Hi, Just installed 1.52 on a HTC HD and works well dont know why I havent sorted this sooner! One small question, is it possible to list the albums in artist order rather than album title order, had a good look through the settings I could find. This is how I have the controller set and other music devices so it seems strange to use, not a major problem would probably get used to it if its not possible! Thanks for a great program :) Been using if on my WM PDA for a couple of week now and its great and runs seamlessly with multiple versions of Squeeze play on laptops, should be getting a touch in the next week which I am sure will work just as well. I was wondering if you could have the artist showing when you are browsing by album. It shows the Year and indicates various artists when relevant, but it does not give you any indication when it is a single artist. I have quite a few best of Albums etc which are all called the same The only other slight issue is the indicator telling you that you have added a track to the play list. It flashes up so quickly at the top of the screen that my wife keeps missing it and adds the track again. probably be something she gets used to though :) Once again great program! -- mightydob mightydob's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43507 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75455 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now
Hi there. That 'download from amazon' feature checks amazon for covers of the selected album. The user-interface for that feature isn't very sophisticated. When you tap the 'amazon' icon - watch the status bar (at the top) closely. It will say 'no covers found' or 'xxx covers found'. If no covers were found the icon simply disappears. If more than one cover was found the 1st cover will be displayed. The icon will stay visible and you can press it again for the next cover. It all depends on the quality of your mp3-tags. If they are proper there's a good chance to find a matching cover. Make sure album artist and album name are properly tagged. And try a common album first. Well, I think that depends on the 'distribution'. It could be anything like e.g.: 95% users with reasonably speedy servers (like my 1.5Ghz 7 year old Athlon) would have 0.5% timeouts And 5% users would have 90% timeouts. Plus you will see those clustered around: - people browsing by Genre since this query is incredibly slow... wait: do you support Genres at all, can't remember right now. Yes, but the thing is, when you browse via genre-artist-album, the queries become much faster, because they return only few items. Now that I think about it: It's actually impossible to give a fail rate. So my 5% ballpark was pretty ignorant. My approach was the following: Every query is divided in chunks of n elements. And I chose n so that (in my environment) each chunk response returns with 1-2 seconds. And the timeout is 10 sec. Maybe it's better to interpret the 5% like so: In 5% of all thinkable use-cases will a query fail. in 95% it will not fail. so it will never fail for the average user (never := 0.0001 % e.g.) Maybe we should talk about this on the phone. It seems to be on your mind too :-) Remember the 80/20 rule? I am poing by the 95/5 rule with a 10sec timeout You are taking the 98/2 route with a 30sec timeout;-) Oh and as to ruining some people's program experience. What's there to ruin if it takes 10 seconds to query a couple of albums, or a single image. These people are having no fun anyways. -- Locuth Use your PDA/Phone as SqueezeBox remote -- http://sc.sciatec.de Locuth's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29693 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75455 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now
Thank you. I have tried 1.33 a bit. The timeout issue in albums has been solved. But there are some issues. It still shows the artist, when it's Various artists. It never loads the artist at a later time. I hade the impression that it would load that infomation later just like the album artwork. Year is load loaded at all. (I don't care much about that) New music is still using the old query and times out. The album-list in artist X still times out. All tracks from artist X also times out after approx. 180 tracks. I don't understand the need for a 10 second timeout for the indexing. As long as I can see the counter going up, I'm content. And it's only on the first listing. Subsequently the lists are there instantly Idea: Make indexing start in the background as soon as SlimCtrl starts. Or make it possible to trigger a reindexing without timeout from the settings-pane. We posted acroos each other :) I just want to say, that if you choose to not support the buttom 5% performing servers I will understand. You should probably warn on your website then though. Funny thing is that I never say my server as that lowend. I think there are a lot of NAS'es out there with SBS that are performing a lot worse. I think it's performing fully acceptable on the SBC and Radio almost all the time. What about a 50.000 track collection running on a decent server? Will that not time out every time? Sebastian, I said you can have less than 5 queries when you know what you are looking for. What you state is the BEST case, not the worst. The worst case is something like looking into all of your albums twice until you know what go play. Have a look at how people USE an app, not at mere test cases. Re: [slim] SlimCtrl 1.3 out now
Cool - I tried to make one myself. But the quality was much worse... Instead I created some videos for the SC webpage. They were captured off the PC-screen. Showing some use-cases for SlimControl. Maybe you'd like to check them out: http://sc.sciatec.de/sc_Interface.shtml Thanks for creating this video.
