Yes,

not only  Anthropic’s ClaudeBot  but also some (or many)  IA bots are
"collapsing" the repositories system,  we have even noticed  a huge
increase in traffic from Google bots.  Many installations (large and
small, without no discrimination) are experiencing downtimes for these
reasons.

Hi Caty

The latter  means that the item-counter reflects the anonymous´user view

If not, then that may imply that either it's a problem specific to

I can verify though that in the UI, if the "submitter" information is

possible that there's a permissions error here where this information

In my perception the workflow editor should be able to know
who is the submitter of the item because it can be a factor to
accept or reject the submission.

How to reproduce:
-> have two accounts, one system administrator and one normal
account
-> create a collection
-> create the workflow editor group and add both accounts as
workflow editor for a collection
-> submit an item for this collection
-> go to MyDSpace page and click in "Workflow tasks" in both

should be able to see the submitter, in the account that is a
normal account + workflow editor the submitter shows as "N/A".

The endpoint that return the data about the submitter is:
/server/api/workflow/workflowitems/{ID}/submitter, for the
normal account + workflow editor the response body is empty
and the http response is 204.

2023-08-10 Thread emilio lorenzo

Thanks for the responses received.

Your suggestions and checks have already been put into action. Some of
them showed great promise and have already been implemented.

Currently, the repository is exhibiting "normal" response times, except
during episodes of very high traffic. These instances involve certain
robots,  traffic fromTurnitin and other data extractors, along with
significant institutional load.

Under normal circumstances, we are experiencing a manageable load across
the various elements of the  architecture. The backend, frontend, Solr,
and database servers are operating at a medium-low usage level. We have
also established 8 PM2 threads, among other measures.

As we prepare for the anticipated high-activity peaks in September, we
are interested in gathering your insights regarding the most effective
strategies for expanding our architecture. It seems that we might have
reached the limit of vertical growth. Should we contemplate the addition
of a second frontend server? Would this prove beneficial during
instances of extremely heavy load? Any guidance or tips you could
provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

'd also recommend that anyone using DSpace 7.5 consider enabling the
new "caching of server-side rendered pages" feature for anonymous users:

https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Performance+Tuning+DSpace#PerformanceTuningDSpace-Turnon(orincrease)cachingofServer-SideRenderedpages

Simply put, one of the areas where a site can see slowness (especially
to the homepage) is during "server-side rendering". Each time a user
visits your site, the *first* page they receive is flat HTML (which is
dynamically built via server-side rendering).  This is a feature of
Angular which tries to speed up the initial page by sending immediate
HTML while the Javascript app is still downloading... once the
Javascript app finishes, it replaces the flat HTML and allows you to
interact with the page.

However, on very complex pages or pages with a lot of content (like
the homepage) , the server-side rendering can take time/resources to
generate that flat HTML *on demand*.   That's why we've added the
caching feature to cache these flat HTML pages for anonymous
usersit ensures that the server-side rendering runs *less
frequently*, and the same flat HTML page can be cached & returned for
many anonymous users.  That said, this caching is *disabled by default
*at this time.

We've enabled this caching on https://demo7.dspace.org/ to allow the
homepage to load more rapidly.

Take a look at the docs here for more information:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/User+Interface+Configuration#UserInterfaceConfiguration-CacheSettings-ServerSideRendering(SSR)

misma. El Proceso sería a grandes rasgos el siguiente:

 1. Siguiendo la guía de instalación
(https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Installing+DSpace),

Re: [dspace-tech] Filter media running for 4 days is it normal process?

2022-11-08 Thread emilio lorenzo

At least in versions 5 & 6 the command -i works flawlessly

example:

dspace filter-media -f -i x/1685 -p "ImageMagick Image
Thumbnail","ImageMagick PDF Thumbnail"

being x/1685  a top level community or a collection or any handle

We haven´t tested yet in Version7.

