If you just need a comma separated text lite you might be able to use the Database Query plugin, it contains a report that lists albums together with release year and artist and you can export it to a csv file which can be imported in Excel or similar tool for nice formatting. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98269 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Usage of online services in your family ?
We use Last.fm as our premium service, with Slacker and Pandora as free services. One account for each for the whole family. The ability to keep track of individual playlists or favorites for each family member: Not a problem in our house. My wife and I have fairly similar tastes, and we have favorites for each of us. We don't use playlists. The only problem is when our kids come over and want to listen to boy bands or metal. We just have them use Pandora and turn off Last.fm scrobbling while they're here! My dream system and online streaming services: It would be nice to accommodate multiple instances of a service, but not really necessary for us. kc5f's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98198 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Usage of local music libraries in your family ?
Just me and my wife, unless the kids come over. Never really had the money to buy lots of CD's, so we only have about 1000 tracks on my computer. It's only on when I'm using it, so LMS is almost never used. We stick with online services and stations almost all of the time. I do use LMS when I'm having people over and want to play specific music, but that's about it. Do you have a need to let each family member browse their library individually? No. ... keep track of playlists for each family member? No - we share the few we use. ... favorites for each family member? Don't have favorites. If we don't like it, it's not in the library! ... ratings and playback statistics for each family member? No. Does each family member have individual players? No - we share the Duet and the Boom. Does each family member have their individual remote control/smartphone? We share them all, although we generally use our own Androids. If you have a remote control which you share between multiple family members, is it a IR-remote, smartphone, tablet or computer? The Duet Controller (rarely used anymore), a Boom IR remote, 2 Androids using Squeeze Commander (95% of the time) and Mysqueezebox.com on the computer. How would your dream system work to work as well as possible for usage of local music on Squeezeboxes and portable devices in your family? For the little bit we use it, it works fine for us right now. kc5f's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98199 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
SWAMP05 is going out the door today! (well actually over the internet, I guess that counts as a doorway) Boy did this thing turn out to be harder than I thought. Because I was going for 2 layer (for cost and turn time issues, remember: high quality, fast, cheap -- any two. This had some major implications for the high speed differential interfaces: USB and Ethernet. It turns out it's very difficult to get the right impedance with only two layers. I finally worked it out. If I can figure out how to post a picture here I'll send a plot of it. So now we should probably start thinking about Gen1 details, such physical size, what case (these two go together. SWAMP05 wound up being 4.3 x 3.6. I don't see Gen1 being any smaller. There are a lot of connectors to put on it, so I don't think my original idea of 4x3 with the 3 as the back edge with the connectors working, it just isn't going to fit. If we put the connectors on the long side (as I did in SWAMP05) the smallest dimension it can be is 4, the smallest the other could then be is about 3.5. They could be larger. Based on previous discussions I think I'm going to put a USB hub on the board, so we will have 4 USB type A jacks, even with stacking that takes up a lot of room for full size jacks. I envision two stacks of two jacks. I was thinking originally of doing two USB with an RJ45, but now we have 4, AND the 2USB-1RJ45 don't have builtin magnetics for the Ethernet. So I'm looking at two stacks of two USB, single Ethernet by itself, stacked RCA jacks, TOSLINK, HDMI and DC power. BTW Toshiba no longer makes optical audio modules and they have the trademark on TOSLINK, so I guess we should call it something else. The other big thing we need to decide is what we are going to do about WiFi. I personally like the concept of using the Wizfi630 module which does everything for us without needing any processor resources or drivers on the wandboard. Others want to use the builtin WiFi module on the dual wandboard. It's cheaper since it is already there, but you need to get all the right drivers installed etc, and it's difficult to get all the functionality we can get from the Wizfi630. Then there is the issue of balanced output or not. Balanced adds to the cost and complexity, but is still easier to do on the main board rather than on a daughter board which can be done. If it's on the main board then everyone is paying for it. In the case of HDMI it is litterally an extra 95 cents connector, but balanced takes quite a bit more circuitry and quite a bit of extra space. We are probably talking at least an extra $75 to add Balanced. Do we want to add that to every board or have available a $150 add on board which has to somehow mount in the box and connect to the main board. If we do the add on board then the main board and case have to be designed for it. Although once we have a modular system there are other add on boards that could be developed. Just a few thoughts. What connectors are we talking about on each side ? If we are thinking ahead for Gen2, it would