A music library in WAV format and you always defrag your hard drives? You sound like someone prone to superstition ;) Regards, Peter Old habits die hard since the Intel486 era, disc defrag greatly improve performance ;^) It's true the music library drive does not need defrag as frequently as system disc, maybe once a month but this will check drive integrity as well so it's good PM (sound files are solid but playlist files get rewritten daily by Slimserver) I wanted to make sure datastream not being interrupted due to excessive disc activity since this noise is similar to a skipping CD, I will also try to pay attention to the signal locked light on the DAC (I used the optical connection) for unusual behavior if indeed it's the case. [slim] Random popping sounds appeared...
After a year of listening bliss, the last 2 weeks my SB3 started to hang while playing net radios (Smoothlounge.com), requiring reboot by unplugging the power cord (the power button hold-down could not reset it as you normally do). On top of all this, every once in a while, listening to my music library (WAV format) a loud pop (very sharp potential tweeter killers) would appear and as I rewind/replay it did not re-occur, this tell me it's electrical spike, not embedded on datastream and obviously on songs that previously played just fine. Am fairly well-versed in PC stuffs, always defrag my drives, using wired SB3 w/ 100mb/s ethernet and Netgear WGT624v3 router which also offer wireless. I did not do any config changes to either my PC or Slimserver when these problems appeared. The outboard DA converter tested fine using my CD player, so the problem appeared to originate from the PC/Network/SB3 routes. Any help or potential clue much appreciated. [slim] Re: Version 6.2.2 NOT ready for showtime...
Freezes occur immediately post install, requiring hard reboots, quite rare in my system (maybe 5 times last 4 yrs, but 3 times in just half hour last night). I looked at event logs, nothing shown. The last freeze occurred even while I listened to internet radio, with Slimserver just idling. The setpoints I mentioned were all those little checkboxes to customize my SB3 behavior and such, but no playlists were lost, thank goodness. Wanted to share my experience, but realize countless possibilities in a typical PC hardwares/softwares soup, it could be anything. Itunes for non geeks SB users and Slimservers for others who like to tinker. There is no need to argue, I am neither Apple fan nor PC lover. You know you can integrate SlimServer with iTunes? It's not quite as immediate as with Roku, as you'll need to rescan the iTunes library after creating a new playlist to make it available in iTunes. If you have a lot of existing playlists though, they'll be available all the time. No matter how many rescan/library wipes I tried, plus a bunch of background manipulations of Name Artist Composer Song Title just to make some sense in the Squeezebox LCD, so I lost faith. Then I began the hard works in Slimserver itself to trick it with some success. I reckon if you got direct SB to Itunes support, I can get about 40 of my friends and co-workers to do a group purchase of SB. As it is now, I don't want them to beat me up out of anger dealing with Slimserver if I recommend it to them. I will try the software you recommend, thank you. I am an ex Roku (M1001) user, bought it during Xmas and spent the next month trying to get rid of background noises and low fi quality, then read that the dang thing transcodes everything to 48KHz sampling, no wonder the lousy sound!