Best luck

Based on my reading of the "filter-media" code, I think the "-i" flag

'bin/dspace filter-media -h' shows that it can be run on individual
items, but I see no option to process a single community or
collection.

You could make lists of item IDs in each collection and create
scripts for 'bin/dspace read':

filter-media -i 12345/1
filter-media -i 12345/2
...

This should be faster than running each item separately.

Re: [dspace-tech] OAI-PMH increase records list limit

2022-03-23 Thread emilio lorenzo

Hi Peter,

without going into the discussion of increase or decrease the limit,
you will find in    config/crosswalk/oai/xoai.xml   a line as:

Configuration indented="false" maxListIdentifiersSize="100"
maxListRecordsSize="100"

+   maxListSetsSize="100" stylesheet="static/style.xsl"

That 100 is the package size.

You will probably have to recreate the OAI index after the change  to
get rid of old tokens ..

The subscription dates are specified in the invoice that the CNRI send

Re: [dspace-tech] OAI - re-indexing issue

2021-05-27 Thread emilio lorenzo

See

Regarding the "second" issue, you are right, reindexing will probably
stop when reaching the first item without handle.  You'd better fix that
with the indications in
http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/OAI-Harvesting-issue-in-DSpace-6-2-td4688353.html

following UTF-8 support that where not there before and restarted tomcat:

See img1 (JAVA OPTS adding Dfile.ecoding=UTF-8)
See img2 (added URIEncoding to connector and you can see the
java/tomcat version etc)

I have restarted tomcat but have not re-built the OAI index which is
recommanded.

Here is my question, in our repo, I have found some items without
handle (these are non-active, non submitted items that users have
generated and are sometimes non submitted versions of the original
submitted version). I am not very confident running the OAI import
command because of these items without handle. How can I safely
re-build the OAI index? Is it safe to re-index even with these items
existing?

Is it also possible that some of these problematic items won't be
resolved by re-indexing? I am thinking because these items where
encoded in a different manner (prior to my change above) some of the
chars might have become invalid now and the re-index wont be able to
revert them back...I was brief but I think you see my point ;) Would
this be a legitimate use case?

Thanks your suggestions.

Re: [dspace-tech] Question about specifying asset store when uploading bitstreams, and relationship between "bundles" and asset stores

2021-05-19 Thread emilio lorenzo

Hi,  Kerry

I think the drop down menu  (original, license, thumbnails, and ...
DARK, for example) relates to the  "logical" classification of
bitstreams in an item, but is is not related in any way to the physical
distribution of the  bitstreams into the assetstore. There is no way to
relate bundles to physical location without further changes to the data
layer.

Re: [dspace-tech] ORCID Authorities: Updating author profiles to their ORCID equivalents

2020-03-03 Thread emilio lorenzo

hi Sean

first guess is that the two entries ("the browse index then lists the
author's name twice")  belongs to entries with different confidence
levels  (200 vs 500 or so...) . The Index separates entries if
confidence values are not the same (there are substantial difference
between values)  if one of  them do not reach enough  "confidence"

Second guess (I prefer this)...   the authors in you current index has a
given "internal" authority key and Orcid validated authors enters into
the repository with "orcid id" as the key.. So, different keys,
different entries

Some time ago we developed for EUI´s Cadmus repository a method for
_joining _entries belonging to different validation sources.  There was
a communication to OR2019 explaining this.

Is there a way to link existing authors with their ORCID equivalents?

In a DSpace 6.3 repository, using Mirage2 xmlui with several thousand
authors, we are considering enabling ORCID authority control, but
won't this lead to the creation of duplicate authors?

I have an author with 31 publications on the repository, but when I
create a new submission and lookup the author's name, I can find it on
ORCID, but it says 'items in this repository: 0'.

If I use the ORCID id to submit the item, the browse index then lists
the author's name twice, once with 31 publications, and once with 1
publication.

Even if I rebuild the discovery index: dspace index-discovery -fb, the
two apparently identical author's names continue to be listed separately.

