It's really hard to form an impression without a treated and untreated

Why would Logitech need to do anything ? The whole point of the
technology is that it takes some sort of 3D source material and outputs
a stereo audio stream that makes the soundstage sound 3D when played
on two speakers.

There is nothing for Logitech to do to support this.

Re: [slim] 3D sound!

I was just listening to the audio article at the beginning, and the
inventor said, By the way, the filter is not adding anything; *it's
just taking away crosstalk*.

If that's correct, then yes, it sounds like a company could implement
this technology with a filter.

You read/heard that differently than I did. That wasn't my
understanding of how this would work in practice. What I understood is
that this is an algorithm that can take ANY and all recorded 2D
material and that material, when run through the algorithm, will come
out---either as broadcast, or on a CD, movie track, etc.as 3D sound
out of a 2 speaker setup.

My assumption was---and perhaps naively due to my limited technical
knowledge---was that the algorithm, like those used for DAC filters,
etc...could, if that assumption was correct, then be incorporated into
the SBS software.

It seems to me that if water streams and birds sounds are so realistic,
then orchestral works and concerts might also have some comparable
additional degree of quality and authenticity. Perhaps I am not
understanding exactly what 3D sound is all about. Thank you.

Re: [slim] 3D sound!

2011-05-04 Thread Zonker92

Yes, again, it sounds like a filter that could be used in any digital
system:

Drawing on some of the math in plasma physics, Choueiri devised a
digital algorithm that cancels crosstalk transparently without changing
the tonal quality of the sound. The brain naturally does the rest,
allowing listeners to pinpoint the original placement of sound in space
more like it would if we were hearing the “real thing.” Among efforts
to develop 3D sound, Choueiri’s approach is unique in that it does not
require specialized playback equipment. *The digital filter is
designed to work on any stereo recording played through any pair of
 speakers.*

4.
