michel;698290 Wrote: Personally, I think the retina display's resolution is just unnecessary. Have you actually seen it and used it? And especially: have you seen the old one? The original iPad's display probably was the lowest resolution display still around (except for TVs, which you view from a distance). It might not be the most important thing for images or music Apps but for reading long texts, the original iPad display was close to unacceptable and very tiring. Even the retina display still holds potential and is not as good as, say, the original Kindle. The iPad is thought to be used - among other things - for written media and actually there's a lot of use in that area and I believe to really be an alternative to printed media the new iPad's display is pretty much the minimum you need. We are still a factor of 2-3 away from print and even the iPhone (and other modern phones) have a higher resolution and you don't do as much reading on them. Same as we are still seeing with meegapixels in digital cameras. That's a very different story. These higher pixel densities are in areas where the sensor noise made actual improvements impossible even a few generations ago. High resolution camera sensors generate images that produce up to 20 times the number of pixels the iPad shows. What resolution of cover art will you use in the future? The same as in the past: the biggest one I can get hold of. Probably cover art soon will rival flac files in size! Re: [slim] logitech ue air speaker
Has anyone listened to it to compare the audio quality with for example a Boom ? I'm not sure these docking station/AirPlay based speakers is that bad from a user perspective. Combined with the right iOS app they could probably be an excellent solution, especially if you combine them with a docked iOS device. At the moment, the offering Logitech has on the Squeezebox line which would compete with it is a mono based Radio or a more expensive Touch+active speakers, so I'm not sure Squeezebox line offers anything better at the moment if you want me to be honest. However, the price on Logitech UE Air Speaker seems to be a bit high IMHO. I'm also not impressed by the design, might look stylish at first, but I can't really think of a place where I would like to have something like this in my home. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets (both free and commercial)' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). pski;698449 Wrote: erland, mono speaker(s) in the Radio are not a concern. how does the Radio do on analog line-out? Why would I need an analog line-out on a player with built-in speakers ? I can understand the need for using headphones, but the Radio has a headphone output. Or did you think about combining a Radio with active stereo speakers to get a cheaper, but possibly more bulky, solution than the UE Air speaker ? Even though that's certainly an option for geeks, I doubt many normal users would get a Radio and add active speakers to it when it already have a built-in speaker. Even if they would consider this an option, most of them wouldn't even realize it could be done because it's certainly not something that's advertized much from Logitech's side. People that know they want stereo would purchase the Touch from Logitech today and when looking at the standard Logitech prices this gets more expensive compared to getting the UE Air speaker. On the other hand, an analog line-in, or even better AirPlay or iOS dockingstation, would be a lot more important because it means I can play the music me or my friends have on our smart phones, this is one area where the UE Air speaker have a huge advantage, assuming its audio quality is at least as good as the Radio. Of course, we all know that Squeezeboxes have a big advantage as soon as your music isn't stored on your mobile device but stored on a central computer in the house, but as I've said in other threads, people today are getting rid of their stationary computers when they get a new one. So the obvious place to run SBS/LMS, is getting less and less obvious for most people when they replace their stationary computer with a WiFi connected laptop which is sleeping in a bag or another room most of the time when they want to listen to music. It's also important to remember that it's going to get more and more common that people more or less only use streaming services, like Rhapsody and Spotify or internet radio, and this removes the need for SBS/LMS. So then the part that's missing in the Squeezebox line to compete with UE Air is a player that supports stereo through built-in speakers. The Radio is perfect in rooms where you don't need stereo and there is no way the UE Air can compete with a Radio in this scenario, unless the user primarily want to play music which is stored on his/hers mobile phone, which is getting more and more common normal people today, I think. The Boom was also perfect, especially since I think it's smaller than UE Air, but the Boom isn't sold by Logitech anymore. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets (both free and commercial)' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). Just asking because I'm currently using SqueezeScrobbler because it has more functionality (submits tag data). Should I switch to Audioscrobber and in that case why ? Regarding the different solutions: - LastFM: Really good if you want to keep track of what you are playing both on Squeezeboxes and other type of players, since many players support to submit to LastFM. - PlayLog: Really good if you just want to keep track of the playback history of your Squeezebox but don't have much need to browse it in various ways. - TrackStat: It's strengths shows when you either want to do more advanced browsing and explore your library like, browsing for Not Recently played artists or combine it with ratings and browse for Top Rated Not Recently Added Songs. The big advantage with TrackStat in my opinion is if you also have a need to use the statistics for smart playlists (using SQL Playlist/Dynamic Playlist plugins). I'm using them all in my own setup because I think they all have their own benefits. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets (both free and commercial)' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). Re: [slim] How to hide forum threads
All this kind of indicates that something is seriously wrong with either the moderation or the division into forum sections or managing of sticky threads. Just out of interest, what kind of threads do people feel a need to hide, any samples ? Are we talking about Audiophiles section or something else ? My issue is that if we are talking about the same threads as I think, I tend to actually want to read them sometimes because they sometimes changes topic during the way or amuse me when I've nothing else more important to do, sometimes if you just leave them alone for a few weeks and then go back when 15 more pages has been posted in the thread, the thread might have become interesting again. For me there are some forum sections which I never read, like Deutsch, Español and Français, is there any way to do something similar to hide a complete forum sections ? -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets (both free and commercial)' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland).
