Hi Nonreality,

Definitely NOT the optimum solution as you suggest, as my header
recommends the quick fix, I would suggest that SD/LT is not the
end-all for digital transport systems.
As with any (all) consumer retail products - customer satisfaction is a
secondary concern.
If you are dissatisfied with the product, move on.

My reason for selling is not related to the hardware itself, but with
the haphazard software support.
Of course, if it was worth the .$$ , I would have stored it until
my return.

Re: [slim] MusicIP - definitive install instructions for 7.1/7.2 (inc. headless)?

2008-09-07 Thread haunyack

If you use Archive Analysis in the MIP GUI options, the pain of
scanning a large library is greatly reduced should your MIP database
become corrupted or unusable.

As I re-install my OS(s) 6 times a day or so, scanning my 150,000+
tracks is comparatively trivial.

Cheers!

2008-09-07 Thread haunyack

ModelCitizen;337887 Wrote:

Right.

If so... it doesn't seem to make a scan trivial for me. Since
installing MIP SC scans take twice as long as SC seems to scan my music
files once (for conventional tags?) and then scans them again for MIP
tags... so scanning my library takes 4.5 hours in total. Not trivial at
 all

I was referring only to the MIP scan as comparatively trivial.

Notice - Squeezecenter scan is accomplished overnight.
Also, I backup the completed SC index and re-use it for new install.

Hence, the SC scan is not needed but only for newly added data.
Of course, SC rescan's the MIP db (the overnight part) in order to
refresh it's MIP index.

That could resolve the issue as VS won't have to cache the directory.
Linking to a physical disc is not recommended although I have not
experienced data loss with this configuration.

Current backup, redundancy, uninterruptible power supply, etc is a good
starting point.

sold that unit on eBay for the same amount I bought it for. The arrival
of Slimp3 was my excuse to get rid of the Audiotron since after going
the route of using a home Digital Music Server I just couldn't handle
going back to playing CDs exclusively :-)

By the way, I still think the Slimp3 is the coolest looking compared to
all generations of the Squeezebox. Anyone else agree?

My first digital server was embedded (still is) in my AV receiver Onkyo

contains a DAC for each channel.

Diranged at least has taken note, and may be able to ping the right

I'd second the suggestion for using the phone. it's real time, and

no, I think it is entirely expected that a response should be had in
that time. It is also not hard to believe that several things can get

in the way of that when it's just email. It's all a matter of
priority. If this matters to you, which it clearly does, phone is
 much more direct.

Case in point: before Christmas, I had an issue with an order from
BestBuy here in canada. They had shipped, but Canada Post showed no
activity two weeks after the ship date. Two more weeks of emailing and

nothing. Then after my three attempts at making email contact...I had

nothing. Three days later, I got two automated acknowledgements of my

first two emails and a response to the third stating that a trace had

been put on the package and I'd have further info in 10 days. No idea

why it took so long, or why it all came at once, but I was on vacation

so didn't care to do much more than email. Had I returned home with
still no response, a trip to the local store was the plan.

Clearly your desired result is to get a nice new remote for your
customer. It is in your customer's best interests that you be patient

and let this thread work through to the right people, or take every
measure available to you to make direct contact in order to achieve
your desired result. Walking away in anger may seem right, right now,

but it doesn't server your customer.

I'm sure it's all going to work out ok.
 -k

Thanks -k,
No anger - just realize that emotions cannot always be judged through
text.

I was not looking for a lecture, just results.
As you have not provided any results, I'll just thank you for your
interest and wait for this issue to be resolved.

Posting here surely has already had better results that waiting in
silence.

btw - I spent 30+ years in the C.S. field and understand that people
have communication preferences.
So do I.

Thanks again for your interest contribution.

my BK (Balanced in-out) which conveys the detail but is reserved

Re: [slim] Does Logitech Streaming Systems know the meaning of Customer Service?

2008-03-11 Thread haunyack

Imagine my distress.

Imagine you are Logitech and have just sold an SB3 to a paying
customer.
The unit arrives fully and professionally packaged.
The buyer installs Squeezecenter, plugs in the hardware, sets up the
wireless config with the REMOTE and scans his library.
Within hours (or minutes) he is listening to music on his home audio
system.
Bravo Logitech!

ok, Imagine you are me and have just sold an SB3 to a paying customer.
The unit arrives (almost) fully and professionally packaged.
The buyer installs Squeezecenter, plugs in the hardware, does not set
up the wireless config because there is NO REMOTE!
The stupid seller did not ship the damn REMOTE!

The stupid seller realized within minutes after shipping that he did
not ship the stupid remote and contacts the buyer to inform him of his
stupid error.
Then, after searching high and low, cannot find the original SB3 remote
(been using the slick backlit remote that came with his TP).
Stupid seller then informs buyer that he has lost the stupid remote and
has ordered a replacement through Logitech and will have it shipped
directly to him and forward the shipping info when received.

The stupid seller hears nothing from stupid Logitech.
The buyer hears from stupid seller nothing heard from stupid Logitech.
Stupid Logitech says nothing (stupidly).

Stupid seller embarrassed for stupid Logitech and himself.
Stupid seller tries to remedy the stupid situation, but no respose.
Stupid seller looking real stupid now.

Stupid seller becomes even more stupid by posting on the stupid SD
forum.
Gets a bunch of stupid replies.
Stupid is as stupid does.

Finally, Mike M. at Logitech notifies stupid seller and offers to
investigate the stupid problem.

Stupid seller finally has something to tell his buyer...that yes indeed
their IS a tracking number and YES the order was shipped.

Moral here?
No.

Just a stupid story about a stupid mistake that could be made by any
stupid induvidual or company.

Hi Jim,

As for settings in the UI, if you look in the lower right hand corner

Yes, that is what is claimed but I have not seen any quantifiable data

This only disables updating of last-access times (and I think it only
applies to directories, not files). SqueezeCenter stores file
last-modified timestamps in its database, not last-access.

Good to know...thanks for the info as I noticed that my usual re-scan

[slim] Does Logitech Streaming Systems know the meaning of Customer Service?

2008-03-10 Thread haunyack

Short answer - No.

I ordered a replacement remote for an SB3 I sold on ebay to a very
patient fellow back east.

When I ordered the backlit remote, the order page assured me that I
would receive order confirmation/tracking info.

What do I gat after my CC has been debited for $44.00+ and over a week
of waiting for the promised info - nothing.
No response to my various subsequent requests for any info regarding
the order.

This sucks.
Nice job Logitech.
I'm sure that my customer will not soon be your customer.

Thanks snarlydwarf.

Great...YMU @192kbps to RR @160kbps.

Blechh!

Going from barely tolerable quality to can't wait to turn this off.
And I just purchased a 2 for 1 year subscription from Yahoo.

mkozlows - my apologies for the hijack.
I agree SC 7.0 - definitely coming up!

Cheers!

Of course it would, at a FW15 level.
Some of the hard earned improvements won't be available with SC7/FW15

Ah, that's better - Thanks L.O.T.W.
I admit, I missed the entendre.

Any news to when FW 40 ready for official release with 7.0?

Hi Mike,

The link for detailed changes to the new release seems to be broken.

Q - does the official 7.0 release include FW 40?

Thanks.
