Re: [slim] Firmware confusion
I've always found FW updates to be flawless, and very well implemented. A simple update of the squeezebox software follwed by a brightness button. Surely infinitely simpler that some of the alternatives - browsing to a URL, entering TFTP mode, FTPing a firmware etc. I think it's an excellent system as it stands! YMMV. Jim PS I *never* user mysqueezebox.com, I always use a local server, so perhaps that's the differentiator. -- jimwillsher jimwillsher's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=410 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86790 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi, When I switch source from mysqueezebox.com to SqueezeCentre, and vice versa, my SB display turns black and then asks me to begin firmware upgrade. Re: [slim] Firmware confusion
Thats because mysb runs at 7.5.4 and that version needs another firmware in the players. So when you switch to mysb it upgrades the players firmware to 133 and when you switch back to SBS it downgrades the players to firmware 130. Its been like this always. Re: [slim] Firmware 15
The only way it would even potentially be better: You have a SB2 that was modded and the mod 'corrected' the polarity on output, which was due to a software bug in versions = 15 of the SB2. Even then, it's dubious whether it is meaningful or not. Ie, VERY old versions of firmware (=15) had a bug. Some modder decided to fix it in hardware. The bug was fixed in software at v16 and later. So, all you would be doing is (in theory) making things worse, assuming you believe polarity is discernable. [slim] Firmware downgrade..?
After trying SC7, I decided I didn't like it (too slow on my low-power server), so I uninstalled it and reinstalled SS6.5. However, both Squeezeboxes were left at the 'New firmware' screen after detecting SC7 and I couln't get them past it. Out of curiousity, I upgraded the firmware on one -- and now it won't connect to the server at all. So, here's a couple of questions that I can't find answers to anywhere: 1. How do I stop Squeezebox A from thinking it needs a firmware upgrade? 2. How do I downgrade Squeezebox B to the firmware from SS6.5? [slim] Firmware Selector for Mac
Hi guys, I'm new to the slim devices community but post a fair bit in various other hifi forums. I received my SB3 as a Christmas present from my girlfriend and absolutely love it! Now, being a bit of a tweaker I've been reading up on some things and came across the TNT review for the SB+ which states that the v15 firmware is supposed to be the best in terms of sound. Since I only got my SB3 recently, I have the latest firmware but am keen to try the v15 firmware. The only problem is, I haven't been able to find any software that lets me change my firmware via a Mac. Any ideas guys? Re: [slim] Firmware Selector for Mac
You should be able to do it manually easy enough. Just add the firmware 15 bin file to the firmware folder. Also within the firmware folder is a squeezebox2 version file. Open with an editor (for PC I use notepad) and change the version to 15. It should look like this: # Squeezebox2 firmware # # fromto # from1..from2 to 1..15 15 # future versions may be downgraded to this one * 15 I don't remember which slimserver version has the firmware 15. I don't have that info at hand. Maybe someone else can jump in. At any rate, I do highly recommend the 15 firmware. But, I've been using SV7 for months and months. Its really very solid and much more solid than any X.0.0 from a vendor such as Microsoft. There are likely to be a bug or two in it, as in any and all software. But there is no reason to wait if you want a feature that is in SC7. I'm not sure what the exact process is for updating from SqueezeNetwork, but while playing an Internet Radio station I held down the brightness key until an upgrade download was forced. The download was successful but the update failed again. In the meantime I downgraded SlimServer on the PC to the 6.5.1 release (with the 71 firmware) and the server/player combo work fine. If I install SlimServeer 6.5.4, the SB3 tries to upgrade to firmware 81 and fails. I wouldn't avoid 6.5.2 simply because you've seen a few horror stories. Remember that most people will only post if they have problems or need help, which implies that the majority of 6.5.2 installations have gone smoothly (mine included). -- dSw dSw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=362 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35697 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

thesil;205521 Wrote: maybe, but my SB3 has been playing perfectly, and after reading the horror stories about the new download, I do not want to fix what aint broken FYI, we're up to 6.5.2 now (you keep mentioning 6.5.1). Inevitably there are people who have trouble but it's very stable, in my experience far better than 6.5.0 and would really recommend that you upgrade. Regardless, here are the instructions you seek: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=180849postcount=8 Note that that post was written a little while ago and refers to firmware 75; you will need to substitute the latest firmware #--I think we're at 81 at this point. Also, while the consensus seems to be that firmware associated with 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 is interoperable (squeezenetwork-related changes only, I believe), I'm not at all confident that the latest firmware will work flawlessly with 6.5.0. Perhaps someone else can weigh in on that. -- azinck3 azinck3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3967 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35697 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Firmware download
I installed SlimServer for the first time about a month ago. I installed a build of 6.5.2. I've never used 6.5.1 (or earlier). When I got my Squeezeboxes, I installed firmware 81. While I've had questions about how to get things to work for me or for clarification about SlimServer, I've never had a problem that I can associate specifically to 6.5.2. So, count me as a happy user of 6.5.2. Of course, I belong to the camp of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But if there are features in 6.5.2 that you want or bug fixes that you need, then upgrade. -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35697 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] firmware upgrade
It gets the latest version from whatever you have on your computer. If you look in slimserver/Firmware for 6.5.1 you will have squeezebox2_72.bin You have two choices: - grab squeezebox2_81.bin and squeezebox2.version from 6.5.2 and place them in this folder, or - goto SqueezeNetwork/Pandora and the box will update to 81, and then, before signing off SN, edit the squeezebox2.version file changing every occurrance of 72 to 81 -- bonze QNAP TS-101 (version 2.0.1 build 0302T) SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11206 - Debian - EN - utf8 2 x wireless SB3 Player Firmware Version: 81 bonze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35664 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Firmware update when switching to SlimServer
Anytime i switch between the squeezenetwork and SlimServer, my SP3 requires a firmware update. Upon restart, I must set up my network settings. It will then switch back to the squeezenetwork without a problem, but if I use Pandora, it will require another firmware update. After that update, I do not have to set up the network. It has followed this same pattern 3 or 4 times in a row.
