[slim] Re: Ok, really frustrated here...
I installed the beta on Ubuntu tonight and it was very easy. 1) added deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main to my /etc/atp/sources.list file 2) did sudo apt-get install slimserver which gave a ton of dependency errors. 3) did sudo apt-get -f install which downloaded all the dependencies and installed slimserver. I'm not sure why #2 and #3 required two steps and that apt didn't just download the needed dependencies in step 3, but slimserver was up and running so quick I didn't have time to worry about it. -- NWP NWP's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3730 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I haven't tried the RPM. What I do is download the perl source code (tar.gz), unzip it to a subdirectory of my home directory and then start it manually in its own terminal screen: /home/username/slimserver/slimserver.pl One benefit of this is any errors are logged to the screen, so if the process dies, you can see what the trouble was. I've run slimserver for months at a time via this method and it works well. This might be an effective way to run slimserver until the issues with the RPM are straightened out. -- Pale Blue Ego Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Basically everything in the thread I linked is what is going on today. I always select Mandriva's development tools when doing the install. I did not see the link to Mandriva specific instructions on the wiki page before - thanks for pointing to it. I will double check all the packages. All I can say though is when I run build_perl_db (or whatever it is, I'm going from memory) is it says things are ok at the end, but still never works when I ./slimservr.pl Still, regarding the RPM, if it is as worthless as it seems, it should be redone. Picking say the 5 most popular ones and producing an RPM for each should not that difficult. Mandriva would even handle any of the dependancies if the RPM would tell it what is needed. -- Rockin Rockin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=757 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

/usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl my results are:The following modules failed to load: DBD::SQLite To download and compile them, please run: /usr/local/slimserver/Bin/build-perl-modules.pl After doing that (and it reports ok at the end) the next /usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl shows the same exact output. -- Rockin Rockin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=757 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