If I submit a new item using the name from the ORCID index, a
subsequent search looking up that author's name still finds the name
in the ORCID index (italicised) with 'items in this repository: 0',
but now there is also a non-italicised name with a link to view items.
Following that link takes me to the recently deposited item, but no
others. So it looks like I've now got three versions of the author:
the original, the ORCID id, and the newly created one.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but surely this can't be right.

Re: [dspace-tech] Migration

2019-08-21 Thread emilio lorenzo
As Tim says, Sword  is the better option, but you need some knowledge, a
little customisation, AND access to both OJS and Dspace systems...

But if  you can not install the SWORD plugin in OJS and activate the
Swrod protocol in Dspace, we use, for a project long time ago, the  OJS
functionality "export to XML" This plugin is always installed in OJS...
A full journal (or selected volumes)  can be exported to XML
(including the PDf themselves, in binary form, useless)

Then,  we write some transformations  to SIP format,  AND made some wget
or curl to the actual PDFs...  The process is a bit cumbersome, but it
is able to keep all the metadata info and retrieve the files...  After
all, the SIPs are ingested into Dspace..

Best luck

Emilio

Hello,

I believe OJS supports the SWORD protocol (http://swordapp.org/). I
also see some references to a SWORD plugin for OJS here:

link to a SWORD plugin for OJS v3).

So, assuming you can get the SWORD OJS plugin working you should be
able to submit Items *from* OJS *via* SWORD *into* DSpace, as DSpace
has a SWORD server:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/SWORDv1+Server

All that said, I don't have experience with either OJS or its SWORD
plugin, so I cannot give you step by step instructions. You may want
to post over on the OJS support list/forum to see if anyone else has
done this before -- I've found one person asked this same question a
few years ago: https://forum.pkp.sfu.ca/t/sword-plugin-ojs-dspace/35858

Good luck. If you have further DSpace specific questions, feel free to

Hi

In XMLUI exists the functionality of importing items via online services
as Crossref https://wiki.duraspace.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=68064788

You can provide a DOI in the first step of submissions and the metadata
is retrieved from Crossref.  Similar services with pubmed or other
online services...

*UI compatibility*

The new step is available *only for JSP UI*. Nonetheless, if you run
both UIs and want the JSP UI benefit of the new step you can configure
it as processing class also for XML as it degrades gracefully to the
standard SelectCollectionStep logic

Am I right in concluding that this functionality is only available for
JSPUI? If so, is there anything similar for the XMLUI?

Re: [dspace-tech] Community/collection introductory text language

Hello Peter and András

This correspond to  Jira ticket DS-1134 Multilingual metadata for
communities/collections.  It was closed when Dspace 5 included metadata
for collections and communities, but as Claudia points out,  there is no
code avalilable.

We have code  for Dspace 5 XMLUI (https://runa.sergas.gal, and some
others repos) but since there are no general avaliability for testing
and approving commits for old versions, except errors or security issues
(everybody  is focused on V7)  we decided not to publish it.

Let me know if the version is suitable for you and we provide you with a
patch...

Hi Monika

we are using Oracle 12 in a couple of installations:

We have not identified issues related to oracle version 12 versus 11

[dspace-tech] Federated authentication with AZURE AD

Hi all

Is there any experience using the Federated authentication with AZURE

hence we could use |shibboleth| authentication plug-in ??

we would like to evaluate some implementation aspects.

