Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-11-10 Thread coppo23

Has anyone got this working?

I use squeezedroid and also squeezecontroller - both work happily via
connect bot or locally. I bought squeezeplayer and it works well
locally but will not connect at all via connectbot. This is on galaxy
s2. The squeezeplayer settings are 127.0.0.1 and port 9000 - as for
squeezedroid - but no joy. It won't connect automatically either - I
presume the method of sensing a server used by squeezeplayer doesn't
work for localhost.

Am I being an idiot and missing something obvious?

Thanks

Re: [slim] Transporter Problem

2011-11-10 Thread Squeezed_Rotel

And in two years of operation, I have never had to do a reset of any
kind.
I wonder if it could be firmware related. By that I mean that I run the
older SC 7.3.4 and I think firmware 54. Maybe this is a contributing
factor.

BTW, when I say disconnected from mains each night, I mean that it is
shut down via the APC power supply feeding power to it (the
Transporter), so I assume that this is the same as unplugged each
night.

I had tried this once before, but it requires a wired LAN connection,
and I tried that with my Boom and was unable to get it to work. It
then took way too long to get it to connect again wireless, so I didn't
want to disconnect the Receiver and bring it to the router and fight
with it, remembering how long it took to get it working with this 2WIRE
router in the first place. Sorry.

Both players stay connected most of the time, so it's not that big a
deal. The SBR tends to go blue when I want to show it off, but that's
about right around here!

The weird thing about the Boom is that when it loses its connection to
msb.com all I have to do is turn the Controller on, and when it boots
up to the menu the Boom reconnects automatically, even if the
Controller is set to the SBR at the time. So I just keep it by the
bed, and when I wake up in the middle of the night and see all of the
the Boom panel lights on instead of just the power light, I just power
cycle the Controller and all is good.

As well, the Samsung Moment was discontinued by Sprint at least a year
ago (at Android 2.1) and most of us are looking forward to replacing
them, so you probably don't have much of a user base on this phone,
anyway. Thanks, again, for the great app, though.

It does only require a wired LAN connection for the *initial* setup.

If you have an unconnected player (e.g. Receiver LED=blue), it should
also be found by SqueezeConfig via Wifi.

But if you already tried it, it will probably still not work with your

fuzzyT;668492 Wrote:
Still gathering details. Blog post here:

I tried it out last night. I've had Rhapsody for some years, so that's
the comparison I have. Main differences:

1. The sound quality is supposed to be better, at 320kbps vs. 192kbps,
right? I think it was, but it was subtle enough that I couldn't swear
that I'd pass a blind test. Slight win MOG.

2. The MOG Squeezebox UI is painfully bad compared to Rhapsody's.
There's no way to do arbitrary browsing through genres (Rhapsody's
genre browsing along with its key artists, top tracks, etc., make music
discovery really great). Adding stuff to your favorites is only
possible on an album (never a track) level, and not even consistently
then.

2a. Your favorites/library behaves really weirdly: If you add an
entire album to it, when you go in to view individual tracks, you don't
see the songs from that album at all. But on the other hand, if you add
an individual track from an album and go into the album view, you see
its album but clicking on it gives you ALL the songs from that album.
There's no way to see all the songs that you've chosen, and just the
songs that you've chosen.

3. If you don't need mobile (phone) access, MOG is $5/month versus
Rhapsody's $10/month. If you do want that, they're the same price at
$10/month. (Rhapsody doesn't have a no-mobile plan.)

Upshot for me is that I'm cheap enough to probably go with MOG over
Rhapsody for half the price, but if you want to use the mobile
capabilities, Rhapsody is much better from a Squeezebox perspective, so
I'd recommend that.

You can try and copy a file between two PCs either side of the wireless

200Mbps HomePlugs instead of a wireless bridge or get some cheap
Wireless N routers (e.g. D-Link DIR-615) and flashing them with DD-WRT

all we ever hear about nowadays is streaming music, music from the

mainstream commercial trends in music and computers. It would be
foolish for Logitech to abandon the market share it has rather than try

 3. They put the Squeezebox on the shelf on my local electronics store
 4. They have signed deals with a number of streaming services and

 5. They continued to take the costs to keep running this forum and the

 6. They released the two Squeezebox models with best potential so far
 (Touch and Radio)

I think these are very good points too - Logitech did a lot of good for
the squeezebox. Not only did they put the squeezebox on the shelf in
local retailers, they put it in the general marketplace where pricing
wasn't fixed and bargins could be found via promotions and coupons.

