Re: [slim] Rebuffering problems AFTER a Win 10 update
Given that this ppears to be a recurring issue, I thought I would just note how I solved it (for the moment, of course - nothing is absolutely for ever with networking or any software, actually!) The issue started after I had an update for Win10, after a considerable period during which I had two Touchs, plus sometimes a Duet and of course Squeezelite-X running quite perfectly in all respects, so far as I could tell. Having read my way through tons of threads, and having received specific advice from Apesbrain, I also found this from sgmlaw on another thread .. - 'One of the best things you can do in any server-based environment is assign a fixed local IP address to the server machine itself. This will make the clients' job much easier going forward, especially those that NV cache networking settings through reboots and updates. Everything they need is always at the same local address, every time, without fail. LMS is no different in this regard. Our SB clients can always locate the server, with the occasional exception of our Receiver, which occasionally balks at a final connection without intervention from the Controller. While we use DHCP for clients that are constantly logging on and off, all major static network resources (always-on elements such as servers, NAS and other data hubs, printers and switches, etc,) get static addresses. You will have a much more trouble-free network environment if the major pieces are always in the same place. Place these static resources out of the assigned DHCP range, and even the most poorly designed DHCP server can handle it. You will rarely need 'finder' apps to hunt down moving resources again. After decades of networking, this is the best way to do it. ' I already had the server machine assigned a reserved IP address, so I just added reserved addresses for the Touchs (and the printer too) & also updated LMS to the latest overnight build - (7.9.2 - 1545144292 ), noting that there where some possibly siginificant performance efficiency enhancements in 7.9.2 over 7.9.1. One of my Touchs was also extremely closely positioned next to a large soundbar underneath the TV, so that may also have affected the system. Fingers crossed, heavy duty FLACS are now playing everywhere without any rebuffering at all!! Thank you to all the helpers on this forum - your expertise & common sense are absolutely invaluable! [slim] Rebuffering problems AFTER a Win 10 update
Has anyone seen this happening?? I have two Touchs synchronized with Squeezelite-X and sometimes Squeezeplay (using USB output to a Modi DAC, thence to an amp etc) .. the Touch's have always worked perfectly on wi-fi through my Orbi + one satellite, so long as I ensure that both Touchs are connected via the Satellite. I also sometimes run a Duet too Much of my library (>50k tracks) are FLAC but absolutely none are high-res at all. All FLACS I rerip to 16/44 through sBpoweramp regardless of what they come as .. but every single FLAC file now rebuffers constantly. Album art is normally set to 1000x1000 in size, always quite low res JPG. LMS Version is: 7.9.1 - 1522157629 & both Touchs firmware are up to date, so far as I know. I have run this set up for ages & ages & have not had any issues at all, so long as the wi-fi connected players are not connected through the base router itself, but through the Satellite. Congestion at the main router can be an issue with the Orbi. Nothing has changed at all in the system apart from the Win 10 update - and it was just a series of 'Quality Updates' - see the image attached. Does anyone have any idea where I can look to sort this out?? Networking always confuses the hell out of me, but I haven't been a techie for many, many years! Wouldn't bother with converting to MP3 for Android therefore - if playing your iPod through some type of connecotr to the car radio, you also don't need to convert if you use Rockbox. Re: [slim] Advice Please - FLAC to MP3
Personally, I would convert your iPod to Rockbox & continue to use FLAC files - its dead easy & you preserve the quality to an amazing extent. The difference is clearly 'seen' when you use earphones on the iPod. Else I would use either DBPowerAmp or foobar200 - use both for different stuff & both are excellent. As I do for my daughter's iPod (she resoutely loves iTunes - representing a complete failure in my attempts to educate her!!!), you have to maintain a separate library for the ITunes thingy, supposing you want to keep the original FLAC files. sherington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2587 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105561 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

fredgoodman wrote: I find two real obstacles in using LMS: searching and streaming. 1) Searching in LMS is primitive. Maybe this is not so much a problem for listeners to other music types, but it is a problem for me since I listen mostly to classical music. What is needed is a search that searches in all tag fields for all words with an (implicit) boolean AND. Here is how I actually search: I search in iTunes, copy the appropriate album or track result, paste into a word processor, copy an appropriate piece of the result, and finally paste that into the LMS search box. Clumsy, but I can actually find things this way. I could give examples, but I don't want to make this too long. 2) Many streaming sources do not allow or provide a URL that can be pasted directly into LMS. The only way I have found to get them into LMS is to play them on a computer (with sound muted), rebroadcast locally using Nicecast, and point LMS to the Nicecast stream. There should be a way to do all of this inside LMS. For example, there could be a mini web browser inside the LMS web interface in which one could choose the desired stream, which would then play through LMS. .. would be Muso - http://klarita.net/muso.html - I am just trialling it but it really is exceptionally good. Re: [slim] Possible to convert your favourites list to a playlist?