Thanks in advance

Re: [dspace-tech] Issue with Geolocation

Hi Sean,

Only the country code?  or also the city code?
are the IP addresses recorded in raw SOLR records? Perhaps an Apache
or NGINX  or other proxy server is not forwarding headers to Dspace.
There is some configuration parameters to deal with tis aspect
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Configuration+Reference

And of course there are limits to resolve local IP addresses (intranet)

Hi

Perhaps you could recycle some of the code we developed for the Open

Oh, and, with just "normal" peer review, has anyone figured out a way

Re: [dspace-tech] check pdf files

2017-07-05 Thread emilio lorenzo

Hi Fernanda,

I suppose you are referring to PDF-A1,2 and 3 vs PDF. The checking is
difficult due to the ISO-standard complexity as explained in
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A

Nevertheless, probably the best option to access files in the
assetstore (an object contains multiple files as you have discovered)
is using the java methods in Dspace (a good starting point would be the
curation task called Bitstream Format Profiler) or using specific
database queries (there are similar questions in Dspace-teh regarding
this identification and access.

After that access, you will need a validator to test the compliance
(see
https://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/questions/18161/is-there-free-or-open-source-software-for-checking-pdf-a-compliance)

Re: [dspace-tech] Poor indexing performance after upgrading from DSpace 4.x to DSpace 6.0

Hi

we experienced the same indexing slowness with a recent upgrade. Take
into account this is the only complete indexing, next ones will be index
updates.

Nevertheless intially the performace was worse (Oracle database) due to
some database indexes missed ( https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-3378)

3 hours for 2 items seems to me fine,.. After correcting the
database indexes, we measured aproximately the same performace...

Hi~ We are users of DSpace 4.x for two years, and recently we need to
migrate our server. After rsync the files and restore of the database
to new server, we followed the procedure in the guide to upgrade the
DSpace to 6.0. However, the indexing performance was terrible. It took
nearly 3 hours for indexing 20,000 records! I spent hours for tuning
the tomcat (allocate 5GB ram to both tomcat and JAVA command line,
increase memory for PostgreSQL, searching for best GC settings, change
merge factor in Solr, etc.) The performance did slightly improve, but
it was still quite far from what we had in DSpace 4.x.

Finally, we decided to upgrade to an older version DSpace 5.6. We
rsync the 4.x version from the old server to new server again and
upgraded to 5.6. We followed the same procedure without changing the
tomcat settings. The indexing performance is great as DSpace 4.x,
within 30mins, 53xxx records have been indexed.

Since the hardware config and the tomcat settings are the same, I
guess there are obviously some problems with DSpace 6.0, or the
upgrade process from 4.x to 6.0. Hope this can help DSpace 6.0 to be
better.

hello,

I copy an answer Helix gaves me some time ago, regarding the authory

it doesn't seem to be documented and there's no short-hand command as
for the statistics index, but the authority index export works just
fine:

/dspace/bin/dspace dsrun org.dspace.util.SolrImportExport -a export
--index-name authority

You can see the newly added CLI parameters in this PR:

I didn't test import, but I'd expect it to work, too.

So, i would suppose a) it is not documented, b) it is not include in
the dspace CLI launcher

c) the dsrun org.dspace.util.SolrImportExport is used to export,*clear
*and*import *Solr indexes.

with the following parameters
private static final String ACTION_OPTION = "a";

private static final String DIRECTORY_OPTION = "d";
 private static final String HELP_OPTION = "h";
private static final String INDEX_NAME_OPTION = "i";

Re: [dspace-tech] Suggestion for Adding module in DSPACE release 6

2016-03-29 Thread emilio lorenzo

Hi Ahmed,

that can be acomplished with existing DSpace functionalities and some
coding

I would use this approach

1. permissions, permissions and permissions... you have to avoid direct
   url access to the items.
2. the usual SOLR queries system (searching and browsing) is
intercepted to exclude results if the user is not logged Some
   coding here...
3. probably you will need to exclude some results from the OAI
   interface, also...or deactivate the OAI...
4. A un-indexing from google and other searchers probably would be
   interesting, also

an example
http://roa.universidadeuropea.es/dspace 3.1, has apparently 0 items
for non-logged users, but of course the repository is being used since
2014...

best regards
Emilio

p.d . important to notice, since DSpace is an Open Access repository,
any action to restrict access is more complicated than usual...
