Sorry to interject. This for info only.

Hi Pippin.
Hopefully you got my crash report but yesterday iPeng on iPhone 3GS
crashed again. The problem with changing the volume on a player seems to
have returned (if it ever truly left).

Re: [slim] Slim device not connected to squeezebox network

2012-12-07 Thread toby10

Yup, reset won't do it. What is probably happening is you are confusing
the SB3 because LMS on your computer is using your MySB account while
the SB3 is actually registered to a different MySB account. Two
accounts through one player will cause all kinds of goofy issues.

Get it properly connected to your MySB account, as gary suggests, then
try again.

Simple test: Connect SB3 directly to MySB.com (no LMS), get it playing.
Now log into MySB.com on your computer, go to Players, is the SB3
listed as connected?

I'm don't go thru LMS on my computer. I don't even have it loaded onto
my server. I just use SB to play internet radio...pandora, spotify. I
log onto MySB.com and I don't see it even listed even though my pandora
account has all of my stations. I just can't control it with mt
smartphone. I bought the other devices, 2 touches, 2 duets off eBay and
have no problem setting them up. After they asked for mysqueezebox
password then MySB.com on my computer recognizes it. The SQ V3 didn't
ask for my password and it wasnt found on MySB.com.

2012-12-07 Thread pippin

Don't know whether it was yours but I did get some truly helpful crash
reports. bluegaspode was right, HockeyApp's crash reporting is really so
much better than Apple's and also TestFlight's (which has the added
issue of being unacceptable from a privacy policy standpoint except for
beta testing because it sends data without asking, which is why I never
used it in the wild).

Sorry, I forgot which volume issue you had, it's not the one with volume
changes causing skips, right?
Was it about changing volume when exiting or entering the App? _That_
problem would be a known issue by now if you use an LMS 7.5.x. It's
caused by the server sending a wrong number of New Music entries. I have
a fix but it's not in the current version, will be in the next.

2012-12-07 Thread Steve Baumgarten
Yes, that's kind of what I had in mind, too.
Would have to be something like wikipedia or a publicly available site,
though, a lot of the commercial ones don't allow you to use their data
 for commercial Apps.

I'd settle for an search on Allmusic.com -- even just opening the page in
Safari would be fine.

http://www.allmusic.com/search/artists/%s

Of course it's not as clean as having it all in-app, but it's still much
more convenient than having to switch to Safari, go to AMG, enter the
artist, etc.

Shouldn't be an issue regarding using their data since you're only handing
off a URL.

(BTW, I love the new Christmas-themed iPeng icon. Very festive!)

I'm not sure how this will drain the batteries. Nor how they keep iOS
from quitting the App after 10min (as I guess the App starts up a simple
HTTP server to make the files available to the Sonos players, via their
playlist).
Will investigate :) ... and maybe this is possible for Squeezeboxes as
well (as long as people run their own server to hold the playlist).

But it's a cool marketing catch in any case (people even wouldn't need a
NAS anymore to hold their music files) and people with some probability
realize only later about the real implications.

in the middle with too little functionality and too high price.

Hi newbie here.

I would agree that Airplay, BlueTooth and iOS docking are very high on
the audio playback list for most people. Real shame that Logitech pulled
the plug just as computer audio is taking off.

Shame but at least I managed to bag a used SBT for a good price.

what my options are when/if the day comes that I need to abandon my

selective about where I put players, but at least the product line and

In the mean time, I continue to use and enjoy my squeezebox setup.

[slim] Help with SqueezePlay please

2012-12-07 Thread Zoltan

I am tearing my hair out here. I have just installed SqueezePlay and
can't for the life of me get it to connect to my local server. It only
seems to want to connect to mysqueezebox.com. It seemed to do this
automatically in spite of at one point suggesting that I needed to go to
jive.something.com and enter a PIN. However, I didn't get chance to do
that as it did something automatically. Then I found something hidden
on the Test menu, SN Registration that allowed me to enter an email
address and password that I had previously registered with
mysqueezebox.com. It accepted this but it did not seem to make any
difference.

I have been all through the menus and can't see anywhere to switch to my
local server. I never use mysqueezebox.com with my hardware players so
I am not familiar with what the switching procedure is there.

I more or less have a new computer in that I installed Windows 7 on a
new HD and started from scratch again. I did install SqueezePlay on my
old XP install not too long ago and I don't recall these problems. LMS
itself is running on a different machine from my WIndows 7 box - a Linux
server. I just upgraded to the 7.7.2 release yesterday having been on
an old 6.* version for a while. I have tried both the 7.7 and the 7.8
versions of SqueezePlay.

Mick Seymour wrote:

Good to know, thank you Mick. Still I have to try with the tablet of my
choice. As I understand some of Stefan's earlier post in this thread it
depends on the hardware and probably the Android version how well
synchronisation to the other players works.

I haven't quite made up my mind what tablet I want to use for this.
Initially the idea was to try with any of these dirt cheap ones which
are now available from about 60 Euros. That would probably be the
cheapest Squeezebox ever (if we disregard the raspberry pi, which I
don't consider a ready-to-use consumer product). In my opinion, if the
tablet has nothing else to do but reproducing audio, then even an
outdated, slow unit should be good enough for the job. Or does anyone
disagree?

Anyway, lately I wonder if it wouldn't be better to spend 200 Euros on a
Nexus 7 which is pretty much state-of-the-art and should offer the
option to upgrade with an external USB DAC (at least in theory, so far
it seems nobody really tried this) if the analog output doesn't sound
good (as somebody from a German HiFi forum wrote).

Any thoughts on this, anyone, please?

Also one specific question (Stefan?) - would a USB to TOSlink converter
such as this one:
http://www.inline-info.de/art/de/89909D/InLineAudioKonverter%2CEingangUSB%2CAusgangOptoToslinkundKlinke%2Cschwarz.html

fall into that same USB Dacs/USB audio device category which should be
supported in JellyBean? Because I already have one of these. For
windows, it works without requiring any driver.