Hi, I had this issue since Winamp is one of the players I use from time to time, I searched on the Winamp site for a plugin - they have something that allows you to create a playlist, as normal, and then export that as a saved m3u file to any external player. The plugin creates a file item - save playlist complete which transferres the list, or exports to anything. I actually use it, in conjunction with MusicIP which creates the playlists - I then see that in Winamp use the save playlist complete to transfer that to a Rockboxed iPod, and save it to my Playlists folder so that the Squeezeserver can see it. Sounds much more complicated than it really is - in all, creation of a new playlist saving/transferring takes no more tha a couple of minutes! Hope that helps! Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?
The most annoying thing - and this not unique to Sqeezebox in any way - is that iTunes beats it hands-down in the creation and use of playlists. The Squeezebox implementation is based on the assumption, I assume, that Squeezebox users don't really need such a simple interface - they can cope with more technical methods. IMHO this is the one single thing that iTunes does really well, and should be emulated asap. Without this really quite simple approach, the system will forever be tagged with the only useable by techies nerds label and sales will be hugely restricted for ever. And on that note, the techies nerds (of which I am one - been in IT since c1975) should not come back and say this is daft - I know how to create and deploy playlists, but stand someone in front of your SB/Touch or whatever and tell them to create and deploy a playlist they simply cannot do it without detailed instructions and detailed explanations. Not good enough - I have only ever come across one relatively elderly person who could not immediately suss it out on iTunes/iPod etc etc but they all have one. My 85yr old Pa uses his squeezebox daily because I have set up his playlists for him. He should have been able to do it himself. My wife cannot do it my 15yr old daughter claims not to have the time to investigate. I ONLY use iTunes for setting up feeding the one iPod in the house that Rockbox doesn't support generally hate it since it comes with so much Apple FUD, arrogance stuff that I really don't want or need (like the iTunes store), but the playlist execution is the one critical thing that made it universally useable by the masses pre-the iTunes store. sherington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2587 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94987 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Refresh iTunes library?
You really don't have to use iTunes on most iPods ... Rockbox installs easily and straighforwardly on iPods (although not all - yet!) ..the two key attributes being: (a) your iPod is just treated as another USB device, so you can use whichever music management system you like, just copying files directly to the iPod as to any disk, and (b) all the Itunes procilivity to mess with your music files or tags are avoided. http://www.rockbox.org/ Simple really! Re: [slim] Ominous lack of stock in UK
I have been using SB for many years now have a Touch - it is actually a really superb system in all respects, apart from - possibly - that the server software requires to be understood a little bit. Since most people I know don't even understand tagging, or if they do, can't be bothered with it, they simply would not/cannot get on with SB at all. They normally download from iTunes - then they don't have to know or do anything much to get it working on their iPod that is all most people want, frankly, plus a bit of streaming internet radio if they have the money to get someone else to set up their systems. I think exploiting the niche is a really great idea - aim at the people who have downloaded MP3Tag or simlar - aim for the people that do their own ripping. That is the base of the market for what is, quite simply, the best bit of kit on the market. Sonos doesn't cut it at all! Is there a reason you would like to continue using the third party application you currently use even if a better user interface for playlist management would be offered through SBS ? No 4. Is it important to integrate it with some other application ? For example integration with dragdrop with the operating system file manager or something similar ? See my description of the Winamp Bento skin feature. 5. In case not already answered in question 2 and 4, do you have some ideas what kind of features or user interface layout you think is important for advanced playlist management ? 6. How do you do advanced playlist management today ? Which app ? From a computer, laptop, tablet or something else ? Always through Winamp - just beacuse it is so simple. Just have to save it as a file which can be read by something other than Winamp! -- sherington sherington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2587 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87372 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Music Magic or Mood Logic?
One issue is the lousy support from MoodLogic - I posed a query on the 2nd December 05 .. they responded on 6th January 06!! Otherwise, I agree with all the comments above .. I would also add that MoodLogic is NOT that stable at all .. constantly loses its database dll. Obviously, I am NOT going to bother their support people ... -- sherington sherington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2587 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19651 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
