I'll need to go through some scenario testing on a test library but it
seems to be inconsistent with the AV sorftware in fact I think it may
be the other way around in that it scans with AV on and bad playlists
unscanned.
I have now put a couple of small good playlists in and it scans ok now
but when I get chance I'll try each scenario
1. Good Playl;ists AV on
2. Bad playlists AV off
3. Good Playlists AV off
4. Bad Playlists AV on

to see what happens. I'll try and capture the lo files for each
seperately as well.

Re: [slim] Scan Stops Early Because Failure To Merge Various Artists

2011-01-25 Thread cliver

OK, I have just done some test scans all without turning off AV.
Some with a bad playlist some with a good playlist and some without any
playlist.
All are running to completion without any errors!

The only thing that may have changed in the files is the tags. I had a
mixture of ID3v1 and ID3v2.3 tags in my mp3's which I have been sorting
out slowly until I realised that Mp3Tag does it in a few clicks.
Could that have been what was causing my scan failures?

Not sure what's happening with my AV. I haven't set up any exclusions
in it or anything but it seems to be ignoring my scans now.
I have the scanner log saved if anyone is interested. I'm no expert but
I don't think it will show anything unusual.

Not sure if I should post this elsewhere but I have just noticed that
some of my Various Artists Albums show Various Artists follwed by a
list of the artists on the album but others don't. Does anyone know why
this might be?
Regards
Clive

Found out what's causing this but not sure how it happened.
Some of the compilation albums had ALBUMARTIST set to
Various Artists // TRACK ARTIST
This isn't something I did on purpose. It there and action to do it

A = track artist only

so you have to fix your tags and do a clear and rescan.

Yes done and all ok now. Although I quite liked the effect of having

Easy CD DA extractor where I have the CD's then Mp3Tag for sorting the

respective tag and you'll be fine.

my advice is not to bastardize the tags, but rather to ask the devs to
make SBS more flexible for how you want to browse.

mp3tag is great. u might consider using EAC or dbpoweramp instead of
what you got for ripping tho.

Tend to agree with your bastardisation comment but as I understand it
it's perfectly aceptable to put more than one name in the album artist
field. Not sure what the correct delimiter is though but whatever did
it to mine used // and it semmed to be ok with it.

I'll look at alternative rippers but I don't think it was that that
caused this as I ripped them ages ago and have been using/playing them
for as long. I think it's something I did recently in Mp3Tag unless SBS
can change anything or possible WinAmp which I know can make changes but
I didn't make any. I tend to use Winamp to brows through and check tags
display ok and to make up playlists as it's quicker.

i use winamp too, but it doesn't support multiple frames or separator
characters as far as i know, (which is fine by me). SBS never changes
your tags btw, read only. fyi, i think the user defines the separator
character to SBS in settings.

i just try to keep it simple. one file, one tag, one value. SBS can
recognize multiple tag/frames/values, but if i were you, i'd get
straight on how it does simple first, before getting creative or
advanced.

Re: [slim] Scan Stops Early Because Failure To Merge Various Artists

2011-01-25 Thread MrSinatra

no, it does id3v2.3 as well. however, it uses FreeDB by default, so you
won't get TPE2/AA tags, b/c i am fairly sure FreeDB doesn't have that
info, or if it does, EAC doesn't record it by default.

warning: EAC is great, its what i use, but its not the easiest. you
will have to google about how to set it up properly. however, its very
good at what it does, and it also allows you via checkmark to rip in
single artist mode, or VA mode, which is great for filename/tagging
construction. search my posts here for more about that and EAC.

I'm sure I can and will try later, it's easy enough to disable while

The odd thing is, since my last post I scanned one album that was
showing double instances and it was fine.
I then scanned all the flac files to see if there was a problem with
them and they scanned fine.
I then scanned all the mp3's and they scanned fine.
So I tried the whole library again and belive it or not they scanned
fine?? Also I had forgotten to disable my AV so it was running the
whole time??
The only other change I made was to point SBS playlists to an empty
folder as my playlists were slowing the scans down.
So I pointed SBS back to my playlists and bingo the problem
re-appeared.
I know some if not all of my playlists are out of date as my files have
moved so I am running without them at the moment. I will try rebuilding
them and add them one at a time to SBS to see if that makes a
difference.
Question: Is there a limit to the number of tracks you can have in a
playlist? some of mine are quite large.
Anyone any experience of playlists causing this kind of issue?

Just to clear my mind does this imply that it matters where the

I export mine from Winamp (which is pointing to the same music libraray
as SBS) and save them in My Music/Playlists.
The music is in My Music/Home Libraray/Flac/... and My Music/Home

Should I move them under the Home Library Directory?
The paths in the playlist are explicit as in

Re: [slim] Scan Stops Early Because Failure To Merge Various Artists

2011-01-22 Thread cliver

I have the failure to merge various artists error but I can't get my
head a round why.

I have been scanning my music fine for several months since purchasing
SB touch. All was rosy until I decided to re-organise my file
structure. I have a mixture of flac and mp3 and had them all in one
directory aka...
My Music/Library/Artist/Album/Title.flac or mp3
Each album being exclusively flac or mp3.
It was a pain to find the flacs to convert to mp3 if I wanted to put
them on my phone so I decided to split them up aka...
My Music/Library/Flac/Artist/Album/Title.flac
My Music/Library/MP3/Artist/Album/Title.mp3

Since I have done this I get the scan error.

I still have the original structure on the same drive on the same
computer and if I switch SB Serever back to it it still scans fine.

Both scan fine into Winamp btw.

Can anyone please tell me why? I am at a loss (but then, I'm not very
bright :-)

Any ideas greatly appreciated
Regards
Clive

I use Mp3Tag as my tag editor.

Things have progressed slightly (although still confusing)...
I de installed my AV (Mcaffee on a free trial) and scan is successful
now.
No Idea why it didn't effect the original library???
I have re-installed AV and can now scan if I disable RT Scanning and
firewall.
So that part of the problem is kind of solved although not very
satisfactorily.

However I now have a problem where some, not all, of my albums now
apear twice when I brows albums.
When I look at the two they are identical apart from the fact that one
shows the Album Artist and one shows Band/Composer. If I drill down and
look at the tags I see ALBUMARTIST tag in a file in the album that shows
Album Artist and in the other (exact same album) that shows
Bans/Composer I see the BAND tag.

This problem isn't the difference betwee mp3 files and flac files as
some of each have the problem. When I look in Mp3Tag they all look ok.

Any ideas as I'm confused??

I had the same problem after uninstalling AVG and replacing it with
MSE.

THANKS to those who solved what the problem was.

Amen.

AVG does have an uninstaller to get rid of most of the remnants.

OP, if you haven't go here and dl the uninstaller:

Re: [slim] Scan Stops Early Because Failure To Merge Various Artists

2010-11-28 Thread KCJay

Well, back to the drawing board, all.

I uninstalled all of my security software AND turned off Microsoft
firewall. I closed down any non-essential programs and the result:

Same problem. No matter if I cleared the database or just looked for
new music, I got the same error: Music scan merging various artists
terminated unexpectedly.

It can't be any of my security software. Should I go to an earlier
version of the squeezebox software? I'm really puzzled by this.

Current versions of MSE are fully compatible with SBS - thankfully.
