So it turns out that Squeeze Ctrl app works: It reliably connects and stay connected reliably, too. Last night when I tried it, I did so too fast b/c I was trying to avoid paying $6.00 for a third app that might not work (I already paid for Orange Squeeze). But tonight I decided to try it again (even if saddled with the fee). And boy I'm am I glad. Not only does it stay connected, but has every feature you need to completely control the Player, as well as every possible setting to configure it (as if you were standing in front of the player and doing it natively). It also has a ton of other features (that you have to get used to). I've been corresponding with the developer today, and he's pretty cool. Yes, that's why I asked about the server update. It's broken with older LMS versions which don't report an updated rescan date when you do a "clear & rescan". If I did a "look for new and changed" every night, then the server would not remove albums/tracks which I'd deleted. That's why I decided to run a "clear database and rescan" each night. I'll ponder this, and decide which is the lesser evil, having to "clear cache" in squeeze commander every day, or having to do manual updates on the server every time I do something which isn't picked up in a "look for new and changed" scan. I suspect I'll end up doing the "clear cache" in squeeze commander every day. I've reached the age when I forget things, unless they are done regularly. Aha! I've fixed it. I had to "Clear cache". As after a database rebuild. I've configured my server to do a "clear and rebuild database" every night. So, if I download a new album into my PC, the server will automatically pick it up by the following day. But this continual database rebuilding seems to confuse Squeeze Commander. [slim] Windows 10 - Squeeze Remote and Squeezeplay
I've a new Surface 4 that came with Win10. Love the device, my favorite piece of hardware yet, but I'm still finding my way around Win 10. I'd like to use it to control my Squeezebox ecosystem from time to time, and to use it as a player itself. So -- who has experience of Squeeze Remote and SqueezePlay on Win 10? I use them both on my Win8.1 Surface 2. Although Squeeze Remote is clunky, it works -- Squeezeplay replicates the Controller for local play, and works ok, but it's clunky, too. I'm not aware of alternatives. For the record, I mainly use my Android mobile for control, but there is utility having the apps on my Windows tablets. And the sound quality from the tablet player is better than from my mobile, using it with headphones. R. I can't find a way to play anything. I found the album I want to play, but my playlist is empty, and I cannot find the sequence of things that I have to do to add the album to the playlist. Clearly, I'm missing something, but I've been battling this issue for several weeks, and getting nowhere. If I prime the playlist with my Duet controller, then it seems to work after that. But how can I use Squeeze Commander without priming the playlist? If the player's MAC were to be associated with two accounts (again due to, say, a re-provisioning bug ... or maybe admin/polit error who moved it), then the device could cluctuate between accounts (as ARP requests were made), giving rise to the sudden "No player found on mySqueezeBox.Com" in my account. The drawback to my ARP hypothesis is that the TOUCH itself never disconnects (no pauses or gaps in the music). Regarding your thoughts about Andriod doing something fishy -- -and btw, a reviewer on the Google Play App Store complained about the same APP issue starting with Andriod Marshmallow O/S --- I guess I could sniff the traffic (tcpdump), but would have to find time to do that. Btw, the phone runs Android Marshmallow and the tablet runs Android Lollipop, but both have the issue (although the tablet takes longer to fail). Maybe an easier route to test the -Andriod-being-the-problem- possibility, is to boot my PC into Windows 10 (I run Fedora Linux) and try this 'App' (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/squeeze-remote/9wzdncrdmktn). There's no ARP involved, the App tells MySB about the MAC of the controller in the header. That said I'm not even 100% it's only the MAC and not also a UUID (would have to look that up). If three Apps are involved I'd also say it's unlikely that an App issue is involved, looks rather like a problem with Android to me since I've never heard about such issues on iOS. Either Android somehow inhibits the use of permanent http streams (but I don't even know whether all three Apps use these) or it changes some other properties in the background without the Apps being prepared for that. I haven't tried for some time but I think it looses the connection as soon as I turn on the screensaver or as soon as I use another app. The connection will mostly be lost when I return to OrangeSqueeze or Squeeze Commander. Squeeze Ctrl works fine with LMS 7.9. It's the only app I've used on Android, but I like it, as it does everything I need it to do. Pretty straightforward interface with few surprises. I can confirm that both apps work with LMS 7.9. I prefer OrangeSqueeze. Squeeze Ctrl often crashes the LMS on smaller hardware like NAS. You don't have to come from Barcelona to be able to do this; 20368 First I am assuming that you have the QPKG LMS installed from Qnap. Download this file: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.8.0/logitechmediaserver-7.8.0.tgz Place the file in your "public"-share on the nas. Then rename the file to: "squeezeboxserver-7.8.0-1367824489.tgz". Go to SSOTS admin page (i.e. by putting NAS.IP.ADDRESS:9099) into a browser). The menu options are About | Status | Settings | Tools | Help First you have to stop the Squeezebox Server - not disabling LMS. That can be done in the |Status| menu (top left hand corner) Select stop. Afterwards the upgrade option in the |Tools| menu should be available and not greyed out any more.
