Hmmm.

Following your instructions to the letter (number of times) a search for
D:\Music or D:\Pauls Music finds nothing ('0 results' instantly..
although I did wait for a long time just in case this changed). I
checked out other searches and they all worked fine (and very fast
too).

I'm a bit stumped. There is nothing odd about my D drive. It is a
physical drive and it's a true
path.3424034241|

Not that it should matter but I am using 8.1.1.

Re: [slim] lost apps

2021-04-17 Thread wildgoose

Another vote for pi and PiCorePlayer setup. :)

My pi4 uses about 3.0w of power (measured using Emporia Smart Plug)
while doing stuff (1.55w while idle). It's actually overkill for LMS.
For that I use my pi3+, with a directly attached 256GB ssd (and a 16g
microSD). CPU is basically idle when streaming flac directly to my
multiple squeezeboxes. When transcoding hi-res to CD 16/44.1 wav (for my
original squeezebox sb1), cpu is just around 30%. Best of all, it's
completely silent, and rock solid. I leave it on 24x7 because its energy
usage is like noise compare to the rest of the house.

my windows i7 on the other hand uses about 160w at idle. 200+w when I am
doing stuff. Despite buying "quiet" components, it's not silent. I was
running LMS on my windows box couple of years ago. I swear when I
switched to PCP, LMS GUI response felt snappier.

Going back to 7.7 will also bring you the problems that 7.8, 7.9, 8.0,
8.1 and presumably soon 8.2 have solved.
Some https source will not work properly and some integrations with
3rd-party services will not work or not be available.

Trying to resolve the problem that you had with the installer should
also help others who may well hit the same issue in the future.

Re: [slim] lost apps

And just to finish off this thread...

I ended up installing LMS on an old Win 10 box I have. The Linux box was
my first choice - see above - but my son may be reclaiming that
machine.

The Win 10 box is plenty powerful; an i7 with 16 gigs of ram - it feels
a little silly to be devoting it to running LMS, so I may at some point
do something that is more proportional to the task at hand, a new Pi4 as
some have suggested, or a less capable, salvaged desktop/laptop.

One oddity; I tried but could not get 8.1.1 to install. The installer
complained about compatibility problems, so I dropped back to 7.7.

Anyway, problem worked around. Thanks all.

At one time you could get the hub and the smart remote for under $60.0.
And even that basic model had lots of undocumented features like voice
control on Android tv or fire tv. Google never got this fully working
last time I checked but the hub could do it with programming on your
part. It could do automations like turning the tv on when you walk in
the back door after a certain time, etc. Harmony never advertised this
because this was for techies not your average consumer.

The setup software was a pain and it would say it can't do that when it
could- you just had to know how to "lie" back at it. Once I learned the
tricks , I realized Harmony was much better than what was advertised.

Logitech has some really nice technology, it's just they don't know how
to get the word out.

Yes, I think you are right, and the One For All may have been a mistake
for the reasons you give. Unfortunately it came in one of those plastic
containers that have to be destroyed to get into them, so I can't return

But it only cost a few pounds, so no great problem.

The Harmony strikes me as too expensive to make sense. Having a bunch of

The problem is the two version have a common root and LMS in some
circumstances searches for files (e.g. executables) in ALL
subdirectories so for example I think (depending on the root) all conf
file in both installation could be scanned and merged with confusing
results.

I think you have to delete (or for safety move so you could revert) one
by one any directory that is in in C:\Program Files\Squeezebox that is
also in C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server

I've just deleted a few of them, they were only test libraries.

I assume LMS is going to scan "your" library and your "friend's"
library. Makes it easier to make a library view using the file path.

It is strange indeed. It is because I seem to have two LMS

I quickly looked at the One For All site, but I'm afraid it might not be
a real alternative. Unless I'm mistaken, there are no remote controls

Nothing better than the screen to make the use simple. When we read

than remembering which remote control button has been assigned which

It doesn't look right because the escape char is the same as a backslash
in directory name - after unescaping there is no "" after .exe - it is a
quote.
""C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\flac.exe"
becomes
"C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\flac.exe"

First quote is because whole command chain is a single parameter ( -c)
of socketwrapper matched with ending quote after the following -abr
160 - -"

but first OP should check the executable - I didn't expect two different
Bin directories with the same subdirectory MSWin32-x86-multi-thread.

