Re: [Drakelist] Drakelist Digest, Light bulb for inrush currrent protection.
A light bulb is not the way to go as its resistance is very low when cold and goes higher with temperature. That is the reverse of what you want for an inrush current limiter. If you really need to do this you will need the appropriate thermister. 73, Alan - Original Message - From: fjmel...@aol.com To: drakelist@zerobeat.net Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 9:35 AM Subject: Re: [Drakelist] Drakelist Digest,Light bulb for inrush currrent protection. Has anyone heard any additional information about using a light bulb in the AC line ahead of your radios ac input to reduce the inrush current to the rigs as they are turned on. I would like to hear more about doing that if the information is available. It seems there is quit a surge when I turn on the transmitter Drake T4xB. [Drakelist] FS SPR-4
I am selling a Drake SPR-4. It has extra crystals for 3.5-4.0, 14.0-14.5, 21.0-21.5 and 28.5-29.0. The front panel has some small marks and the top cover also has some light marks. Doug Smith <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Speaking of SSB, I plugged a mic into my T-4XC this weekend thinking I might try to check into the Drake Net. First time I've had a mic plugged into that thing in *years*. Anyway, when PTT is pressed I hear a relay click (both on press and subsequently on release) but the rig remains in receive mode and I still hear signals on the band. Then, I noticed that in Tune I get no RF out. I'm a CW guy and I always tune up by pressing the key in CW mode. While fooling around with these oddities I noticed that *sometimes* if I rapidly switched from AM to CW to Tune that tune would work normally. But, only rarely. And never when switching from CW or SSB to Tune. Also, no VOX although I have it setup for CW use where it works fine. Bias is fine, I recently installed an AC4R kit. I also recently replaced the T/R relay (adding the resistor). And, the rig continues to work just fine on CW.. I thought I'd put it on the bench tonight -- anyone have any hints before I dig in? Re: [drakelist] Drake Manual source?
I have used W7FG manuals for many items. I think it is a retirement business and the prices are reasonable. Their phone number is 800 807 6146. It is an easy number to remember for us tube guys. There is usually someone there even on the weekends. 73, Alan - K6RFK - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, December 15, 2007 3:42 PM Subject: [drakelist] Drake Manual source? It has been a while since I had to purchase BA manuals. Since originals are extremely rare I would be looking for high quality reproductions (R-4B, T-4XB,MN-2000). I have found several GOOGLing but difficult to assess the quality, particularly the photographs and schematics. I am hoping the LIST could make some recommendations. Re: [drakelist] An Introduction & a question about keyer for T-4XB
Hello Jeff & the group, Probably the most versitile keyers ever made are the AEA Morsematic series. They have both positive and negative keying output and will key the Drakes without extra circuitry. If you like bugs, the automatic dash repeat can be turned off. The keyers come up on upay from time to time and at hamfests as well. They have a large memory for contest messages and an automatic serial number sequencer as well as many other features that I don't remember. It has been 30 years since I designed the MM-1. 73, Alan - K6RFK - Original Message - From: Jeff Siegel To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 8:06 AM Subject: RE: [drakelist] An Introduction & a question about keyer for T-4XB That's another keyer to look for. [drakelist] Drake C line for sale
Over many years of collecting Drake equipment, I ended up with three complete C lines and think it is time to part with at least one of them. R4-C with noise blanker (NB-4), the three CW filters, 1.5, .5 and .25 KHz. Original paint with an inch long scratch on the top and about a two inch bit of rust on the back bottom lip. Otherwise the paint is very good. Front panel is very clean. About a 0.5 inch bit of rust corresponding to the back bottom cover on the chassis, otherwise very clean. Looks like something was spilled on the bottom lip at the back at one time. Serial in the high 18000 range. No extra crystals. $650 plus shipping. T4X-C. Very good cabinet with original paint and very good front panel. Full output. Serial in low 2. $250 plus shipping. AC-4. Low B+ caps recently changed. Not much else to say about it. $90 plus shipping. MS-4 speaker. Has had a mediocre repaint at some time. Front panel very good. Speaker good. $60 plus shipping. All of the above for $1000 plus shipping if not sold separately first. 73, Alan - K6RFK
