(See also my previous post with the attached image)

Maybe I found a little issue: it seems to me that playmode icon is
shown only if the folder has not subfolders. My albums are organized in
folders and some of them may have a subfolders containing the cover
artwork: in this case the playmode icon is not shown in the (parent)
folder containing the audio tracks.

I did not check if I have this issue with the latest beta versions.

Yes, that's the expected behaviour.

A folder is only treated as album if there are no subfolders.
If there are subfolders, the touch-to-{play,add,...} action is disabled
and a context menu will open with the available actions.

One reason for this is that Play other tracks should also work for
folders.
But this does NOT work for folders with subfolders, because
SqueezeCommander could start playing the whole folder, but is not able
to jump to the selected track afterwards...

KPOJ changed it's streaming format, also KPOJ is not making itself

I simply wait for:

- A new version of the Radio with a touch screen like Touch.
- A new version of the Boom with a touch screen like Touch is nice to
have.

Will not buy another Radio of the current series.

I have one Duet, but I'm fine to use Touch for such 'hidden'
appliances. Still nice to have, a new version of a boxed receiver.

My personal wish for Radio:

- Temperature measurement In and Out
- Hygrometer In and Out

No need for a separate weather-station; one display less standing
around.

Charging is fine. Charge new customers by all means (or old customers who want
to add new plug ins) but not for goods already supplied. However, if I
understand this correctly, the intention is to charge retrospectively.

Charging retrospectively for a commodity - any commodity - that was initially
provided in return for good will or an optional donation is at best
exploitative, and seems to me to be actually dishonest. The initial terms of
supply constitute an agreement or contract. Changing them retrospectively is at
the very least to act in bad faith. I’d be surprised if it is not also illegal
in pretty much any legal code one would care to research.

Under EU law it is indeed illegal to disable or otherwise distrain or
deprive one of the enjoyment of goods or services that were supplied
previously under one set of terms - in this case for free -
UNLESS it was made plain in writing at the time of the original supply
that a defined-cost charge or a defined expiry would become effective
at a defined date in the future.

This is to avoid consumers being held to ransom or suckered-in.

However, in this case (software) it only applies to a defined version
of the plugin - the last one freely published prior to the introduction
of a notified charge. So while it is perfectly valid to introduce a
charge for new versions, it cannot legally be applied retrospectively.
The consumer ALWAYS has the right to continue to enjoy the old, free
version or CHOOSE to pay for the new version.

Re: [slim] I don't want to pay for trackstat !

2011-10-19 Thread cunobelinus
Is that what's being offered here, though? If so, then fine. It would be both
legal and entirely reasonable. My impression from the initial post in this
thread, however, was that - to quote its first sentence - trackstat
deactivated itself. This implies that an existing update had been unilaterally
deactivated by the vendor in expectation of payment (although I realise now
that that might imply merely the end of a trial period). If that's not the
case, then clearly I have missed something and misunderstood what all the fuss
is about.

Erland's opening post in his thread about this might be read either way: to
suggest that this will apply only to new installations, or that charges will be
applied retrospectively for existing installations. He said: The plugin/applet
will be required for the people using my other applets or plugins. His use of
using seems to imply strongly that those already using the plug ins will be
affected, whether they like it or not.

That implication is further strengthened in the next part of that sentence:
The purpose is that the full functionality in the applets/plugins will slowly
start to only be available for paying customers .Slowly is then defined as
being rolled out from a few plug ins initially to, perhaps, his full range.
It is possible that this is intended to apply only to new installations, but
that was not my understanding when reading it, and if that is the intention it
is by no means clear.

If it is intended to charge only for new installations, while $20 seems a very
high price for a plug in for an existing application when set against common
pricing paradigms elsewhere, he has every right to ask whatever price he thinks
will give him the best income. It's his work and his time.

If not - well, that's a different matter entirely, as your excellent post makes
very clear, Phil. Some clarification from Erland would be helpful.

Without your server running, your Squeezebox cannot receive any stream
(only the ones provided by mysqueezebox.com and these cannot be
influence by 3rd party Apps).

And if your server is running, it's very likely that it hosts more
music than your iPad.

So I'm afraid I think it's very unlikely that you will see something
like that in an iPad-App.

Right now there are no means to get notified in SqueezePad.

One could observe it indirectly: as long as rescanning is done, the
caching in SqueezePad is turned off (i.e. when you open the artists or
albums list with high probability you will see a progressbar).
As soon as scanning has finished, SqueezePad is caching a final time
and then you will get instant results again in the artists and album
list.

