Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??

2008-03-02 Thread SilverRS8

A new idea to solve this?
We have playlists ofcourse where we create different once for each
family member but isn't it a good idea to have Genre playlists/filters?
Meaning the playlis/filterst would only consist of the in/exclusion of
genres not actual tracks. This way you could create a playlist only
including 'child music'. If you have tagged albums with i.e. genre;
'wife' you could easily create playlists including wife and a playlist
excluding wife.

Before browsing by album with the controller you could select such a
playlist (or is a better name; filter?), then only browsing the albums
you would like to see.

One thing I did that was relatively quick and easy was just to create a
playlist containing my wife's CDs.

She can then either navigate to this or use the other playlists, or the
general collection.

I'm not sure whether you have already done this or whether this is what

few albums in mp3 and FLAC and I use this option to only view the best

Erland,

Many thanks for the advice...however I am using the comments tag for
information about the artist/album/piece so would prefer to use custom
scan.

I shall persevere with it.

Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??

2008-02-28 Thread chill

Last night I 'discovered' Erland's excellent Multi Library and Custom
Browse plugins. My SB3 experience has been transformed!

At my wife's request I had included her iTunes library (principally
because she wanted her playlists accessible), but the big downside was
that many of our CDs and tracks were listed twice when browsing - once
as the original FLAC file in the main library, and once as the MP3
created for use on an iPod. Worse still, it took a lot of button
presses to find which version I was looking at.

However, using the Multi Library plugin I was able to include all my
best quality files files in my 'Standard Library' (defined as anything
on my S: drive) and all the iTunes files in their own 'iTunes Library'
(defined as anything on the P: drive).

Using the Custom Browse plugin I was able to set things up so that at
the top level of 'Browse' I see only 'Music Folder', 'Search',
'Standard Library' and 'iTunes Library', and entering either of the
libraries I then get all of the original Browse options.

Much simpler, and my wife and I can each find our own files without
confusion.

I don't think there is a way for a plugin to put menus directly on the
home menu of the SBC but I haven't investigated it in detail.

Yes, it can be done using Player Settings - Menus

Thank you Erland for the excellent plugins.

Cheers,

On the SBC? As opposed to an SB3?

struggling to get Erland's plug in to work!...I think it is just
patience and time to read the FAQ...etc...but this sounds as though it
would work for you and your wife

Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??

2008-02-27 Thread mlsstl

Besides unique tagging, you could also just create a special
sub-directory/folder that only contains her music. She could then
browse directly to just that music folder and see only her CDs. If it
is a small collection as you say, she probably knows what is on each CD
that she wants to hear so won't require the fancier multiple search
options that is important for a larger collection.

However, since her music would also be tagged, it'd show up as easily
available to you when you search for a specific artist, genre, album,
etc.

My daughter's SB only has a subset of my library on it which is defined

this. I'm not sure whether you can add a new menu to the SBC that just

My wife and I use MusicIP Mixer. We set up a filter with her name and
it's the default filter for the Squeezebox. Through it, she doesn't
hear any of my Frank Zappa. Similarly, there is a filter with my name
that's the default for my Softsqueeze player at work, and through it I
don't hear any of her George Michael.

While it doesn't stop either of us from browsing the whole collection,
we generally listen to mixes and it solves that issue perfectly (as
well as making truly outstanding mixes...I LOVE the MusicIP mixer)

If you are talking about the Multi Library plugin I don't think there
is a template for defining a library through a tag scanned with the
Custom Scan plugin. It is still possible to do but you will have to
customize the library definition and edit the the SQL statement.

If you like to define the library by a tag the easiest way is to put
the information in the COMMENT tag because this won't require Custom
Scan and the default library template in Multi Library allows you to
limit a library to a specific value in the COMMENT tag.

If you are talking about the Custom Browse plugin there are some menu
templates that can be limited to a specific custom tag, but I think the
best way to accomplish what you like is by defining the library with the
Multi Library plugin and use Custom Browse menus limited to the defined
library.

With the latest beta version of Multi Library/Custom Browse you should
be able to use the Custom Browse menus also on the SBC. They will be
put inside the main Music Library menu, I don't think there is a way
for a plugin to put menus directly on the home menu of the SBC but I
