Hi,

Just installed 1.52 on a HTC HD and works well dont know why I havent
sorted this sooner!

One small question, is it possible to list the albums in artist order
rather than album title order, had a good look through the settings I
could find. This is how I have the controller set and other music
devices so it seems strange to use, not a major problem would probably
get used to it if its not possible!

running on PC. I now consider buying Squeezebox Touch in short time and

to cooperate with mini- server built in Squeezebox Touch - without
having a PC computer running server application (sometimes I don't want
to turn on PC)?

2011-01-31 Thread mightydob

Thanks for a great program :) Been using if on my WM PDA for a couple
of week now and its great and runs seamlessly with multiple versions of
Squeeze play on laptops, should be getting a touch in the next week
which I am sure will work just as well.

I was wondering if you could have the artist showing when you are
browsing by album. It shows the Year and indicates various artists
when relevant, but it does not give you any indication when it is a
single artist. I have quite a few best of Albums etc which are all
called the same

The only other slight issue is the indicator telling you that you have
added a track to the play list. It flashes up so quickly at the top of
the screen that my wife keeps missing it and adds the track again.
probably be something she gets used to though :)

Once again great program!

If you press the power button in the menu, you should see another power

Hey Marcin

Sorry it took me so long to answer.
Somehow I'm not getting any email notification from this thread.

I would really like to fix that problem you're describing.
Would you send me the mp3-tag information of that particular album.

That is:
album name
artist name

Or even better:
Send me one mp3 track from that album.
I will then include it in my library and find the cause of the
problem.

You can send the track to

sb -at- sciatec.de

I will get back to you ASAP

Re: [slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now

2010-10-03 Thread Locuth

Hi there.

That 'download from amazon' feature checks amazon for covers of the
selected album.
The user-interface for that feature isn't very sophisticated.
When you tap the 'amazon' icon - watch the status bar (at the top)
closely.
It will say 'no covers found' or 'xxx covers found'.

If no covers were found the icon simply disappears.
If more than one cover was found the 1st cover will be displayed.
The icon will stay visible and you can press it again for the next
cover.

It all depends on the quality of your mp3-tags.
If they are proper there's a good chance to find a matching cover.

Make sure album artist and album name are properly tagged.
And try a common album first.

Sebastian

Or is this occurring regularly?
It might have to to with old registry entries from previous versions.

You might also like:

Great app,, just registered.

Using ATT Tilt2 - Custom ROM 6.5+

One question?

Is there an easy way to back up from the current screen I select?

Menu is fairly intuitive, however there are a lot of time when I select
an option, then the screen slides across with my selection.

However I have not discovered any sort of back button that will bring
me back to my previous screen.

Maybe I am missing something but many times I get on a screen that I
can't back out of to my previous screen. Basically I have to figure
out the 'home' type button and then re-navigate..

I'm I missing something easy, or is it not possible?

Hopefully this question makese sense?

Firstly, thanks for a GREAT app - this works so well on my HTC Touch

I have a few questions:
- When typing a search using the in-built phone-style keypad, if you
need to type the same letter twice is there a way of doing this without
waiting a few seconds between each keypress? (currently if you press the
same letter twice quickly it will skip to the next letter assigned to
that numeric key)

- Are there any plans to support hardware keyboards, such as that on
the HTC Touch Pro2?

- When viewing search results for a track, is there any way of telling
which album each track is from? I commonly search for a track and can't
tell the difference between several different versions (I have alot of
live recordings in my collection!).

Thanks for a great product...

It still shows the artist, when it's Various artists.

That is by design. Various artists is how the DUET controller labels
compilations. So I do it the same way. It's not a true artist name.

It never loads the artist at a later time. I hade the impression that
it would load that infomation later just like the album artwork.

I forgot to mention this:
The album-artist will only be determined if you query like:
Artist XXX - Album YYY
or
Artist XXX - All albums

New music is still using the old query and times out.

Thanks - I'll fix it.

The album-list in artist X still times out.

Oh - I understood that worked in your environment.
Will have to lower the # of albums per query chunk.

All tracks from artist X also times out after approx. 180 tracks.

Hadn't found the time to change that query yet - sorry Muele

I don't understand the need for a 10 second timeout for the indexing.
As long as I can see the counter going up, I'm content. And it's only on
the first listing. Subsequently the lists are there instantly

Convinced!

Idea: Make indexing start in the background as soon as SlimCtrl starts.
Or make it possible to trigger a reindexing without timeout from the
 settings-pane.

That would (once again) take me into multithreading hell^^.
It's sleek once it works, but it's so much work to implement properly.

Thanks so much for your notes.

(So I can stick to my 10sec timeout - pippin ^^)

If I could have a sample logfile of SC timing out while querying

OK. So the typical selection of some music to play requires, what, 5
queries (you can have less if you know exactly what to play and how to
find it, but that's not the only use case) so every 4ths try will fail.
Plus you will see those clustered around:
- people with lower spec servers (as of my experience: ~30 of SB users,
those with a NAS)
- people browsing by Genre since this query is incredibly slow... wait:
do you support Genres at all, can't remember right now.
- people using long playlists, these hurt server performance
dramatically
- people using transcoding

Some of these might find the result completely unusable.

