2019-03-03 Thread Fizbin

If you guys have another compatible PSU around, try that first. Although
it's more than likely the PSU is not the culprit in this case, there
have been other faltering Squeezebox devices that were remedied by a new
PSU. Some Touch's for example have had remote control issues and certain
owners did some soldering to repair it. However, other owners with the
exact same issue were able to correct the problem with a new PSU.

[slim] For sale: Squeezebox 3 & Boom

2019-03-03 Thread sclamage

My Squeezeboxes have served me well, but I've moved on and I'm hoping
someone out there would like to give them a new home.

Squeezebox 3:
- still works fine
- case is excellent condition
- display is getting pretty worn out (see photo)
- includes original remote
- missing one of the little rubber feet on the bottom

Boom:
- case is in good condition, except...
- rubber is getting that "sticky touch" syndrome ... I'll leave it to
you to address it how you want
- snooze button does not work
- display is also worn out (see photo)
- speakers still in good condition & sounding great
- includes original remote

PM me with a reasonable offer, including shipping, and they're yours. If
you live in the NC Triangle area, you can come pick them up in person
and save on postage.

You don't *have to* and for sure some are still good, but I never tried
to figure out exactly which ones, so every time I replaced them all. To
some extend, it's faster than trial and error. You might try C16 and
C20, as suggested and if it still does not work, then change them all.
Other than that, I can't think of something else to do. Make sure the
CPU and WiFi board are well seated. Opening the SB3 is super easy
anyway, not like a Boom or a Radio

Re: [slim] Is it time to abandon my Squeezebox Classics?

2019-03-03 Thread ctbarker32

While I still run a Classic also. Most of my streamers are now Raspberry
Pi based. Pick your poison, zero or full sized and had a DAC Hat and
install Picoreplayer. Now you are completely up to date with 2019 sound
quality. Myself, I have switched to Roon after 10 plus years of
Squeezebox Server. Roon does a good job of using existing Squeezebox
players (e.g. squeezelite, etc.). I have my Classic directly hooked up
to the cloud since I mainly using it for internet radio streaming.

I continue to be amazed at how much the original Squeezebox architects
got right (Mark). I wish Logitech could have continued to develop the
product along the lines of Roon?

You can find here the list of capacitors
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103213-Squeezebox-3-common-faults-over-time=933927=1#post933927.
All available @digikey.ca, I bought them there, this is where the
references come from

[slim] Is it time to abandon my Squeezebox Classics?

2019-03-03 Thread Sb42

I've got two 15 year old Squeezebox Classics. They do exactly the job
that I need them to do which is to be a bedside Internet clock/radio.

I know that in 2019 there will be lots of people telling me that I could
do it all with a smartphone, but I don't want a phone in my bedroom, nor
do I want to navigate app permissions and external data pushing. The
bottom line as we all know is that the SB3 does exactly what it says on
the tin with no fuss.

However they are showing signs of age and having difficulty with audio
output. I'm about to embark on some 'surgery' to replace their
capacitors, but it ocurred to me that if they don't survive the event I
should consider replacement.

Anyone have any thoughts on why I shouldn't just use a tablet to access
LMS via the web interface and stream to a Bluetooth speaker for my audio
needs?

Is there a way to set a Sleep timer from the LMS web interface

look forward to your views?

Re: [slim] SB3 Left channel has gone very quiet.

2019-03-03 Thread Sb42

Please be gentle with me... I'm not an engineer Cap'n! ;-)

My two 15year old Squeezebox Classics are exhibiting these behaviours

Device 1

Very low output from left (white) RCA channel - to the point of being
useless
Low output on right (red) RCA channel - have to turn Vloume to >70 to
hear anything.

Device 2

Random resets while playing.

>From my reading of threads on these issues it appears that it's time for
some capacitor replacemnets. I've got a friend with the soldering
experience and tools to do the work for me, but I have to provide him
with instructions and spare parts.

It seems that we need to replace C16 and C20.

1. Can someone give me a parts list and supplier link, preferrably in
Canada.
2. Is there a step-by-step guide to this operation?
3. As we're opening up the boxes should we replace anything else while
in there?

thanks for your help..
