 Sometimes.
I must be one of the lucky ones - but all the time.
I have a PC (winxp squeezeslave ASIO - Behringer UCA202 - receiver -
speakers) in one room and my hifi stack with SB3 in an adjoining room.
Both systems are using the DAC in the attached receiver. SB server's
running on a third machine, a server of all things, in the basement.
Everything's hard wired.
I can often hear audio from both systems simultaneously, and detect no
out-of-synchronization, even when walking between rooms. Yes, I'm aware
of the way that our auditory apparatus will damp out early reflections,
so synch is probably not perfect.
As I remember, squeezeslave's got some timing adjustments available.
I've not needed them, though.

If I'm not just very lucky, I'm doing something that folks with synch
problems are not doing. Or some combination, including luck, of
course...

2010-12-19 Thread eeagle

SqueezePlay is a great way to explore the menu system similar to that
found on the Radio, Duet, or Touch.

I use SqueezePlay frequently for streaming radio on my PC's.

Serious listening of your lossless collection should be done with a
player, and maybe even an external DAC.

If your house is big perfect sync may not be an issue, as you wont
overhear the players that much..

You have SqueePlay, softsqueeze and squeezeslave to pick from.

See the wiki pages linked here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Category:Software_players. In
brief:

SoftSqueeze is a Java-based software SB that emulates the interface on
older SBs, such as SB3/Classic, Transporter, etc. It is currently being
maintained by the SB community.

Squeezeplay is a desktop (or laptop) implementation of the software
that runs on the SB Controller, Touch, and Radio. It is developed by
Logitech, but only as a development tool, and will probably never be
officially released -- it's beta forever.

squeezeslave is another SB community project that streams music from an
SB server. It has no graphical user interface, only commandline.

Note that sync'ing of software players is an inexact science, and
generally does not work perfectly. But some people get lucky.
Sometimes.

Note also that if you use SoftSqueeze, go to this site and get the Java
MP3 Plugin for quality improvement:

https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/viewproductdetail-start?productref=javamp3-1_0-oth-...@cds-cds_developer

The program javamp3_1.exe will go in (Windows) \program file\jre6\ ON
THE SBS SERVER machine, not on the client(s.)

Check the settings/audio panel of the SoftSqueeze Player to make sure
it is selected as the MP3 Decoder since I don't remember if I had to
change that manually.
