But it's also between the router and the office. The SB2 and SB3 are plugged into the same switch. And it isn't that the SB3 won't connect from the kitchen - it boots up and connects to the LMS server, navigates the menus fine. it just keeps rebuffering (but not when it's in the office). I think I will try removing the wireless card to see if that makes any difference. [slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
Hi there, I currently have a Touch, an SB3 and a Radio, and I'm looking to pick up another Touch on eBay (basically, to replace the SB3 since Rhapsody no longer works on SB3's). I'm curious what experiences folks here have had in picking up used Squeeze devices on eBay. Anything to watch out for? My one fear is that while the device may have started up for the seller, there may be something wrong with the network adapter such that it won't connect to my Wifi or my LMS. I'd be curious to hear people's experiences -- both good and bad -- for buying Squeeze devices via eBay. Thanks a lot! Re: [slim] Weird networking issue: SB2 v SB3
OK, finally got to the bottom of this. Tried rebooting the switch - no change. Tried removing the wireless card - no change. So I got hold of a long ethernet cable and strung it through the house from the switch to the kitchen - and the SB3 started working fine. Ah! so it has to be the cable that passes through three walls, thinks I - not looking forward to replacing it. But not so fast: I swapped the ports in use on the switch and now the SB3 is working fine on the original cable, but not on the long one strung through the house. So that makes me believe it's a dodgy port on the switch. I then tried running the SB3 on the dodgy port when it was in the office (ie. close to the switch), expecting it to start rebuffering - but it was fine. So my conclusion from all this is that maybe the switch has one port that happens to be a bit down on power, and combined with the long cable run to the kitchen makes it a bit borderline. Meanwhile, perhaps the SB3's ethernet receiver is just a bit less sensitive than the SB2's - sample variation could easily explain that - which is why the SB2 never had a problem. But in the end I now have a working SB3 in the kitchen, and didn't need to replace the cable. Thanks to all who chipped in with suggestions. I know what you mean. A raspi with DAC and picoreplayer is a cheaper and in my view safer bet. Google hifiberry and picoreplayer. Hifiberry will sell you everything you need hardware wise to build a small box that you plug in to your hifi in a similar way to a Touch. Picoreplayer is the software you need to burn onto a micro SD card. You don't need a screen after the initial build - 20 mins - if you control your player with a smartphone app or similar. You do need to run LMS locally - you can't just connect a Pi based player to my squeezebox.com. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104775 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Check vailidity of music library?
Which server version is this? Also, please check your file conversion settings to make sure ALAC can be played natively. If that's sure then if iPeng can't play the file I'd say it's corrupt. iPeng plays ALAC natively and uses Apple's codec, I'd say that's a reference. That said... A very common issue with ALAC and AAC files using an MP4 container is that some metadata is written at the end of the file without a correct index header at the front of the file. These files can be played locally but cannot streamed so won't work in a Squeezebox environment --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 9, the Universal App for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104776 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Check vailidity of music library?
Hi, since i have a huge experience with valid/unvalid files i can tell you (no i am not audiophoolish) there is no real way to check that other than your ears. What you can do is: - open vlc - press [strg] [m] - set verbosity to warning - add a (smal) folder to the playlist - play them - take a look in the warnings/messages * but* I have files with errors that play perfect and files with no "errors" that arent good. eg a really good example (the hardest track to rip ever i found) is Depeche Mode A Question of Time [CDBONG 12] from 1991 Track 1 - A Question of Time (Remix) @ 1:10 till 1:21. (ok these errors are in the CD and some rippers do add more skips to it that the original has already) Gruss Jan DJanGo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1516 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104776 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
I purchased a Touch off ebay not too long ago. I think if you find a seller that has good ratings and they say it's in good condition, you're reasonably safe. I've been seeing them in the $200 and up range of late although if/when you find a new one, they're much pricier. Unfortunately, I did have a bad experience buying a used Boom - torn bass seals. Of course, if you're a bit of a tech guy, there are lots of fun options to building something yourself as noted above.
