Re: [slim] Firmware confusion

2011-04-11 Thread jimwillsher

I've always found FW updates to be flawless, and very well implemented.
A simple update of the squeezebox software follwed by a brightness
button. Surely infinitely simpler that some of the alternatives -
browsing to a URL, entering TFTP mode, FTPing a firmware etc.

I think it's an excellent system as it stands! YMMV.

Jim

PS I *never* user mysqueezebox.com, I always use a local server, so
perhaps that's the differentiator.

Re: [slim] Firmware confusion

You are correct that 7.5.4 has not been released yet. So for the time
being the options remain the same (listed in my personal order of
preference, YMMV):

a) update your SBS to 7.5.4 (beta), or
b) don't switch between SBS and mysb.com, or
c) continue to be annoyed.

[slim] Firmware changes?

2011-04-10 Thread Eeyore69

I had been using SqueezeServer 7.5.4 which used firmware 133. I had
recently switched to 7.6.0 which used firmware 135. This morning I
updated SS 7.6.0 to the latest nightly r32268 which updated the
firmware to 136. Just out of curiosity is there somewhere that explains
what has changed from revision to revision?

Thanks,

Re: [slim] Firmware changes?

Not telling what have change specifically for SB2/3, but from a checkin
comment:

ip3k Firmware SB3 136, TR 86, SBR 71, SBB 56

- Fixed DNS client handling when server returns multiple A records for
MySB.
- Changed MySB production hostname to ip3k.squeezenetwork.com.
- Includes changes from 7.5 ver 132 and 133, listed below:

- Bug 16898 - Changed keepalive timeout value to 50 seconds for both
SBS and MySB.
- Bug 16760 - Doubled size of S/PDIF fifo from 512 bytes to 1K,
appears to solve audio popping issues when playing
24/96 content with scrolling and visualizer.

In general you can see checkins here

However it is not always clear which branch the checkin is performed
on

I used to know, but since updating my SBS to 7.5.4 I've forgotten,
because it's no longer an issue. My vague recollection is that they
fixed the bug that was causing connectivity problems, so they wanted to
get it out fast (because a lot people were complaining about _that_).
But there are still some SBS-specific bugfixes that are still being
finalized.

[slim] Firmware confusion

2011-04-03 Thread matek994

Hi,

When I switch source from mysqueezebox.com to SqueezeCentre, and vice
versa, my SB display turns black and then asks me to begin firmware
upgrade.

SB Model: Classic
SqueezeCenter version: 7.5.1 (says 7.5.3 is available for download)

SqueezeCenter reports that my SB has firmware version 130 or 133
depending on whether I check before or after beginning fw upgrade.

Half a year ago I could switch source without this problem.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Mats

Re: [slim] Firmware confusion

2011-04-03 Thread Kuben72

Thats because mysb runs at 7.5.4 and that version needs another firmware
in the players. So when you switch to mysb it upgrades the players
firmware to 133 and when you switch back to SBS it downgrades the
players to firmware 130.

Its been like this always. If you want to avoid this then upgrade SBS
to 7.5.4.

It usually runs the same version as the latest officially released
version of SBS. At present there is an exceptional case where SBS is
still at 7.5.3 and MySB is at 7.5.4. That is why you need to go to
7.5.4, as recommended by Kuben72, to avoid the firmware
upgrade/downgrade when you switch music sources.

Re: [slim] Firmware 15

The only way it would even potentially be better:

You have a SB2 that was modded and the mod 'corrected' the polarity on
output, which was due to a software bug in versions = 15 of the SB2.

Even then, it's dubious whether it is meaningful or not.

Ie, VERY old versions of firmware (=15) had a bug.

Some modder decided to fix it in hardware.

The bug was fixed in software at v16 and later.

So, all you would be doing is (in theory) making things worse, assuming
you believe polarity is discernable.

Do you have a modded SB2?

Firmware release is dependent on the Player so they basically always
have different numbers. And which Firmware is the current release for
said Player depends on which version of SCS or SBS one is running. Do
they change with each SBS update, not always, and older Players that are
not being updated are currently at a Firmware version they have been at
for awhile.

This 'chart '
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/HardwareComparison) shows the
current firmware for each device at the devices current required Server
version.

Also if one is using an older Server Version and switching to MySBS.com
then the units are going to bounce back and forth after changing back
and forth.

