However, it was the single most confusing point in iPeng, there was a surprisingly high number of users who did not get this and thought it switches the shuffle mode or that it means you can't play a list straight. It was the single most complained-about UI element! We tried several variants to do a more conclusive UI for this and didn't find one that doesn't eat up too much space. Apple does it with a button, but we needed that space for the play mode and also Apple scrolls away the header which we didn't want because it gives you quick access to the album context menu. That's the "you can't make it right for everybody" case. At least: if you play the Album from the context menu, the shuffle mode will stay unchanged so it will still be on if it was before. > > If the volume is locked on a player (when using as a remote) please hide > the volume slider and move the transport controls down. > To show what instead? Also, could you please elaborate? I don't really understand what you mean by "you can't tell players apart" and "other people are completely lost" (the feedback I'm getting so far is overwhelmingly to the contrary) and I don't know what you mean by "grouping/delineation" at all. I'm happy to discuss this, but a "everything is crap, make it better, I'm not gonna tell you what I mean" level is not a discussion I'm getting into. This about as complex as a UI problem as they get so please if you want to discuss this, add suggestions. I do remember well the last ones I got from you, none of which was workable and all of which just focused on your personal use cases regarding everything other people used as "unnecessary". Re: [slim] iPeng, your iPhone Squeezebox Remote, gets even better with version 2.0!
How do you shuffle play an entire album? There's no shuffle mode when adding tracks to the current play list. If the volume is locked on a player (when using as a remote) please hide the volume slider and move the transport controls down. Please consider switching to larger transport buttons on black background the same way that Apple has in their music player. The multiplayer control is still about as confusing as it always was. I can barely tell players apart and other people who don't use iPeng are completely lost when they open that UI. There just isn't a decent grouping/delineation for each player and its associated controls. Better colors/border can improve it, but the best solution would need a refactoring of the UX/UI. Swiping left and right on the Now Playing screen should stop when it reaches the last screen on the right or left. The current wrapping is unexpected. I would also recommend moving the lyrics somewhere else. Having the current track in the middle screen means you can't swipe blindly to get back to it. See Fitts' Law. Consider offering a dark UI option - yes, you'll have to include dark versions of your button graphics. The light color is not to everyone's taste and can be a big distraction when operating the remote in a darker room. As a future update, consider support for LRC format lyrics and the ability to display the current position with the lyrics - bouncing-ball or karaoke style. Soundhound does this for songs it samples for instance. The amp choosing gets simpler then , if it can drive your speakers to good sound quality and have all the inputs and connectivity you need then it's your amp . It may be a traditional 2ch amp if you only got mostly analogue 2ch sources and don't have any center or surround speakers , If movies and a lot of hdmi equipped stuff is around then a HT receiver will be closer to the mark . A mistake one commonly makes is to go for amps with not enough inputs and other connectivity and options , how many times havent you heard friends complain that they run out of spdiff inputs on their HT amp ? (they cheaped out to save some 0.01$ and it comes back to bite them ) If it can separate pre and power stage even better . So speakers and source componets will narrow the choices . A stand alone DAC is out of place in this setup as you better feed the digital signal to the HT amp . Given the budget the DAC money is better spent on speakers Example a friend of mine has my old Dynaudio Contour 1.3SE and Contour Center driven by an HK home theater receiver (no subwoofer ) ,this works "OK" :) it can get more relaxed and refined with the best stuff ,but definitely functional . . You can hear that it is almost there sonically but struggles a bit at higher spl with those speakers then . I had an HK reciever a decade ago (for HT ) it would probably melt with those speakers So the breed is better than they used to be . Their strength is really that due the mass production of such amps you get a lot for the money even if only use 1/3 of what they have , and there is fierce price competition . To better them by a big margin there is separate pre and power amps that blow them away ,but the money involved is something else . I had a sort of "hybrid" system a 12 years ago a real pre-amp and a power amp a HT reciver on the side feeding the center and the surround speakers and front channels trough the pream.p CD player conected to the preampe DVD conected to the HT amp . In the end I had 3 power amps and the HT amp was only used via it's pre outs , but real 2ch was bupased using my preamp and CD player . The nice analog preamp (Sirius aka GamuT) and the HK ht reciver . was replaced by a Meridian HT processor to simplify and improve stuff + a DVDA player/dvd player from Meridian this also replaced my CD player , I had this until a power amp failure triggered me to go all in with Meridian :) a subwoofer also joined the party but i forgot when . Now the box count is up again there is blueray player beside my trusty old DVDA/DVD player ? The DVDA player can not yet go to the recycling bin , because I'm yet to find a way to stream discrete 5.1 24/96 FLAC (Squeezebox does not do it ) Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96780 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] DAC 101 Help Please!
