Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
The SB2 also remains my favorite product, the Touch is a worthy successor, the Boom a great add on. The Duet was a mis-step - as I got a replacement battery for the controller I realized the concept is not made to last. That will probably be the last time the battery is available. :( My mother loves her SB Radio, which allows her to listen to stations from the mother country all day long. Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
First of all, I'm glad to have found this Community. Have been reading for hours and days, before I bought my SB products, and now that I have them I still keep reading and learning. (You'll note I wrote SB product*s*). You see, just a few days ago I bought a new Touch. Connected to my vacuum tubed power amps, DIY dac and Vandersteen 2C speakers, it blew me away. What's more, it was on sale for $50 off!! Then just a day later, I saw the same store had the SBRadio on sale also for $50 off. Took it home (for the bedroom). Sync'd them up and now the cat is grooving to 500+ jazz stations, not to mention his personal library, yeah man!! I always have to have good, swingin' music flowing through the house. Used to have XM satellite. It was OK until the merger with Sirius, after which it went down the tubes for my tastes. Cancelled the subs and dumped all my Sat-Rad gear. So to end this unabashed fan letter, I'm so happy to have discovered Logitech SB. I love it. It's changed my musical life! I'm sure the people from Logitech look in here sometimes. To them I say: Please accept my most enthusiastic Thank You !! jazzcat -- jazzcat jazzcat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=51962 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91687 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
I've stated it in other threads, but it's true that my Duet and Boom have changed the way I listen to music. Music has always been important to me, but just having local stations and a few CD's kept me from having it on all the time and, more importantly, exposing myself to more depth and breadth of music of all types. Now music surrounds me all the time, with services and stations that constantly expose me to new music and genres. Who'd have believed a few years ago that I could go to sleep listening to traditional Scandinavian music and wake up to Latin Pop direct from Mexico City? I hope that these devices continue to be developed and sold for some time to come. I will be one of the first to but the next generation Boom when it comes out. Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
Thank you Squeezebox to help me to clear the living room. I get rid of tuner and cd player. My disks are now in shoesboxes in a storage place. I truly enjoy the quality of sound of this device, even from Internet radios. Also, it's far more easy to listen music from Squeezebox Server than a from a CD collection. And, for a classical music lover, the internet radios open a rich world. I listen more music with Squeezebox. I didn't experienced the problems noted with the server updates. Perharps I was lucky. But I am not a power user. I use the server only to listen two or three FM internet radios and to browse my classical music by folders (composers). Finally, I was impressed by the Logitech Service. I bought a SB3 two years ago. After one year, the display disappeared in the middle of the screen. They shipped me a Touch to replace the faulty unit! Now the sound is better and I have a weather Station when the Touch is off. -- boun01 boun01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=51276 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91687 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
Fantastic thread. I wonder how many other products can boast such a thread. For my own part, I still have the feeling that I came to the party a bit late - I think my first SB product was an SB3, probably about 6 years ago, although I do have a couple of earlier models that I THINK I bought off ebay later on, one of which I took apart and built into my DIY pre-amp. I still have the SB3 in regular use, alongside a Touch, a Boom and a couple of Radios. Like most people here, the SB ecosystem reignited my passion for music, and I'm sure this is what led to me building my own pre-amp, power amp and speakers. Without a doubt though, the stand-out feature for me is the ability to have the whole house blasting out the same music in perfect synch. It still makes me smile when my kids tell me to turn my music down. Slim Devices changed my life. I have always been an avid listener, LPs, CDs, radio, and short wave broadcasts. Slim Devices brought short wave listening up to high end stereo. I listen to BBC, France Musique or Radio Orfey from Moscow at CD quality. I have a few SB2, SB3, Radio and Touch. I am very fond of the white SB3 I have with the Slim Device logo. No other gadget has stood the test of time as well as my Slim Devices players have. I have 1 SB1, 3 SB1g's, an SB2, and a Duet that I use daily. They all do what I need them to do brilliantly, and they've only gotten more capable over the years. I'll echo what others have said about the VFD-based models being the best. Agreed. Ive been around since SB2/3 and slimserver 6. Best money I've ever spent on any electronics. It has literally transformered how I can listen to music. I'd still be happy even if things hadn't changed since then. The fact that it has evolved with Internet music streaming.for freeis a bonus. Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
