[slim] Transporter, what do I need to use it?
Sorry but I am new to this digital music thing. I have a NAD integrated amplifier and got rid of my CD player and want to playback my .wav files from my computer with the best sound quality at a reasonable price. Does a transporter plug into my NAD and if so do I get the benefits of the transporter DAC? Also, is a Peachtree Nova the same thing as a Transporter? Re: [slim] Transporter, what do I need to use it?
yes, transporter would output directly to your integrated preamp/amp. You'll need a computer at home running SqueezeboxServer (SbS) (with access to the drive with your music files). And you'll need a Local Area Network so that you can connect the transporter to the LAN either wired or wireless. Best situation is that both the transporter and the computer with SbS are wired to your LAN. 2nd best is that computer with SbS is wired to LAN (router) and Transporter is WIFI. WIFI can work really well if you have strong signal, etc. You might also want to explore using FLAC (lossless) rather than WAV. Much better for tagging, etc., takes 1/2 the space, and is still LOSSLESS. And Squeezebox plays these natively. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75928 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I also have both, I think the tTransporter is more robust than a Duet in a WI-FI environment (I've had each in the same stereo rack). I also think (key word is think) the Transporter sounds better. It also has a very nice display and finally I think it would look much nicer that a Duet sitting next to your NAD equipment. -- Squeezed_Rotel John M SqueezeCenter 7.3.4 running on a DIY HTPC, Windows 7 64 bit with Inguz Audio EQ/DRC. +1 Also, there will come a time when you don't want your main computer running when you want to listen to music. A low-power dedicated server is the next logical step MS -- MadScientist MadScientist's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75928 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
