Summary: RenderAccel off needed for Radeon 9250 256MB
   Product: DRI
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: General
AssignedTo: dri-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

xorg-x11-6.8.2-30 on Suse 9.3, radeon driver, club3d Radeon 9250 256MB card,
Samsung Syncmaster 213T (1600x1200 on DVI):
Screen blacked out a few seconds regularly on normal internet browsing and was
somewhat unstable mainly at the top, until I added and disabled the RenderAccel
option in xorg.conf, this solved the problem.

Also, /var/log/Xorg.0.log tells me the card is diagnosed as a Radeon 9200PRO and
the 256MB of the card as 128MB.

(sorry I don't know what to specify under Version and Component above)

The 256 MB cards are currently clipped at 128 MB due to limitations in access to
the upper 128 MB. This problem sounds like it may be related to other DVI
problems on rv280(se) cards. The symptoms seem to be related to bandwidth. DVI
is generally flakey when the 2d or 3d (especially) engines are active. See the
xorg and dri lists for references.

[R300] patches wanted !

2005-08-19 Thread Vladimir Dergachev

Hi all,

As you probably know the code from r300.sf.net got merged into main Mesa
and DRM trees.

This is great, but it looks like everyone thinks they should check in
only the perfect patches. This won't work as few people (if any) can
spend days focused on the same issue.

Me being a prime example - I can spend half hour in the evening on a
problem I know how to solve, but I was not able to do anything more
thorough for at least a few months.

So, it is ok to post the following patches:

   * do you know a place in the driver that is broken, but you
don't know how to fix offhand ? Please, submit a WARN_ONCE
patch that has a WARN_ONCE() statement and a comment explain
 what is broken

   * do you know an application that does not work properly and which
feature is broken ? Please, let us know.

   * Can you get PCI-Express cards to do a tiny bit more (like get
2d working) than they do now - patch is fine.

   * Feel shaky about a patch ? Make it easy to remove it afterwards
and switch it on/off during compile time.

   * Think there is a better implementation of a function ?
Make another version so people can switch from one to another
 and report results.

Well, you get the idea - there is still much fun to be had with this
driver :)

   best

   Vladimir Dergachev

I'm writing this from a screen run on a Radeon X700 Pro,
on pci-e bus, with the xorg packages from Debian unstable.
Are there pci-e cards that do not even work in 2d?

As for 3d, just let me know what register dumps are
needed... Unfortunately I don't have time to dig into
 the driver.

I have compiled Xorg version 6.8.99.900 (6.9.0 RC 0), I was unable to
get it working in 2d. xserver start but standard x11 background is
corrupted with horizontal and vertical black lines, X-cursor is ok.
After few seconds system hangs with no kernel panic according to leds,
no respond on ctrl-alt-1, sysrq and so on (

so I can say xorg server's ati driver doesn't work with my card(

Does the log file say DRI enabled ?

What I meant is to get 2d working using DRI driver (i.e. submitting
commands using CP engine, rather than MMIO registers as happens without
DRM driver loaded).

Someone else would have to answer this - there are a ton of registers and
I don't know which ones are important for PCIe.

Try starting ATI Xserver driver, then quitting X and starting Xorg RC 0.

If this works, this is probably only a matter of initializing a few
registers.

In for a penny in for a pound, (old saying..) i.e. if I could do that I

just don't add PCIE pciids to the drm until I or someone else gets it
working...