2010-03-05 Thread Locuth

pippin;522731 Wrote:

In MyMusic the longest would be
Genre 'Rock' - Artist 'U2' - Album 'Rattle And Hum' - Track 'All
along the watchtower' = 4 queries

But most people will prbly add an album or something.

so every 4ths try will fail.

Well, I think that depends on the 'distribution'.
It could be anything like e.g.:

95% users with reasonably speedy servers (like my 1.5Ghz 7 year old
Athlon) would have 0.5% timeouts
And 5% users would have 90% timeouts.

Plus you will see those clustered around:
 - people browsing by Genre since this query is incredibly slow... wait:
do you support Genres at all, can't remember right now.

Yes, but the thing is, when you browse via genre-artist-album, the
queries become much faster, because they return only few items.

Now that I think about it:
It's actually impossible to give a fail rate. So my 5% ballpark was
pretty ignorant.

My approach was the following:
Every query is divided in chunks of n elements.
And I chose n so that (in my environment) each chunk response returns
with 1-2 seconds.
And the timeout is 10 sec.

Maybe it's better to interpret the 5% like so:
In 5% of all thinkable use-cases will a query fail.
in 95% it will not fail.

so it will never fail for the average user
(never :=  0.0001 % e.g.)

Maybe we should talk about this on the phone.
It seems to be on your mind too :-)

Remember the 80/20 rule?
I am poing by the 95/5 rule with a 10sec timeout
You are taking the 98/2 route with a 30sec timeout;-)

Oh and as to ruining some people's program experience.
What's there to ruin if it takes 10 seconds to query a couple of
albums, or a single image.
These people are having no fun anyways.

But there are some issues.

It still shows the artist, when it's Various artists.

It never loads the artist at a later time. I hade the impression that
it would load that infomation later just like the album artwork.

Year is load loaded at all. (I don't care much about that)

New music is still using the old query and times out.

The album-list in artist X still times out.

Sebastian,

I said you can have less than 5 queries when you know what you are
looking for.
What you state is the BEST case, not the worst. The worst case is
something like looking into all of your albums twice until you know what
go play.
Have a look at how people USE an app, not at mere test cases.

But hey, after all: it's your App, not mine :)

it actually performs resonably well (good enough that I wont cash out

I think i will try enabling the SB server on the desktop pc at home and
connect to that to see how performance compares. Still not a state of
the art machine, but comparable to a typical netbook.

For load-comparison, the largest artist in my library has 21 albums,

If it needs to be removed though, would it be possible to make it

Without it checked, a basic query would be sent to the server, with it,

I have already cleared the cache.
Now I get 20 albums with 13b2 and 3 but 21 with 1.32. I also get no
keyboard-button in albums. I do in genres and artists. I have 368
albums.

Muele you can manually verify the content of the cache.
In the root directory, or where ever you have selected to put the
cache:
/SlimCtrl/long-UUID/SC_alb5.dat

it's a text file.

See if that corresponds to what you are seeing maybe.

The cachefile is identical to the list in slimctrl.

I tried deleting the file. Now I'm down to 15 albums agian.

To all new users

On the SC registration webpage you can now leave feedback
why you decided not not get the full version.

I'd be happy to learn what keeps you...

Oh, and if anybody thinks it's unethical to dicuss these issues here.
Now that SC has turned somewhat commercial - let me know too.

Remember that the close SC community with all their valuable feedback
will always get their hands on the latest update for nada.

Have a good weekend.

2010-02-26 Thread Muele

How would you like to handle support/bugreporting? Pippin does it here,
So I guess Logitech thinks it's ok.

I am unbale to sync players with 1.3

With 1.3b3 it works.

Please see attached screendump.

Also when I browse albums, I only see the first 15 or 18 albums. When I
try 1.3b3 it's the same. E.g artists are ok.

Cool - I tried to make one myself. But the quality was much worse...

Instead I created some videos for the SC webpage.

Maybe you'd like to check them out:

[slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now

2010-02-19 Thread Locuth

Hello Everybody

SlimCtrl 1.3 is out and available for download on my web site.
To those of you who are familiar with SlimCtrl the most prominent new
features are:

- Wake-On-Lan(*)
- Auto Server discover (unless a server is already configured)
- Lyrics and snchronized Lyrics ( Karaoke - if you will)
- Players on SN are listed in the player list and may be
- More icons in the browser; radio stations, flickr, facebook
- IR-Blaster compatible volume control

- A couple of bugs and many minor grahics issues fixed
- Improved power managment and faster wakeup from standby.

To those of new to SlimCtrl:
It's is a windows mobile based remote control for Squeezebox Server.
Proven to work with PDA's and smartphones running WM 2003 ... WM 6.5.

There is a manual available for download on the download page.
It's not up to date but I'll give you the idea.

Or you just give it a try - it's pretty inuitive.

--
*) To activate WOL for already configured server:
Hit the test button in the settings once. If the server is behind a
router you'll probably get a notice that WOL will not work.
