sounds like you need to edit the tag information that is encoded within
your FLAC files.

In which case you need a tag editor: there are many, but here is one
commonly used (and free!).

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

Download, install, change any tag info you like. You may need to tell
slimserver to wipe its cache to make it re-read the info.

Try Server Settings - Rescan Music Library with the 'clear library' box
checked.

Thanks. I had just tried renaming files, then rescanning (with clear
library checked), but it didn't work. I'll try the TAG editor.

I use the program MP3Tag, which allows you to view and edit all the tags
in single directory of tracks. It fully supports FLAC files. After
making changes, make sure you have slimserver clear the cache, and
rescan your files.
The program is free, and available at http://www.mp3tag.de/en

Cheers sleepy (appropriate name, that's what Ceejay had recommended :))

That's done the job perfectly.

Now to decide what to do about multi disk albums. I could change the
track numbers and make it all one album, but I'll try and give this
serverbehaviorgroup disks thing a go.

Not sure if disk title should include (Disc 1) at the end or not. I'll
experiment.

It all depends on what you want, but I decided to make the initial CD
formatting be a minor concern with how my library is structured.
I am not strictly consistant, but I usually renumber the tracks and
consider a two or three CD album to be one big one.

OTOH, I often split classical albums apart, because they often
have works by two composers and I often don't like the pairings.
So I'll have separate albums for the Beethoven part and
for the Bach part.

Yep, that's what I'm going for with compilation albums. I'm not sure
what the server setting does, but if I follow the names on the
database, the disks are treated as individual albums, with a disk
number attached - which is a bit pony. I've just used that editor to
change the track numbers.

Cheers

Add tags to your flac files named DISC (disc number) and DISCC (disc
count) to files in those multidisk sets. This is easy to do with
MP3tag.
