Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Mac OSX

2021-03-30 Thread Michael Herger

I am not "doing" anything other than trying to run SqueezePlay.app

Did you copy it out of the .dmg file to your app folder?

That is the output when you try to run it.

Where would you see this output? How do you try to run it?

I am not "doing" anything other than trying to run SqueezePlay.app
That is the output when you try to run it.

It's looking for those dependicies in the .dmg. and I was pretty sure
it would not work .
This is not the normal way to install apps on a Mac. It doesn't look
like this software is going to properly install on a M1 as long as Apple
keeps blocking it.

Good luck

Extracting that one file doesn't work. It throws out errors because it
can't find all the dependencies in that dmg package:

Jive: module 'jive.JiveMain' not found:
no field package.preload['jive.JiveMain']

What the heck you're doing?!?! I wouldn't even know how to get to see
such messages when doing copy/paste of a file... Seriously, you must be
doing something really wrong to get to see something like that. Just
double click the .dmg, copy/paste the SqueezePlay file in there.

Personally I stockpiled SBTs on ebay so have a never ending supply of
touchscreen bit-perfect digital sources to feed to whatever DAC takes my
fancy. :)
Right now it's a Mytek DSD192 (also scalped used from Ebay for a
sensible price). Prior to that it was a Naim Supernait built-in DAC.

I would agree that earlier Naim gear had a very different sound from
most "hifi". I heard it described once as the "big mono" sound, it
really drives the bass and produces a lively immediate sound, without
emphasising the "detail" that actually -is- in there, you just have to
stop dancing long enough to listen for it. Later Naim gear is moving
more mainstream sounding in fact (which is why they're now winning
awards..).

On the "bit perfect" story above. Weirdly I discovered that the SBT
won't output 66khz sampled audio. Crashes every time. No idea where that
track came from, but there you are; I have to resample it to play it.
Other than that I have no reason to believe that any digital source is
any better than this. Even a Chromecast Audio - which has a dreadful
analogue output, makes a perfectly fine digital source.

Wait I am confused.. earlier you said:
"You should download the .dmg file, open it, and copy the SqueezePlay to

your app folder. Then run the above from a terminal (you might need to
run it as admin, using "sudo xattr..."). I don't know what files you are

I currently have seven logs set to Debug:
control.command
control.queries
control.stdio
player.streaming
player.streaming.direct
player.streaming.remote
player.sync

I'm not sure which one captured the 'Request: Command
[7c:9e:bd:28:42:24->mixer volume] from JSONRPC (Dispatchable)' message
- I'm guessing it was control.command.

I'm by no means sure that iPeng is implicated, and the last thing I want
to do is point a finger without justification. It's possible, for
instance, that the commands I think I'm seeing are actually LMS updating
iPeng in response to a volume change that was triggered some other way.
That's why I'd be really keen for someone with more idea about what the
logs show to take a look at my log file.

Hello again - just jumping back into this thread. I've personally not
seen the volume drop to zero during playback. I believe it's
predominantly when turning the player (SB Touch as part of a sync group)
back on, but I can't say for certain that the player was always off,
sometimes I'm lazy and leave it on pause. All I can say is that when I
come back to the player and press play (via the LMS app) I notice the
volume is zero.

I was going to say I don't have ipeng but I realized I actually did on a
very ancient ipad. The app is never used, but the ipad was on. I just
uninstalled ipeng just to see if that does anything. Was your log
captured by using player.sync at debug like you mentioned earlier in the
thread?

Thanks!

> connected to another LMS

It does. Players from other LMS's are shown in the 'Manage players'
dialog. Cliking on one there will ask if you want to move to the current
LMS.

For Material 2.4.0 I've added a new 'single' URL query param. When used
in conjunction with 'player' it will allow you to tell Material to only
see and control a single player. e.g. "https://
SERVER:9000/material/?player=01:02:03:04:05:06" Perhaps I could
update the APK to allow specifying extra URL query parameters. Then you
could enter (e.g.) "player=Bedroom" and the APK will only control
the player named "Bedroom" (the 'player' param can take either player ID
or name). This would be for one player only, not a set of players.

*Material debug:* 1. Launch via http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json
(Use http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json,cometd to also see update
messages, e.g. play queue) 2. Open browser's developer tools 3. Open
console tab in developer tools 4. REQ/RESP messages sent to/from LMS
will be logged here.

Re: [slim] (Vaguely) Audiophile alternative to Transporter and SB+?

2021-03-30 Thread adamslim

Hello stranger!

The SB ecosystem is much more flexible now than it used to be - it plays
to DLNA devices and more via plugins that are very reliable, so there's
every chance that you can splurge money on a Naim streamer and it will
work well with SB Server. It's way more reliable than it was when I had
the Linn Akurate DS.

Apart from that it's a suitable player like a Pi plugged into an async
USB DAC. The DAC I would like to try would be the Okto DAC - Audio
Science Review is a good source of testing (measuring) for DACs, and
that one is as good as anything for a sensible price (about a grand). It
also has a Pi built in for the streaming facility.

Own music plus Qobuz, PC with Squeezelite-X, JRiver as digital XO
System 1: Lynx AES16, 5x SMSL DACs, various amps, 5 way horns
System 2: Asus Xonar u7, Restek Sextet, JBL L300
3xBoom, 1xRadio

start playback hear nothing and then notice the volume is zero. I have
wondered if Spotify is involved.

I think I've seen the kind of interactions that you mentioned in that
thread. But I think this is different because I was not actively using
iPeng (or my phone) at the time. I'm not certain that iPeng is
implicated - that's just my inexperienced interpretation of the log
file.

I've seen two types of behaviour that I assumed were related, but maybe
they're not after all. The first was the volume on one player being set
to zero at start up, and the other is volume reductions during playback.
My logfile above is for the latter case. Have you seen player volume
dropping to zero during playback, or was it already at zero when you
started playback (making it the former case)?