Yep modern AV receivers are very good, things happened in the latest decade , the small signal processing is very good usually . The remaining weakness ,that would cost money to fix is the relatively weak power amps that don't work very well with all speakers . And then it is the space issue ( not money ) to,cram 7 good amps in to a relatively small, chassi . Wonder how many that during a blind test could tell the pre out from an av reciever ,from a very good standalone DAC . ( given a good technical design no NOS DAC bs for example ). The space issue may be fixed with the next generation of switch mode amps comes around , similar to the latest designs from NAD that is among the few that can hold the line against conventional amps ( most switch mode amps are not really up to it ). Re: [slim] DAC 101 Help Please!
I can not be sure but I would guess that the best option for sound quality would be to use the RCA SPDIF digital out from the Squeezebox in to one of the RCA digital inputs on the Denon AV Amp. This will mean that the Denon will do all of the digital conversion and then send that direct to the outputs on the Amp. While it is sometimes said that the on board dac in the squeeze is good my own experience is that it is not the best (given the price this is no great surprise) however the digital out with Flac files is excellent and feed this in to even a half decent Dac (which Denon will be) and you will get the best sound quality. If you then wish to set the output for direct / pure two channel or one of the AV settings such as Dolby II Music etc is entirely up to you. Try and give it a listen whichere you enjoy and prefer then use that. bencat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=54878 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96780 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Apart from the SBs in use (one SB 3, one SB Boom, one SB Radio and one SB Touch) I wont be buying any spare units. As much as I hate it, the Squeezebox product is dead since the manufacturer dropped it. If for some reason my Touch (the SB in the main listening area) would die premature then I still have the option of using iPeng as an SB replacement. I concither this route as my current backup plan if disaster happens in the short term. In the longer run, I hope that there will be a valid alternative product available. Besides the fact that I still like my current SB lineup, I dont believe that investing in a dead product line is a sensible thing to do. Technology is moving very fast these days. Who knows what new technology / product will be available in the future. There is a good chance that there will be something new that would make the current SBs look and feel aged. You must compare for yourself, properly, to decide which DAC sounds best to you. You may not hear much if any difference. Set Touch volume to 100% then volume match output to speakers for each input type for fair comparison. To use Direct mode you must use a pair of full range speakers (can't be a sub/sat system or you'll lose the low end). I'll stick with 16/44 for now and hope that there is enough interest in the future... I am just dreaming of a Squeezeserver/LMS attached Tablet connected to an external DAC replacing my broken (not yet :-)) Touches and Boxes... As long as there is now adequate UPnP or similar adequate solution for SbS/LMS I will stick to it no matter whether it will stay alive and supported... godIsInTheRadio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38966 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I have the opposite experience. Once they even called me back from Canada. I think the support for Harmony is excellent. No, I have nothing to do with Logitech. bernt's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96781 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Unfortunately Android before Jelly Bean does only support 16/44. With Jelly-Bean there is a completely new AudioAPI, which I guess is able to except higher audio rates - but I don't know yet, if it really forwards everything to an USB Dac (and I'm afraid this even depends on the particular device). In addition the market share of Jelly bean right now is 1,8%. The number of users then connecting an USB-Dac is even lower and those then using Squeezebox/SqueezePlayer I guess is about 10. So right now it doesn't look very promising to me, to already spend the time needed to implement a completely additional audio API. This doesn't mean I won't do it - but it's definitely not the right time yet for a single developer to already invest high volumes of development effort into such a topic. Are there actually other Apps already available who do support USB-Dacs with high resolution audio (and have user who can prove that it works) ? That would be at least a hint that it is possible at all (because I don't want to be the first one to try)? bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It is complete crap! Don't buy it. If you want something similar but way better, and with excellent support, then look at Redeye. It is a bit more expensive than Griffin but it are two different worlds. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Hi there, now that Android supports external USB DACs with JellyBean, would SqueezePlayer also use that output? If so, would it support more than 16bi/44.1kHz? And if so, what would I need to do on both the SqueezePlayer / Android site as well as the LMS site, as currently it is only streaming 16bit/44.1kHz to the Phone?` Any hint would be appreciated! godIsInTheRadio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38966 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