be important that we can put it in a nice box without being forced to have a lot of ugly visible cables sticking out of the front. I think that's more important than getting it as small as possible. An IR receiver and a USB DAC are obvious things that could use USB, but what else is there if we are talking about a player device ? If we are talking about a server device 4 USB connections would be nice because then you also want the ability to connect a USB hard drive, but the previous ideas was to not design it as a server as I understood it. Still, if the only issue is that it makes the board larger and a few dollars more expensive, I don't have any issues if we want to select the 4 built-in USB connector solution since it opens up some flexibility for the future. John, congratulations on the launch of SWAMP0.5! On the matter of balanced outputs, it would seem reasonable to think of them as an extra cost 'optional' add-on. If the SWAMP1.0 internal DAC is that good, those of us with balanced setups can probably afford to pay the extra fare and retire our external DAC. JohnSwenson wrote: So now we should probably start thinking about Gen1 details, such physical size, what case (these two go together. Personally, I see no advantage to the end user to making the board as small as possible, other than perhaps cost. Did you forget coax S/PDIF? One thing I'd like you to consider is the possibility of allowing some easy end user mods, including upgrading the RCA connectors. Do the stacked RCA connectors lend themselves to that? What about a physical power switch and a reset switch? I'd expect a reset switch to be on the back of the unit, so it would probably need to be on the board itself. For power, a switch header that could be extended by cable to the front of the case would be nicer, but if necessary it too could also be on the back and directly on the board. I'd say an optional board for balanced is the right way to go if it's going to add this much to the price. Knowing John's attention to detail and his engineering credentials I'd probably go for the balanced output, but others who are not interested in balanced outputs or who have nice USB DACs would benefit from not having their costs increased unnecessarily. paulster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23073 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've not tried extensive tests with the wifi card yet, but think the dual core board is definately the way to go. If we stick to the wifi on the card then we can integrate it with the web and jivelite UIs to control it rather than needing another web interface. Perhaps have the option to add it, but allow most people to use the dual lite board with the built in one? (definately worth it for the extra cpu power) BTW - also making good progress with the jivelite UI - now have something I running reasonably well for browsing/now playing and early selection of output device via a HMDI screen/IR remote. Working well with usb dacs on a straight wandboard. Hi there. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a notification widget like the music player or the other remotes like xbmc have; where a pause/back/next widget with album art is placed in the notification area? Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
I'm really impressed by the passion that people like JohnSwenson, Triode, JackOfAll and others (sorry if I missed a few names) lead them to invest their time and money to work on this project! Although I'm quite happy with my current line-up of Logitech/SB devices and have no fear about the future without Logitech supporting the system (I'm not using online services), the effort those people show-up makes me even happier about my bet on the Squeezebox ecosystem. I have the feeling that it's time now to think about the 'funding' part of this project. Maybe it's hard to compensate the time that the people currently driving the development of this project invest. But what *should* be possible is to compensate their expenses e.g. for hardware they're buying to test. Any thoughts how this can be organized? Should we setup a list where these people can enter their expenses and others can enter their compensation payments? Since I never used Paypal before (and prefer to keep it like this), I'd like to be able to pay something without the need of a Paypal account. -- Reinhold reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I saw just now the answers to my request for FLAC multichannel support. I hope it will be considered in the future. Having the HDMI output on board practically begs for it. I'd love to get one of these at some point (even though I don't really need one), just to show support. (I'm hoping when the 1.0 version is eventually made available the sale price will include some reasonable profit.) Beyond that, I agree that direct payments can be difficult, both technically and socially. Other ideas include opening up Amazon wish lists so people can buy something off of them, basically sending someone a nice gift in return for all this effort (e.g., buying someone a book or an album as a way of saying thanks). Even further removed from actual compensation for materials used: people may have a favorite charity they'd like people to donate to, something like that. But sometimes people enjoy doing this work just for the love of doing it, as a way of giving back to the community, or just for the fun of it. I totally get that -- it's why I'll sometimes spend an evening debugging the latest espn.com web page layout to get SuperDateTime working again. (Very minor compared to all this effort, but perhaps in the same spirit.) So if it's the latter, everyone involved has my thanks and great respect; but I'm also happy to contribute to the effort up front or as a future buyer of this new kit.