My fear is that the squeezebox lineup falls victim of some massive cost
cutting initiative within Logitech to boost the bottom line.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-11-10 Thread maxtrash

Regarding controlling the recevier volume from squeezepad: this is
something I would like too!
I think this should be achieved using a generic solution involving
middleware. Eventghost comes to mind here. Controlling the volume from
eventghost is no problem at all, depending on the hardware involved. I
for instance have a serial cable between the pc and my Marantz receiver
but a million other ways are possible.
The only thing needed is the ability for Eventghost to capture the
volume-up and volume-down events coming from Squeezepad.
This could be achieved in many ways, e.g. Squeezepad sending
UDP-packets for each and every event happening in the application. Some
other way might be that eventghost listens to the network communication
that is going on between Squeezepad anyway. Not sure if that's possible

I have had Spotify since it first came to the US. I love it but don't
much care for the antiquated UI. So I signed up for a MOG trial. The UI
on the web is much nicer. But using my Touch it is pretty much the same
- rather lame. Ease of search is the single most important factor for
me.

I ran a sound comparison between Spotify and MOG. The song I picked
happened to be only 280 kbps on MOG but 320 on Spotify. Using my Touch
and my Apogee mini DAC I couldn't pick up a difference with any
certainty at all. I could fool myself easily enough. We all can and do
that all the time. But once I forced myself to apply my best scientific
discipline I had to admit I couldn't tell the difference.

I need to compare content next. That will be the deciding factor.

Controlling a receiver from SqueezePad is much easier.
In the past people did that with the IRBlaster Plugin (see here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/IRBlaster), but that isn't
supported on the newer Squeezebox devices anymore.

Anyway: the IRBlaster plugin captures the volume up/down signals from
the remotes.
It would be a great start for coding, to do whatever else (other than
blasting IR signals) wants to achieve.

release year in the directory or file name. In this case it should be a
fairly easy task for Mp3tag to pick it up and write the appropriate
tag.

Otherwise you would need some kind of online lookup. MusicBrainz Picard
can do that (dragdrop the files onto the left pane, click lookup),
but of course only if the album is already in the MusicBrainz database.
If you want to set -only- the year it would probably require some Picard
scripting so that it doesn't overwrite your existing tags.

[slim] Can not find files on Ready Nas boxes

2011-11-10 Thread travitz

My coumpter died and I had to reinstall all my software. I have three
Ready nas Boxes NV+. On old computer I created a folder with three
short cuts to the boxes and pointed the Squezze box to the folder. I
did that and I still can not read files on the three boxes. I cleared
liberay and then rescanned it. It was done in no time I think it only
scanned ITUNES? Any ideas how to set up computer and squezze box so i
can reach all the folders on the three boxes from my squeeze box?

As RG said, you can add single songs from the track level context menu.
This also gives you options to bookmark the album or artist. But yeah,
Rhapsody it is easier because you don't have to drill down to track
level for every option.

mkozlows;668947 Wrote:

Upshot for me is that I'm cheap enough to probably go with MOG over
Rhapsody for half the price, but if you want to use the mobile

 I'd recommend that.

I'm gonna give it a little more time, and I still need to compare
content, but I am leaning toward sticking with Rhapsody. Lack of
browsing by genre is the whole reason I switched to Rhapsody after
trying Spotify (my first on-demand music service experience). I also
prefer how Rhapsody separates Singles and EPs from full-length albums.
When you browse albums in MOG you can't tell if it's a single until you
click into it and see only one song.

Really, my only complaint about Rhapsody is that the service overall
does not support scrobbling, and when played through Squeezebox,
Rhapsody channels are not scrobbled. If I do stick with Rhapsody I will
likely add a paid subscription to either Last.fm or Slacker Basic to
have a better radio option.

I gave it a try.no problem with getting it up and running---sort of.
I liked the sound quality, but it was completely unusable for me. I
experienced constant rebuffering which I suspect might have been due to
the combination of the high bit rate and my lowly DSL connection. So,
unfortunately, I had to cancel the free trial after just a couple of
days.

I don't experience any problems with Pandora, Sky, etc. Every once in a
while I get a little bout of rebuffering w/Rhapsody, but it's infrequent
and when it does occur, it's typically around early evening/peak usage
times. Too bad, I was kinda' hoping MOG would work out...

Re: [slim] auto populate year tag info

2011-11-10 Thread Mnyb

Puddletag ( linux ) can easilly be setup to retrive only years for
example.

But the online databases are not always to be trusted they are often
wrong and sometimes i disagree with correct info .

I prefer the original release year of the recording for example an old
recording originally done before digital.

Led Zeppelin 1 I want the year to be 1969 , not whenever one of the
numerous cd versions was released.
But in the best case these online databases report the cd release
year.
I have not experimented with multiple year tags or a tag separator ,
that would be an aproach with multiple remaster. There is an origyear
tag ? How well suported is that one ?

So to fit personal prefs some hands on jobb is needed anyway, my
aproach to year is a historical timeline of when the music was made not
when they printed my copy , but thats often the only thing you get from
the cd case . Amg or wikipedia can have info .

What did I just say ? There is no way to *really* automate tagging, but
you can do it anyway but be preperad to accept some anomalies and
errors. Automating years would give very little music before 1985-1990
Have in mind that most of the content of these dB's is uploaded by
other amateur users.