I don't know how it is with your library - but when I'm doing a full
scan then I leave my Squeezeboxes alone for some time anyway - and a
scan for new and changed music is typically pretty fast, so I never
found the need (for myself) to get notified of a finished scan.

Based on the last suggestion from KMorgan one of the next version might
introduce a quick way to open the web-interface of the
Squeezebox-Server. Then one could check there pretty fast as well.

2) do not sync, transcode audio down to 64kbit

When I use SqueezeSlave on my netbook (correct me if I'm wrong and
SqueezePlayer doesn't have /anything/ to do with SqueezeSlave), I solve
this problem by using two different MAC addresses on the command line.
Since the configurations are on the server, the two situations I am in
are treated as two completely different players - and I, as a user,
change configuration with one click.

Obviously, if SqueezePlayer could check all alone (or give me the
option to configure it to) if I'm on wifi or 3G and choose the MAC
consequently, that would be awesome!

Thanks,
Björn

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-10-19 Thread bkruggel

Hello,

I have a somewhat special issue; I use SqueezeCommander at home over
wifi and on the go over 3G and OpenVPN either for my netbook or
SqueezePlayer.
My VPN server (which is also the Squeezebox Server) is configured to be
192.168.10.1 for the VPN network, while the router is configured to send
all traffic from 192.168.10.0 back to 192.168.0.0 (my normal home
network).
Now, the problem is: when I'm out, SqueezeCommander discovers two
Servers: 192.168.10.1 (first) and 192.168.0.50.

Now: I'd like to simply ignore 192.168.10.1, but on Squeezecommander
0.9.6.2.2 the entry 'Ignore Servers' in Expert settings doesn't work. I
tried 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.1:9000, but it won't ignore the
server.
Could you maybe also add an option to delete a server from
SqueezeCommander?

Have you tried to press the more button () right of the server name
and select Ignore Server?

Aaaah that's a button!!! :-)

(On a 320x240 screen with a very big thumb you always have a few UI
surprises left...
It worked perfectly.)

I'm glad that it worked.

Actually, you are the first person ever using this feature (well, at
least the first person that I'm aware of)! :-)

I use it to block my one server internally. I attach to it by dns
internally and externally.

Re: [slim] I don't want to pay for trackstat !

2011-10-19 Thread GeeJay

My plugins worked fine until I upgraded, several weeks after he
introduced License Manager and the new versions of his plug-ins. It was
clear to me that if I upgraded I would have to pay the fee, but as long
as I didn't I could still use the older version.

I've been sending annual donations to Erland for awhile now, at an
amount that is consistent with what he's charging. I obviously believe
it's worth the price.

Re: [slim] clear channel radio station not playing again

In my case because most of my listening at home is in places around the
house that are NOT near the computer (bedroom, porch, living room,
kitchen, etc.). so simply listening in front of the computer would be
 very limiting.

p.s. you could also pick up a TOUCH or RADIO. They can play AAC
natively, no computer for transcoding needed

I would prefer to use my Boom being located in a more central location
in my apartment but i really don't want to run a computer all the time
i want to listen to streaming. I gave up on listening to over the air
radio. I may have to look for the Radio even though i love the sound
quality of the Boom. It looks like Logitech will not update the Boom
since i have read it is no longer being manufactured. It is a real
shame that such a awesome hardware device will be obsolete if streamers
drop their mp3/wma stream. I have only had it around a year. Logitech
just had a 50% promo code and that would have been the perfect time to
buy the Radio. I guess i will have to watch for a black Friday sale. I
just love the sound of the Boom when listening to blues. My Onkyo
receiver has streaming so that might support AAC but i would rather not
have to run that with the external power amp just for listening to talk
radio. It's kind of overkill.

Keep in mind it is the station at fault here, not your SB player. Your
SB player plays all the same formats today that it played the day you
 purchased it (possibly more).

KPOJ changed it's streaming format, also KPOJ is not making itself
available to some of the most popular streaming aggregators out there
further reducing your options (and everyone else's options) to listen
 to their broadcast.

 vTuner = not listed
 Reciva = not listed
TuneIn = present (but in their new AAC format which you cannot use
 absent a computer)
 iHeartRadio = present (Flash/web based)

I know what you mean and i wonder why KPOJ would limit its audience
like that. You think they could collect more advertising revenue with a
larger audience. It's too bad because i listened to them quite a bit. If
that spreads the Boom will be useless unless you want to run a computer.
Maybe it would be a good time to sell my Boom before that happens.
