RE: [ACFUG Discuss] ColdFusion Meetup Group meeting is tonight

2007-11-30 Thread Charlie Arehart
Wow, cool news about the SQL Server user group (atlantamdf.com, for those
not familiar). I've spoken there a couple times the past 2 years. The trek
over to CHOA (off 85 and Druid Hills) was always a bit of a hall, but the
group is really well run with (like us) lots of volunteers, sponsors,
giveaways, and quality content. Really glad to hear that the offices there
may become UG Central. :-)

One last comment, another correction if I may. :-) As for adding a new
presentation, it doesn't even take a minute (let alone a few). Just want to
motivate more to consider it. I just ask for the presentation title and
recording URL. If you want to add more info (description, date, duration),
that's a bonus. But there's no sign-in or registration process, so really
it could be done in 20 seconds. (I handle and prevent folks spamming the
list with my own protections.)

Again, though, thanks for the additional motivation for folks, John.

Great, so I got about 20% of the info right :) Sorry about that.

The meetup group and UGTV are really great resources and I'm happy to
promote them. Even if you miss the meetings, those recordings are there to
view later. I sometimes look at stuff during my lunch break, etc. So thanks
Charlie for organizing them.

Which also reminds me that, if you run across a presentation that would be
nice to share with the CF community. Posting it on Charlie's UGTV
(http://www.carehart.org/ugtv) only takes a few minutes. It's not just for
ColdFusion stuff. There are presentations on there covering Flex, AIR, Sql
Server, etc.

BTW, looks like FusionLink will be hosting a meeting of the local SQL Server
Users group in January (Jan 14th). If things work out well, hopefully we'll
be hosting them full time. I'll post more info on this in the future.

Thanks for the heads up on that, John. I'd like to offer a few
clarifications, though.

First, it's not Sean who is involved but rather Ray, who was originally to
be co-host. Turns out (no surprise) that he's just too busy, so he's stepped
down to being a backup if I ever need one (which I do appreciate).

Also, here's an easier URL for people to remember (and share):
coldfusionmeetup.com (which redirects to that URL you offered.) If you sign
up on the site, you'll receive an email announcing each meeting.

And we do in fact record *all* (not just most) of the meetings are recorded.
Again, no worries. I do appreciate your pointing things out.

I'll say, too, for those curious, that even tough we record the meetings, we
still generally get the same kind of turnout of live bodies as would be at a
typical ACFUG meeting, sometimes 20, sometimes 50.

Finally, thanks also for mentioning the UGTV site. There are now approaching
a couple hundred recordings on all kinds of talks related to CF.

Enjoy, everyone.

As some of you may know there is a worldwide ColdFusion User group that
exists at meetup.com. Charlie Arehart and Sean Corfield run it and they
usually meet weekly. They are having a meeting tonight running over Adobe
Connect, so you can simply view the presentation at home or your office.

Tonight's meeting is on ColdBox 2.5 with Luis Majano

For rsvping and info, simply go to http://coldfusion.meetup.com/17/

Like I mention before everything is done through an Adobe Connect session so
you don't have to drive anywhere for this. Most meetings are also recorded
and can be found on the meetup.com site or via Charlie's UGTV site at