The error shows problem in processing - no output from the chain. So you
should first check out the components that they run OK from a command
prompt.

The two application to test are
C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\flac.exe
C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\lame.exe

Re: [slim] Bug with MP3 player bitrate limiting... maybe?

2021-04-17 Thread Paul Webster

One thing that strikes me as odd:

Code:

  "C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\socketwrapper.exe"
-D -i 52264 -o 52263 -c
"\"C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\flac.exe\" -dcs --
- | \"C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\lame.exe\"
--silent -q 5 --abr 160 - -"

This has a quoted section inside quotes ... does that work on Windows?

@bpa is always good on these things.

[slim] Bug with MP3 player bitrate limiting... maybe?

2021-04-17 Thread ModelCitizen

Having discovered the Squeeze Config Android app I have successfully
resurrected an old Receiver. Whoohooo!

But I have an issue with the Player 'Bitrate Limiting' function. If I
have it set to anything other than 'No Limit' the Receiver will play the
first few seconds of a track and then skip to play the next few seconds
of the next track, ad infinitum. It does this silently. There is no
sound. I've tried with MP3 and Flacs and with a different player, with
the same result. I am told I have Lame installed correctly.

Here's the server log showing the skipping bit

Any help appreciated, as always...

Certainly, I have quite a few libraries.

How to do this depends on which skin you prefer to use.

[slim] Multiple libaries?

2021-04-17 Thread ModelCitizen

Hi.

I have a desire to run two separate libraries and switch between them.
Is there a simple way to achieve that without running two instances of
LMS?
I am aware that Erland designed a (paid?) multi-library plugin but I'm
not too sure if it still exists/works or even if it is/was appropriate

Thanks again

[slim] New bitmap fonts for Transporter and SB2/SB3

2021-04-17 Thread df77

Hi everyone,

Within the last days I've compiled two new pixmap-fonts for the VFD as
present in Squeezebox classic, SB2 and Transporter, which I want to
share here. Over time I wasn't any longer satisfied with the current
look and decided that my squeezeboxes are in the need for a fresh look.
The first font is a two-lines one, the second a full-sized one.

The font "Neep" is based on the pixmap font jmk-Neep (available under
GLP, see https://github.com/nikolas/jmk-x11-fonts, whereas I've used the
bitmaps from the rockbox.org project, sizes 06x11 and 12x24). The
original fonts are monospaced with a dotted zero; however I've only used
monospacing for the numbers. A second variant, Neep0, provides an open
'0', which could look more pleasant for the clock.

34230

The second font, DINo, is based on a keymap written in the Win10 font
Bahnschrift, which itself is derived from the DIN 1451 font
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIN_1451). The DIN font is at least very
common in Germay and used for traffic signs, looks very neutral and
balanced, is quite easy to read from a distance. For this font, I've
created the bitmap keymap within The GIMP (font size 34px, with medium
hinting and no anti-aliasing). Afterwards, look, position and size of
the characters had to be edited / adjusted for a more clean and polished
look.

34229

The attached ZIP file contains these bitmap font files, which just have
to be copied to logitech media server, into the "Graphics" folder (the
BMP-files, not the ZIP, to e.g. /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Graphics/ in
case of the debian packages) and LMS requires a restart. The fonts
should then be selectable in LMS via the device settings for
SB2/SB3/transporter. Please be aware that the files have to stay in the
propper file format (1-bit Win3.1 BMP format), otherwise LMS won't start
properly (will no more find any players as long as the non-functional
files are present in Graphics folder).

I hope you like the fonts as well.
Daniel

Don't think I have. used to experiment with some tunnels for squeezebox
Alexa support on this forum (Media server or something) but anything
else, I'm not sure.
