Re: [slim] why is the sb3 remote SO unreliable?

2009-04-29 Thread wotuzu17

I haven't read all the post, but I remember having a similar problem. It
turned out that on my IR remote one solder pad of the LED was broken.
That bad contact caused the Squeezebox not accepting commands from the
remote sometimes.
I opened the remote, resoldered the LED, and I'm happy ever since.

Re: [slim] SB3 remote on the blink???

2008-11-28 Thread wotuzu17

I had a similar experience with my remote. In my case it was a broken
solder pad at one pin of the infrared diode. I opened the remote,
resoldered it and it works perfect now.

remove batteries then check for screws. There are no screws on my
remote. With a small slotted screwdriver carefully try to part the
upper half from the bottom half. I couldn't do it without creating
scuffs on the plastic-surface but if you are manual-skilled and patient
it may work without.

Re: [slim] SB3 remote control getting physically weary?

2008-11-11 Thread wotuzu17

I have got 2 Squeezeboxes: One older one with the Slimdevices Logo and
one with the Logitech Logo. The were shipped with different IR-
remotes. The old one contains AAA batteries while the new on works with
AA batteries.

The old IR- remote doesn't work fine anymore. Some buttons are not
always responding and some are as good as dead. The arrow down and the
sleep button are the worst. First I thought about a software problem
caused by an upgrade, but the new- design remote works fine on both
squeezeboxes.

crack in one of the joints. Re-soldering these prongs did the trick and
my remote has worked great ever since.

I just read your post and aut of curiosity opened my troublesome

the IR- diode is broken, you can move the wire in the hole when you
touch the diode. I will re- solder it and hope it solves the problem.

Thanks for your hint!

However, I got one with Logitech on it. Well, I will get used to it.

[slim] very slow response time when browsing genres

2007-07-13 Thread wotuzu17

Hi,

I just upgraded Slimserver 6.3 to 6.5.3, using the Suse10.1 system's
mysql server.
My Server is a VIA C3 / 1Ghz 256MB

my music consists of 1400 albums with 18434 songs by 560 artists.

Basically everything works fine so far, only when I browse my music for
genres, the cpu load goes to 100% for minutes. When I check the top
command, I see that mysqld is using all the CPU power.

For example, when I click on the rock genre, which contains 642 albums,
I need to wait 6 minutes for a reaction. In the meantime, the music on
my squeezebox stops due to the heavy cpu load.

The old version 6.3 needed 5 seconds for the same request.

Interestingly, browsing via the IR Control Search-Genres-Rock is
going very fast.

I already experimented with increasing buffer values in /etc/my.cnf,
but that doesn't help much.

I'd be happy for comments, especially from Michael since he seems to
use the same hardware as I do.

Re: [slim] very slow response time when browsing genres

2007-07-13 Thread wotuzu17

I'd like to add that all other ways of browsing are AMAZINGLY FAST. Way
faster than at my 6.3 installation. Only broswing for genres that
contains lots of albums in my database like Rock and Pop take INSANELY
long time.

Therefore I assume that it is not about my relatively weak hardware,
nor about the setup of the mysql server, but a inefficient way of
querying the server for genres, that results in high CPU load and that
ludicrous response times.

How does your slimserver6.5.3 installation react?

I use the workaround of browsing for Music Folders, since my folders
are organized in Genres.

[slim] Upgrade 6.3.1 to 6.5.1 - slimserver doesn't start

2007-04-14 Thread wotuzu17

Hello,

I just tried to upgrade slimserver on my Suse 10.1 to 6.5.1(the
official version)

when I try to start slimserver with the /etc/init.d/slimserver.,init
start script, the process starts and stops after 2 seconds, leaving an
error message in the logfile.

cat /tmp/slimserver.log
2007-04-14 19:27:39.9550 Warning: Migrating from 6.3.x used with
MySQL!
Database error: Can't create table './slimserver/years.frm' (errno:
121) at /usr/local/slimserver/CPAN/DBIx/Migration.pm line 115.

Anybody have suggestions what to do to fix the problem?

[slim] Re: Tons of Problems with 6.5

2006-10-07 Thread wotuzu17

I had the problems with the noise at the beginning of tracks too, and I
opened a Bug Ticket
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4312

I edited the tags of some of my mp3's with mp3tag_v2.36a, and I believe
the problem occurs only at tracks that are edited with that program.
Perhaps it doesn't write Tags properly.

Later on my server crashed, and the top command showed me 99% cpu load
for the mysql daemon.

I agree that there is still a lot work to do to fix all the problems.
My productive system is back at 6.3.1, too.

[slim] Squeezebox for me - Softsqueeze for the neighbours

2006-09-08 Thread wotuzu17

Hello Community,

I've just installed slimserver 6.3.1 on my linux computer and set up
the squeezebox in my living room. Everything works fine so far.

I would like to grant my neighbours, who use the same W-LAN, access to
my music library. The should be able to listen to their Softsqueezes,
but they should NOT be able to accidentally control my squeezbox. Is
there a feature in slimserver to give permissions for multiple users?

Does it make sense to run more than one instance of slimserver, that
are listening to different ports (e.g 9000, 9001) ?

Thanks,
Andreas from Austria
