The interesting point is, that I have the feeling that the number was
falling the last months but now is raising again. I was really using it
as bad example for trainings and so I had several times a look at. But
maybe the search engine simply found more because it was scanning
further areas.

see whats playing to dig further into unknown music.

Devices with displays can be the difference between the systems, if I
need an Apple solution will I buy Apple. Why should be a Squeezebox the
same as an Apple device? They can learn from Apple but a copy ... no
please.

I agree with you that we need also some kind of new Receiver without

different to the buffered streams, a short break can have an impact on

Re: [slim] Recent SB3 Firmware problems

2011-02-03 Thread jo-wie

I had a similiar issue a few days ago. Started system from standby and
the player showed every few seconds a short flashing cannot connect to
server message and the screensaver did not activate. After a while it
disconnects completly and the screen does not go blank. I had to
restart the server. Sorry I did not check if I could press the left
arrow.

A not blanking screen I had also some time ago, but I didn't take care
about because the SB3 is connected to the switched power sockest of my
Amp.

I had the same with the 7.5.3 beta after update. I did restart
everything and it was fine.

Napster informed Logitech shortly before Christmas, that the servers

outdated. Napster will not maintain the old systems anymore and
Logitech has to switch to the new interface which was released a few
weeks ago. Logitech want to implement quickly the new interface in the
new year.

switch establishes a point to point connection between physically
connected devices and uses dedicated RX/TX pairs - no paket collisions.
It uses a fast switch engine and buffers.

I had a look into the old wiki entry and see following:

Playlist and Party Mode have been removed from Squeezebox Server
version 7.4 because of conflicts with the new press-to-play behavior.
This is an unfortunate regression but this feature never emerged from
beta status and we're hoping to do a much better baked solution in
future releases, hopefully as early as 7.5

What does it mean for the future?

connectivity issues with Duets/Controllers this seems to be a major
 design oversight.

No wonder people are using static IP's - they have no choice!

It's not very common to have a Domain Name Server in a home network
installation. Your provider DNS do not know the local names.

It's possible that your systems support resolving host names by using
Microsoft NetBios protocol, but that's not supported by every system.

have a SB integrated into a hi-fi system where there are other sound

But is this feature mentioned an any manual anywhere, and have I
 understood everything about this 'feature'?

I use this feature in the same way as you describe it, my SB3 is
connected to my AV receiver switched power socket and I do not need the
SC server to be powered on when I watch TV.

You can already press the power button to send a WoL packet when the
SB3 shows the connectin to SC message.

To send a WoL packet when the SB is switched from SN to SC makes sense,
but it should not affect the current behavior when it is powered on.

even made a little sense you should only receive fair market value for a
3 year old used SB3. Did I mention it's electronics.

I think that's a little bit to general.

For example, in Germany you have an implied warranty of 2 years and the
reseller is responsible. The point is, in the first 6 month it is
supposed that the fault do already exist when the unit was delivered and
the reseller has to prove if not. That's easy for the customer. But for
the rest of the time the customer has to prove that the fault do already
exist during delivery. That's not easy for the customer.

This warranty is based on an European act!

But in most cases the manufacturer provide a limited guarantee which is
better and the issue is handled by the manufacturer and not the
reseller.

The reason it works perfectly in Ubuntu is that SpeedStep is only

I was thinking about where it makes sense to have those extented

useless.

And I do not know what touch screen means: a interactiv screen

A big and readable color display maybe, but a touch screen? Why do I
need a touch screen on the stationary system. I need a good remote.

Re: [slim] livedrive etc

The advantages of storing everything in the cloud are many. I don't
need to bother with backups (buying backup devices, the hassle of doing
the backup, the electricity etc). I can access my data from any internet
enabled device, from anywhere in the world. I can share things with
other people easily without having to send email attachments. I can
store my contacts in one central accessible place (rather than having
multiple contact lists across different email accounts and on my
mobile), etc. But I guess these things aren't important to everyone.

I understand the advantages, but in the special case of a computer
which runs the Squeezecenter I do not get the point. It makes no sense
in my eyes to load my library from a Internet source to my local SC
computer. I would store the data on this computer and keep it in the
cloud as a backup or maybe the possibility to access it from different
locations and systems.

I would make sense if it's integrated into Squeezenetwork as MP3Tunes
and you get rid of an local computer.

I have 3 (4 if you include the original CDs :-) ) copies of my music
library: a copy on my main PC to work on, a copy on my Linux SC server
and a periodic backup on an external drive.

It's a good idea to have also a storage in the cloud, but I would never
go without any local backup.

I misunderstood you, I thought it did work with a fixed IP.

The SB3 does show up on the list of devices on the router.

Which router model do you have? Do you have the latest firmware
installed?

 Hello
Not sure if I'm posting to the correct forum but I'll push on

I was thinking of purchasing a livedrive account (www.livedrive.com)
for storage of my data (including music) in the cloud as opposed to
 locally.

Where is the avantage to have your music in the cloud and to access it
thru the SC? You still need the SC PC.

As a backup - OK, as the only place to store my data - NO!

 1) After installing the livedrive software, your storage appears as a
local drive on your pc (Windows only for now I think) so could I use
this with Squeezecentre by setting the music folder on my livedrive
 drive as my Squeezecentre library?

I would say yes.

 2) If (1) is true then surely I can store my music in flac format and
still stream it from the cloud (unlike mp3tunes which does not support
flac). Assuming my internet connection is fast enough, of course.

And the company server do provide the data in a reliable and continuous
stream. Just have a look at the people which do have problems with the
lokal network and streaming FLAC.

My 2 cent

Yes.

Hmm, no point. You should restart (power off/on) the router and reset
the SB3

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands

Do the router assign IP addresses via DHCP or do you use fixed IPs? Can
you ping the SB3 IP address from the Squeezecenter computer? Try t use a
fixed IP.

If it cannot connect to the WLAN you should check if a MAC filter is

 should ask that.

When it asks for connecting to SqueezeCenter the display just go dead,
 what is wrong?

It cant find the SC and I cant play anything through it.

 Need help here please.

During network setup for a wireless connection you've to answer a
question about the region (USA, Europe, etc.) to get the proper wireless
channels enabled afaik.

How (wireless or wired) do you connect the Squeezebox to your network?
Do you have a computer with Squeezecenter installed? Can you connect to
the Squeezenetwork?