[slim] Firmware v103 issues with SB3

After upgrading to slimSqueezecenterserver or whatever its called now

I like how you subtly made a dig on the name change by misspelling it.
Also, your clever use of double quotes around support was original,

Re: [slim] Firmware v130 issues with SB3

2009-09-30 Thread sweller

Thanks for your response.
I installed the version as prompted on the SC webpage - where it says a
new version is available, click here to download etc. I guess that was
v7.4.0. but the firmware was v130. I've since tried 7.4.1 but that still
gives me v130 firmware. Tried rolling back to SC 7.3.2 and the
associated firmware which all worked fine. I have a 2nd SB3 (later
logitec black version) which took the v130 firmware withoutout issue. It
seems that my slim devices SB3 doesnt like firmware v130 but is ok with
prev revisions.

current version as per SC Version: 7.4.1 - r28676 @ Tue Sep 29 04:01:53
PDT 2009
Cheers
Steve

Something must have happened during the upgrade. I'm running v130 on a
couple of SB2s and SB3s with no problems. Try doing a factory reset if
nothing else works. You'll then have to go through the network setup
again. Follow the instructions on the wiki:

Re: [slim] Firmware v130 issues with SB3

2009-09-30 Thread Johanvanmil

Hi,

I have the same problem here. I have upgraded Squeezecenter to 7,4 and
the Squeezebox to v. 130 and since then the remote is not working
anymore. This is both the case with my original squeezebox remote as
with my later acquired logitech remote.

I still can control the squeezebox via the web UI and via my Iphone but
not via a remote...

Btw: What is strange is that I have a another squeezebox in a different
room and this works perfectly with my remotes so it seams.

Somebody can help?

Cheers,
Johan

Just to eliminate the possibility - in the web ui go to settings -
player - remote and make sure Slim_Devices_Remote is checked. In fact,
I'd just uncheck and check it and apply to be sure.

Re: [slim] Firmware v130 issues with SB3

2009-09-30 Thread sweller

Thanks Millwood!

I checked the remote settings and both slim devices remote and JVC
remote were checked, unchecking then reselecting the SD remote cured the
remote issue. After that the player didn't seem to respond to screen
saver settings, although even scrolling through the player information
menus showed the player had what I'd set. I re-installed slim server
7.4.0 build 28672 and all works how it should. Not sure if a server
restart would have cured the final problem though. Many thanks to all
for your suggestions. Cheers Steve

[slim] Firmware update from SqueezeCenter

2008-09-06 Thread thomsens

When are you going to add the ability to update the firmware from the
SqueezeCenter instead of having to manually do it from each unit?
It's a pain to do it the way it is now...especially if you are flipping

[slim] Firmware downgrade..?

2008-03-24 Thread Adlopa

After trying SC7, I decided I didn't like it (too slow on my low-power
server), so I uninstalled it and reinstalled SS6.5.

However, both Squeezeboxes were left at the 'New firmware' screen after
detecting SC7 and I couln't get them past it. Out of curiousity, I
upgraded the firmware on one -- and now it won't connect to the server
at all.

So, here's a couple of questions that I can't find answers to
anywhere:

1. How do I stop Squeezebox A from thinking it needs a firmware
upgrade?
2. How do I downgrade Squeezebox B to the firmware from SS6.5?

All help appreciated...

FW 15 for the SB2/3 dates from July 17, 2005.. it's hard to believe

A few other tweaks you can experiment with:

[slim] Firmware Selector for Mac

2008-03-10 Thread Lefty

Hi guys,

I'm new to the slim devices community but post a fair bit in various
other hifi forums. I received my SB3 as a Christmas present from my
girlfriend and absolutely love it!

Now, being a bit of a tweaker I've been reading up on some things and
came across the TNT review for the SB+ which states that the v15
firmware is supposed to be the best in terms of sound. Since I only got
my SB3 recently, I have the latest firmware but am keen to try the v15
firmware. The only problem is, I haven't been able to find any software
that lets me change my firmware via a Mac.

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks

Lefty

Re: [slim] Firmware Selector for Mac

2008-03-10 Thread RadioClash

You should be able to do it manually easy enough. Just add the firmware
15 bin file to the firmware folder. Also within the firmware folder is
a squeezebox2 version file. Open with an editor (for PC I use notepad)
and change the version to 15. It should look like this:

# Squeezebox2 firmware
#
# fromto
# from1..from2 to

1..15 15

# future versions may be downgraded to this one
* 15

I don't remember which slimserver version has the firmware 15. I don't
have that info at hand. Maybe someone else can jump in. At any rate, I
do highly recommend the 15 firmware. Give it a try.

Actually, I think you meant Airbus 380. I think the old 747 still has
hydraulics.

But Phil's point is correct. This is a music system.

In general, a X.0.0 is likely to have more bugs than a X.0.1,
depending a lot on the vendor's reputation. Assuming the normal cycle of
beta tests, release, and a 0.1 as a bug patch.

But, I've been using SV7 for months and months. Its really very solid
and much more solid than any X.0.0 from a vendor such as Microsoft.
There are likely to be a bug or two in it, as in any and all software.
But there is no reason to wait if you want a feature that is in SC7.

Bill Gates famously said that no one ever buys new software for
bugfixes, they buy it for features.

Re: [slim] Firmware upgrade problems

2008-03-03 Thread y360

You need to upgrade to latest SC7 which is needed now otherwise you end
up toggling firmwares when using SN and SlimServer 6.x.x

I guess we're going to see this issue popping up quite frequently in
the forum. I've counted several bewildered users so far.

