if they want to charge for their offering. If that's the case then I think, as consumers, we have the best of both worlds - a free official controller, or quality, paid, added-functionality third party players. I just hope Logitech aren't going to take moves to prevent that happening. -- hunta hunta's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=333 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86487 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] 2 Simultaneous SB streams
On the other hand you could play the same stream in those additional zones with just the SB3. The only catch is that often AVR/amps limit zone playback to only analog inputs, so using the SB3 you would have your main listening area via digital out and zone 1 via analog out. If your AVR/amp allows digital input for zone playback you would then have three listening areas (main + zone 1 + zone 2) using the SB3's three outputs (two digital, one analog). -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Time for a speculation thread...
Couple of things from me 1) Touch 2 Has been mentioned numerous times before, one of two options - Upgraded CPU/memory etc. so that full server can be ran on device and enabling USB HDD plugin to be successfull for all, I think this has the potential to be a great feature as TinySBS has been well received by a lot of people - Integrated Touch with ripping solution, someone mentioned before but a one stop box that rips/tags CD's and then acts as a player, this would fully remove the 'server' element which confuses the masses. Potentially like a Brennan JB7/vortexbox mixed with a SB Touch 2) Smart streaming An update to the OS so that it brings in an element of 'smart' decisioning on your music libraries - Links Spotify, LastFM etc. with your local music more effectively - Provides recommendations up front on new music or if an artist you have in your collection releases a new album, again linking lastFM, spotify etc. to your local music - Download sync - You can easily download from Amazon, HDTracks etc. into your SB via on screen rather then having to go onto seperate pc, this would be powerful if you linked with recommendations This could be a feature that you can turn on or off as required -- socistep socistep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18860 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85982 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SB2/SB3: firmware on mysb.com != firmware on 7.5.3 release?
I don't use mysb.com much, but lately I have been switching between mysb.com and local SBS for various reasons. My local SBS is the release version of 7.5.3, but whenever I switch between mysb and SBS my SB2s and SB3 go through a firmware upgrade/downgrade. Is there new fw for these players that is only on mysb? If so, is it the same as 7.5.4? Fyi, the fw of these players when on SBS is 133; I haven't looked to see the fw version reported when on mysb. Yep, there's a mismatch. See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=620486postcount=44 If your SB2/SB3 is set to not update FW automatically the display will be blank if you connect to MySB with the older FW which some has interpreted as the unit being broken. -- alfista alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86669 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Amazon Cloud Player
So this is basically like MP3tunes? I'm not sure I understand the point. If your going to stream from the cloud, why limit yourself to your own collection and not use Spotifiy/Napster/Rhapsody? It's basically the same as MP3tunes with less format support and no available API. Playing music from the Amazon cloud makes a lot of sense to me. There are times when I'd like to listen to an album that I own but don't want the hassle of going and waking up the computer so the Boom can stream from it. [slim] Squeezebox Radio shows splitting some albums into two albums
Noob here. 1st question: Is there a detailed manual anywhere for setup of the Squeezebox Radio? The manual that comes with the radio does not go into real detail of any of the Radio settings. And is pretty useless for information regarding the Squeezebox server. Im getting tired of fumbling around with my setup. 2nd questions and more important. I have an issue where when I display a listing of my mp3 albums on the radio it shows duplicates. The first album will have 1 or 2 songs. The second album will have the remainder of the songs. How do I get Squeeze box to show only one album with all the songs? Most of the MP3 tags for my collection were made through Media Monkey or Windows Media Player. I tried moving my Playlist folder outside of the Music Source directory. Ive removed my playlist folder from the Music Source configuration in Squeezebox Server. Ive done a cleanup clearing cache, clearing the library and rescanning library, powered off/on the Radio, but I still get some albums showing twice as described above. HELP!! My configuration is: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 Squeezebox Server Version: 7.5.3 - r31792 Squeezebox Radio Player Model: Squeezebox Radio Firmware: 7.5.3-r9283 Thanks in advanced -- markmi300 markmi300's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44810 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86680 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Like a wake on LAN setting? Interesting. Will look into this--thank you. Wake on LAN turns my computer on from a cold shutdown (not sleep mode). In fact, this is how I turn my computer on most mornings. Not like but WOL, but WOL, pure and simple. And there's no setting, other than the power button on the Boom (or the Boom's remote). I was hoping it would be a little like dropbox, or well integrated into iTunes so when you start your PC up the program syncs your selected songs in the background but the program is awful. It also appears that MP3tunes may be on it's way out of existence.
