Both the Muse and the Audio source fit tag bill perfectly. I'll see if I

Btw , just to clear up any confusion I meant a Logitech Receiver. By
using two wireless routers as wireless repeaters I've managed to
successfully extend my wireless network over a good proportion of my

2012-09-09 Thread Mnyb

 Hi

I'm having a weird problem using squeezecommander on my HTC Desire Z
 when connecting via 3G

I have a dyndns.org hostname, and I have configured my router to forward
port 9001 to my server correctly (I'm using port 9001 as I use 9000 for
 Twonky)

Now I can connect to the web interface on my phone, I can see what's
playing and control my player OK so it all seems to be working OK.
However the main music menu in Squeezecommander just never loads. I only
have search and settings as menu items. Clicking search will even
let me find and play music but the other menus (artists etc) never load.
The now playing views and control of my player also works OK. I just
 can't browse music.

My server shows twice in the list of servers, once for my Dyndns address
and once for the local IP address. When connected via WiFi the dyndns
entry shows as a duplicate and I get a message already connected to the
server! Please us the local server Joggler Music

I tried ignoring the local server and then connnecting to the Dyndns
server and weirdly I am unable to connect to the Dyndns entry when I am
connected to my local network. I get an error message flash up of
 java.net.ConnectException: mydyndnsname.dyndns.org/176.xxx.xxx.xxx:9001
 - Connection refused
the x's in that message are my Internet IP address and the mydyndnsname
is my host name. Turning off WiFi let's me connect fine to this server.

I've tried the open source squeezer android app which although very
basic does let me control and browse no problem connecting via dyndns so
 altogether I'm a little confused.

Does it need more ports LMS also uses port 3483 udp and tcp ,possibly
also the CLI port 9090 or 9092 ? I'm not exactly sure .

they are not necessarily targeting SBs. When they initially purchased
SB, they sold the high end transporter, etc. It wasn't until later in
time that the SB line started suffering. We'll have to wait and see how
they deal with the higher-end UE headphone market (as they may mess it
up as well). Although, at least with headphones, they won't have the
support headache of trying to explain mysb.com vs LMS, networks, network
problems (majority of new SB user issues it turns outand completely
unrelated to the SqueezeBox itself!).

It goes both ways, payback is only better if your predictions are
correct, the loss could be a lot larger in the stock market if your
predictions are wrong. ;-)

However, I agree with your main point, trying to predict what Logitech
is going to do isn't well invested time at the moment.
It's a lot better to spend the time enjoying some music on the

Based on other posts on people trying to get out of warranty items
repaired or replaced, I'd say No on the duet. For the touch, maybe. I
suspect they don't repair anything. They can replace if they have a
stock of replacement TOUCH units. Otherwise, I've seen examples of
Logitech simply offering a coupon good for purchase of other logitech
products. As with a lot of consumer electronics these days, the
Squeezebox players (other than the Transporter) are relatively
inexpensive units that are rarely worthy of repair by the company.
Even the laptops my employer purchases are treated as almost throwaway
items these days (not much different than purchasing pens and pencils
and ink cartridgesjust something that will be used up and replaced
when needed).

For myself, I've simply stocked up on a few backup TOUCH and RADIO units
to use should something go out in the next few years. And this is
actually highly unlikely, as there is not much to go wrong with a TOUCH
or RADIO, short of my house burning down, electrical storm, etc.

All Squeezeboxes load their firmware from LMS if you have connected them
to a LMS server.

So all Squeezeboxes will be possible to load an old firmware version by
putting the firmware files in the correct LMS directory and then do a
firmware update, the difference is just that for
Boom/Classic/Receiver/Transporter the firmware is distributed in the LMS
installation package while for the Touch/Radio/Controller LMS retrieves
the firmware in runtime from mysqueezebox.com if they aren't available
in the LMS firmware update directory already.

The issue people are worried about is that when you do a factory reset
on a Touch(and maybe Radio) they will ask you to login/create a
mysqueezebox.com user in the beginning, but it's possible to skip this
dialog so it's not a big issue IMHO.