Andy, if you're reading this - perhaps the firmware downgrade error
message on the SB should suggest installing SC7

To summarize:

81 is the firmware that was in effect with SlimServer 6.5.4 and the old
SN

86 is the firmware in latest SC 7.0 and the new SN

86 is required for Pandora Rhapsody in the new SN

[slim] Firmware upgrade problems

2008-03-02 Thread puzzler

So all weekend, every time I try to play something on Pandora, it tells
me I need to do a firmware upgrade. Then it works for a while. Then,
I switch back to SlimServer, and again, it tells me I need a firmware
upgrade. And so on...

Meanhile, I'm experiencing all sorts of problems. My Squeezebox can no
longer play ogg files. My Squeezebox won't play long playlists.

The irony is that I just had a friend over today. I was telling him
about how Squeezebox is one of the few devices I've ever been able to
plug in and it just works. Imagine his laughter as he watches me
struggle with endless upgrades and buggy behavior all afternoon.
Arggg!

[slim] Firmware Update Failed on SB3

2007-08-29 Thread otipher

After updating SlimServer to 6.5.4 on my XP machine, my Squeezebox went
into an endless loop of reporting successful download of new firmware
followed by an error Problem: update failed and a reset.

I've tried the obvious things below:
Moving it from wireless to ethernet
Factory reset of the SB3 (remote and '+' key)
Trying different firmware (6.5.3 and 6.5.1)

All result in the same behavior - unit prompts for Software Update
and for me to press the brightness control. I can skip to the browse
menu to use the player, but the SlimServer browser page is telling me
to update the firmware on the player which always fails.

At this point I seem to have exhausted tech support options other than
returning the unit for repair.

Any ideas? I did not see anyone else reporting this specific problem on
the forums.

thanks,

Check if you can install firmware from Squeezenetwork. If it doesn't
prompt for an update, just press and hold brightness anyway to force
it.

Re: [slim] Firmware Update Failed on SB3

2007-08-29 Thread otipher

I'm not sure what the exact process is for updating from SqueezeNetwork,
but while playing an Internet Radio station I held down the brightness
key until an upgrade download was forced. The download was successful
but the update failed again.

In the meantime I downgraded SlimServer on the PC to the 6.5.1 release
(with the 71 firmware) and the server/player combo work fine.

If I install SlimServeer 6.5.4, the SB3 tries to upgrade to firmware 81
and fails. If I replace the contents of the firmware directory with the
content of the 6.5.1 release then the system functions, but of course
I'm still on firmware 71.

So I'm stuck with a SB3 that runs only 71 at this time.

updating the firmware ahead of the software sounds like a good way to
break something that doesn't need fixing

So, if you don't mind me asking, why do you want to update the
firmware?

I wouldn't avoid 6.5.2 simply because you've seen a few horror
stories. Remember that most people will only post if they have
problems or need help, which implies that the majority of 6.5.2
installations have gone smoothly (mine included).

FYI, we're up to 6.5.2 now (you keep mentioning 6.5.1). Inevitably
there are people who have trouble but it's very stable, in my
experience far better than 6.5.0 and would really recommend that you
upgrade.

Regardless, here are the instructions you seek:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=180849postcount=8

Note that that post was written a little while ago and refers to
firmware 75; you will need to substitute the latest firmware #--I think
we're at 81 at this point.

Also, while the consensus seems to be that firmware associated with
6.5.1 and 6.5.2 is interoperable (squeezenetwork-related changes only,
I believe), I'm not at all confident that the latest firmware will work
flawlessly with 6.5.0. Perhaps someone else can weigh in on that.

Re: [slim] Firmware download

2007-05-29 Thread prabbit

I installed SlimServer for the first time about a month ago. I installed
a build of 6.5.2. I've never used 6.5.1 (or earlier). When I got my
Squeezeboxes, I installed firmware 81.

While I've had questions about how to get things to work for me or for
clarification about SlimServer, I've never had a problem that I can
associate specifically to 6.5.2. So, count me as a happy user of
6.5.2.

Of course, I belong to the camp of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But if there are features in 6.5.2 that you want or bug fixes that you
need, then upgrade.

It gets the latest version from whatever you have on your computer.
If you look in slimserver/Firmware for 6.5.1 you will have
squeezebox2_72.bin
You have two choices:
- grab squeezebox2_81.bin and squeezebox2.version from 6.5.2 and place
them in this folder, or
- goto SqueezeNetwork/Pandora and the box will update to 81, and then,
before signing off SN, edit the squeezebox2.version file changing every

[slim] Firmware update when switching to SlimServer

2007-05-16 Thread bvasek1082

Anytime i switch between the squeezenetwork and SlimServer, my SP3
requires a firmware update. Upon restart, I must set up my network
settings. It will then switch back to the squeezenetwork without a
problem, but if I use Pandora, it will require another firmware update.
After that update, I do not have to set up the network. It has
followed this same pattern 3 or 4 times in a row.

Any help?