I'd be devastated if my SB players stopped working. They are the best gadgets in our house - and we have a LOT of gadgets :-) I have an SB3 in the kitchen, SB3 in the study, and a Boom in the bedroom. I also have a gap on the shelf ready to take another player when I can afford it (I want another SB3 but can't get one, so it'll have to be the touch which is unnecessary). I can't remember which SB player I bought first, but it was the one where the new screen was released and you could buy the new display and fit it yourself, bending back one of the terminals inside. I bet the warranty lawyers had nightmares over that! So, one very happy SB household here. There's always a few bugs with the software but there is with all software. But the music plays, and plays well. Two requests from me: 1) Please don't ever discontinue the SB product line 2) Please don't ever discontinue the Linux distribution. (I run a Ubuntu x64 VM on my Windows server, purely for Squeezeboxserver/Logitechmediaserver, as I prefer the Linux approach for this stuff). Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
The original SLIM guys had a vision and it's actually stood the test of time well. I still have a couple of SLIMP3's being used as well as every other box except boom, now in every room in the house except batroom! (yep, garage, shed, hall, conservatory etc.). To my mind, the SB3 was an excellent device with no hassle. Logitech have tried to make the devices more capable and complex recently, but maybe a cut-price simple device where you don't have to be a geek or a nerd to make it all work would sell well. I know a few folk who gave up on Touch's and bought instead all SB3's for their simplicity (and they just work). I don't think the players are in their twilight - with the new Android and IOS apps as controllers I believe they have a new lease of life. -- yeomanspc yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91687 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
Just spent a whole afternoon into early evening yesterday reading newspapers and articles with my SB3 playing into my big system (with the Electrocompaniet DAC and integrated amp). I made all my selections, playlists and repeats from my iPhone using iPeng. I read a Stereophile article about an old Steve Earle album, and immediately pulled it up on my SB3 to listen to it while reading. It was like being able to click a highlighted link in the article--instant music. I was thinking, after several hours of this, how amazingly easy it was and how enjoyable. I had meant at some point to start playing some new jazz LPs I had, but never got around to it because the SB3 experience was just so easy and relaxing, and to play LPs I'd have to jump up every 15 mins or so and clean the record, flip it, etc etc. Wow the difference from the good old days. -- sc53 Living Room ~ Touch Benchmark DAC Audio Research CA-2 ProAc D15 Bedroom ~ Boom Kitchen ~ SB3 NAD 747 ATC SCM 12 Listening Room ~ SB3 Electrocompaniet ECD 1 DAC Electrocompaniet ECI 3 Genesis 500 sc53's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8690 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91687 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Thank you Slim Devices.
Gather round kids, story time. I have purchased the following (in order,)a squeezebox boom, squeezebox duet, squeezebox radio and a squeezebox2. The Boom was my first Squeezebox I purchased. It wasn't cheap, but I wasn't disappointed. It was worth the money. It has a slightly clumsy way of getting stuff done, but it did what it was supposed to it did it very very well. Then I purchased my Duet - this was great, but I didn't use it as much as my Boom. It was missing something, a type of Love. (I don't know what it is exactly, but the Boom has it, and the Duet doesn't). It is not worth the money. I like the device, but not happy, or delighted. Then I purchased the Radio. It was worse. I mean, it looks great, it functions as expected (most of the time). The battery pack is neat (so neat, it shouldn't be optional). I like the handle and the round look, but it's still missing something (love?). I'm happy with the purchase, but still not delighted. As a user who has had many years of enjoyment, my most recent addition has delivered the most delight to me - i.e. Slim Devices Squeezebox2. It's easy to use, it offers everything a device in it's class should. It does what it's supposed to. I does its job very well. It's simple, yet delivers much more than I expected. I am happy with the purchase. I am delighted. It is old. It isn't good looking (by modern standards). But I don't care. Take all my other squeezeboxes away, leave me my Squeezebox2. I'll stay happy. To the pioneers who were the first - thank you. The Squeezebox2 has delivered the most delight to me so far. I love it. I love it. I really really love it. There are no words to express how I feel, there really isn't. I am just so very delighted. Something has changed Slim Devices. I don't know how things are internally at Logitech, but get back that love.
