I would think that a normal user should only be allowed to add single
songs (without clearing the playing playlist). And with a power-user
password or user-customisable button-presses, should open up to allow
adding more than one song at a time (Dynamic-Playlists, MusicIP,
Genres, etc.). This to me would seem userfriendly and secure.

Interface would be Duet, web and what most people use. I have no idea.
(I'm a duet controller fan myself).

PS. Erland, I thank you for the great Dyn playlist, trackstat and other
of your fabulous plugins. You really make the world a better place...

Does this mean that we need to disallow usage of Internet radio in this
mode ?
Or are there any Internet radio station supported that allows you to
select to play a single song ?

Yes, it does. From the old Party Mode enhancement request:

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8878

Permit playing music only from the local library. Don't allow playing
 of
Internet Radio or Music Services, either of which will wipe out the
 playlist.
Also, don't permit playing Random Mix, Favorites, or Playlists.
 Browsing
should be confined to Albums, Artists, Years, Genres and New Music.

Don't allow a track to be entered if it's already in the playlist.
 It's too
easy for someone new to the system to accidentally queue up the same
 song
multiple times. And as a party host, you generally don't want people
 playing
 the same song over again.

Thanks for the reply - I hadn't thought too deeply about the various
problems/ possibilities - more of a case of having tried and liked a
few of your plugins and wondering if you had any thoughts on the
 matter.
A plugin redefining the play command to offer a choice of play next
or add to end of playlist is all I was thinking of.
Again, I hadn't thought about different interfaces either. From my
own point of view it would be duet, boom, ipeng, and the web interface!

I had a look into the old wiki entry and see following:

Playlist and Party Mode have been removed from Squeezebox Server
version 7.4 because of conflicts with the new press-to-play behavior.
This is an unfortunate regression but this feature never emerged from
beta status and we're hoping to do a much better baked solution in
future releases, hopefully as early as 7.5

What does it mean for the future?

2010-04-29 Thread FredFredrickson

Don't get us wrong- a lot of the vocal complainers on here are major
squeezebox addicts as well. I think it should be said that the gripes
are gripes of love- a lot of people care so much about their
squeezeboxes they don't want to see anything bad happen to the product
line.. and every time logitech silently makes a decision or botches
something, it ripples through the community.

But this overwhelming emotion pouring out on the forum is out of love,
because let's face it, the squeezebox is ahead of its time and is the
coolest damn tech product known to man. Long live squeezebox.

Are you telling me it can be passed on to my children? It's in the
genes? I will not tell the children until they can support themselves.

I am glad I have a strong support group. Thanks bros and sis's.

Don't succumb to the propoganda of Squeezebox Madness - tell your
children and let them participate. The War again Squeezebox Madness is
a sham! My children all have squeezeboxes and they are well adjusted
law abiding citizens!

2010-04-29 Thread brucegrr

My oldest son now has 2 Squeezeboxes. First one was a used one I sold
him. (a wonderful excuse to enable me to buy another)

The only negative? Dad how do you do_? Or Dad my Squeezebox
is not __. :)

Actually, I don't mind doing the tech support for him. I am a geek. It
is what I do. I like it.

My affair with the Squeezebox is like my marriage of 32 years. I love
my wife. Some days though I don't like her very much. :)

I am a Squeezebox fan boy. But, when it isn't working right or I think
Logitech screwed up...I am quite able and willing to bit*h, moan, and
complain. But divorce? Never.

Ok, then my post is also out of love. I just don't want to bite the
hand that feeds us. So, now I will feel maybe a little more
comfortable when I read some of those gripes. But I think some of
those gripes could be worded with a little more respect for the hand
that feeds us. Anyhow, thanks for the clarification. I'm still an
addict and knowing I have others who are also addictted will help me
deal with it.

Oh I vaguely remember a few times :) But, it has been awhile. (granted
I do not own a Touch or Radio, just a Squeezebox 3 and Boom and
Squeezeplay)

All in all, a solid piece of technology that is used every day in our
home.

I had one Squeezebox fail. (pre-Logitech days) Sent it in.Turned around
quickly (bad board) and now it is in use at my son's house.

With the Squeezebox my music tastes have broadened greatly. I am now
into the 1990's now :) My kids are very surprised to hear what is
playing at the old man's house.

I can't imagine going back to playing cd's the old fashioned way.

Good thread,I too love my 2 booms and sb3. Problem is my wife doesn't
see what all the fuss is about. I wonder how many regular posters are
women, less than 5% maybe even fewer. Are we just geeks in a mans
