Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2
On the inside it's the same as an SB3, so if you're okay with the form factor (sometimes compared to a 1970s era clock radio), it's as good as an SB3/Classic. And it fits in a wider variety of spaces. I have two SB2s in my collection and think they're great. Be sure to confirm it's really an SB2. There have been several cases of eBay sellers and others selling SBs (aka SB1s) as SB2s. The best way to be sure is to look at the sticker on the bottom, or have the seller send a photo. If it says Squeezebox2 then you're good. If it just says Squeezebox, then it's an SB1, which is inferior in some ways. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96399 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yeah, the promo picture is clearly an SB2, but that's no guarantee of what's in the box. I hope the seller responds with some clear proof for you. I was just browsing ebay, avoiding doing work, and was astonished at the number of SB Radios for sale. Used, refurbished, new, from many sellers, most of whom seem to have quite a lot of stock. Significant variance in price, with the cheapest refurbished at $107 (before shipping), cheapest new at $146. Highest is $219. I'm pretty sure the refurbished would be a satisfactory deal, as at least some sellers offer 14 day returns. Very few Touches, a few older (SB3) units. R. With two in-box new Touches and a stored Duet Receiver and a spare Boom, I'm not likely to need this thing. Just intriguing, and a good price. Re: [slim] Audible books on squeezebox?
For context, Audible is a company that sells audio books for various mobile platforms, i.e. iPhone, Android, Blackberry, as well as selected MP3 players. It seems the purchased books are downloaded to the device, and can be configured so that you can listen to a chapter, and then read the next chapter on the screen, etc. Nifty. It seems to require the presence of an app on the device, so even if you could break the DRM it is unlikely it would work functionally as a simple MP3 file. Their pricing model is interesting -- basically a subscription model with a base price of $15 (there is a starter special deal) which gives you one book a month, plus discounts on extra books. R. I always preferred the form factor of the SB2 to that of the SB3/Classic. Just maybe not as polished looking. Also, I have mine on top of a tall kitchen cabinet, lifted in the back, with the screen angled downward - something not quite as easily done with the SB3. I hope LOGITECH will not force me down that route. I am a LOGITECH/Squeezebox fan and I'd be VERY disappointed if the ecosystem would go away. VERY disappointed is an understatement. I just don't think LOGITECH would do that to its loyal customers. Thank you. Thank you. logitech LMS will never go away. We have that software and can install it on our own machines forevermore. Of course, if newer verisons of windows or OS, etc. won't run the old LMS, that's a different issue. Although one can always run an older server with an old version of win7 or Mac OS etc. The real issue is if mysqueezebox.com goes away or becomes unuseable because it doesn't keep up with changes in the services. For playing one's own local files, one doesn't need logitech or mysb.com. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96357 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Why Logitech SB is the best thing since sliced bread!
w3wilkes wrote: Was that a slam on us older folks with hearing aids? YOU DIDN'T HEAR THAT, DID YOU? Or is it because Phonak hearing aids are one of the more geeky ones that users can do their own programming for if they want to? Or are you saying that since us older folk with hearing aids bought into Squeezebox we'd probably buy Phonak if Logitech bought Phonak? ;-) Yes. :) I regret not buying the programmer for the Mrs.'s aid. It once got wet and reverted to factory settings, although since it was still whistling it must be working. Like the UE's, this is realtime sensory modification. With a little bit of imagination, Logitech could corner the market in mobile auditory experience. Your Logitech Ultimate Phonaks could cut out background noise, optimise for your surroundings, tailor your ambiance, eq to taste, and let you hear the sound of your own voice louder than everything else. With your LMS backend, there would be plugins available which allowed you to selectively filter out things you didn't like, such as politicians or management speaking... I'm physically unable to accept other people's terrible musical taste, especially interweb wireless, and absolutely must have access to my own collection 24/7. Which is why I use Logitech SB. :) pallfreeman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96300 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
