Re: [slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-05-12 Thread aubuti

That's correct that it is not supported, and moreover, there are no
plans to make it release-ready. It is maintained as a developers' tool,
and available as a perpetual-beta product to end users. I've never tried
using it as an over-the-internet player, but it works fine for me on
Windows or Ubuntu as a controller for hardware SBs on the local
network. It works fine for me as a software player on Windows, and once
I get my Ubuntu soundcard issues sorted out I expect it can be a
software player there, too. YMMV and all that.

Re: [slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-05-12 Thread mrfantasy

I use Squeezeplay for Windows all the time. Basic functionality works
great. It's a little wonky on initial configuration and things like
the Facebook plugin don't work right (actually, anything SqueezeNetwork
related doesn't seem to work right since it's not a physical player.)
Eventually I can get it to connect to my remote library and all is
well.

I'm not sure what you're including on anything SqueezeNetwork
related, but a number of the streaming services do work with
Squeezeplay connected to mysqueezebox.com: Last.fm, Slacker, Live Music
Archive, Live365, and probably others.

Napster works on Squeezeplay via SBS if you install the WMA plugin, but
it won't work directly from mysb.com. Pandora works on Squeezeplay if
you're a subscriber.

As far as I know, SqueezePlay isn't supported in any shape or form, and
it's too buggy to be at all useful.

I have gone back to Softsqueeze. Yes, it uses a lot more CPU, but at
least it works.

Actually the SqueezePlay interface is quite different from the older
players, such as SB, SB2, SB3/Classic, Transporter, and Boom.

I am pretty sure it can be used outside the local network. You should
be able to connect to a remote server via Settings Advanced
Networking Remote Libraries Add new library, but I've never tried
it myself. All the usual cautions about secure transmission, opening of
your server to the internet, etc apply. If you value any of the
information on your server, you want to be sure of what you are doing.

Re: [slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-05-07 Thread oivindi

I never get the menu choices you mention when I launch Squeezeplay from
outside my home network, so I guess it won't work.

Besides there's a serious audio playback bug where you can only play
music through the speakers of your mac, and not through, say, a sound
card, so it's pretty irrelevant at this point anyways.

(I reported the audio bug a week or two ago, but no fix as of yet).

My problem with SqueezePlay is that I can no longer access my server
over the night at port 9000. SqueezePlay doesn't allow you to access
your server unless it's LOCAL. Am I missing something here?

I liked SoftSqueeze much better

What, are these trick questions? See my answer in post #2 in this
thread. I directed you to 7.5, which is the latest release version,
but I suppose you could use 7.6 instead
(http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.6). Whichever you
choose will be beta software, because Squeezeplay is likely to be beta
forever. And the latest version will change on a more or less nightly
basis, but don't worry about that.

Squeezeplay is confusing.

Most confusing: Is it possible to use it outside of the local network,
like Softsqueeze?

I can't see any mention of it anywhere.

[slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-04-20 Thread lreinstein

I have an SB3 and would like to run the Squeezebox Desktop which I
understand replaces the Jive Squeezeplay etc.

I do not see where/how to download this. Please Please advise.

I have had my SB3 for several years but have recently only been using
it on the MySqueezebox.com for Pandora. I have not been using it
through the squeezeserver software on my MacBook. Instead I have been
using iTunes with Airport Express to play my music. But, I would like
to try using the SB3 again for this.

I did download the Squeezeserver 7.5 and it is running but I would like
the desktop interface

thanks

Larry

Squeezeplay is a program that lets you play music through your
computer's speakers.

If you want the desktop control of the server, open a web-browser and
go to either:

http://localhost:9000

or

http://127.0.0.1:9000

Or, since you are looking at this in a web-browser, click the above.

OK, It's squeezeplay as mentioned by aubuti.

You can also use the old softsqueeze which is available as a plugin.