No, I think the duet is just as reliable at the TOUCH (maybe more so, as
there is no screen to go out). My point was that the duet receiver has
been discontinued for several years (so none would exist in inventory
for replacement). The TOUCH is still being sold by Amazon, and until a

First of all, why worry about something that haven't happen ?

Are you sure it's a good idea to by more equipment from a manufacturer
who have just shutdown the product, wouldn't that just make it harder to
switch to the company that's eventually going to fill the hole Logitech
has left with some new exciting product ?

Neither Touch nor Duet is likely to be repaired or replaced if they
break a year in the future, because by then there will be no
replacements remaining and it will likely cost more to repair it than
just give you the money back.

Finally, if the worst thing happens, you can always get a iOS/Android
device and a suitable docking station and use one of the third party
Squeezebox player apps available, for example iPeng on iOS or
SqueezePlayer on Android.

 in inventory.

The controller is the most likely part to fail , but receiver is less
complicated so it may last longer . Controller can be replaced by an app
, Receiver can be configured with the net::udap script if you change
your network and has no working controller .
In fact that would be a good thing the force you to mysqueezebox.com
stuff is located in the controller anyway .

Was that a slam on us older folks with hearing aids? Or is it because
Phonak hearing aids are one of the more geeky ones that users can do
their own programming for if they want to? Or are you saying that since
us older folk with hearing aids bought into Squeezebox we'd probably buy
Phonak if Logitech bought Phonak? ;-)

I use a class t-amp from think geek (omni products, dayton ) in my
garage with a receiver as a source.
Simple on off and volume, even battery power (!?)
It works and takes up minimal room ( 5X5X2). Must use efficient
speakers.

Re: [slim] Forseeing the future of mysb.com, squeezeboxes, etc.

2012-09-09 Thread castalla

I haven't tried the UE up/downgrade route ... but from what I've read
understand the UE Radio route seems a smart move by Logi. It seems
they've simplified the user experience, both in terms of getting up and
running and use. This just reflects the reality of the general user
ecosystem - people just want to buy a box, plug it in and use it -
without hours of configuration and geeky tweeking!

So far, internet radios are just too geek focussed to become a general
consumer item - believe me, some users still think the FM frequency of a
station has some role to play.

Of course, the enthusiasts are going to see this move as treachery ...
but as long as Logi keep mysb.com running, then why complain about a new
product line?

On the other hand, I do generally belong to the 'If it ain't broke, dont
fix it' tendency. However, I'll recommend the UE Radio as a viable
option for others wishing to switch from other internet radio services.
If it works as well as the current Radio, or maybe better, then it's a
runner in my book.

[slim] Agh! When did this (end of SqueezeBox) start??

2012-09-09 Thread lambono

Ok,
So I haven't been on these forums in ages...
I came back and it seems everyone is talking about the start of the end,
and it looks like the standard squeezebox devices have disappeared from
the logitech website!

What is going on!

I really like my squeezebox classic and love all the community plugins
that have been created for it.

Is this really the beginning of the end? When did logitech decide to
move away for the squeezebox/touch devices?

It was announced 8/29. Or rather, LogitechUE was announced. The only
mention of Squeezebox was the statement that the company would still
support LMS and mysb.com. They have retained the Radio, although the new
software focuses on ease of use vs flexibility/functionality.

Remains to be seen. Yes they've discontinued production of the SB stuff,
but let's be honest, that happens to all consumer electronic products at
one point or other and is a perfectly normal event in any market. What
makes a difference is the way they will support the product after this
point. Will there be support for installing LMS on upcoming OS versions
(at least the next increment)? Will Logitech keep support for online
music services running on MySB (fix stuff when the services change their
API).

Re: [slim] Audible books on squeezebox?

2012-09-09 Thread w3wilkes

If the audio book is on CD you can just rip it like any other CD and
play it back through your Squeezebox player from your Squeezebox server
(LMS). If your audio book is already a MP3 you can just put it in your
current Squeezebox server folder, scan for new and updated and then play
it back through your Squeezebox. It all depends on the original format
of your audio book, but there's almost always a way to get it into your
Squeezebox system.
